- Back in the basement today to take a look at not only a great all around power bar, but one that's made in the USA! I've been digging the high quality plates from the Strength Co and their barbell does not disappoint. Let's take a closer look.

loved the digs at pulling sumo haha! Sounds like a great bar, and I'm not surprised, after seeing how nice the Strength Co plates are
just jokes :)
“I’ve had my share of passive shafts in my hand” is basically a brilliant troll line
Shaft don’t lie.
Plural?
Speak what you know.
You’re the man Brandon. I’m always glad when you post another review!
Thanks Wesley
Great video! Still the king of the home gym!
Your sarcasm is not lost on me pal!
Idk if it's just the lighting in the main talking head shot, but that bright zinc looks a ton like chrome to me. (Which always reminds me of this cheap, decorative chrome curl bar I had...never again.)
And I was about to get mad about not mentioning American Barbell bars, but those are a bit more expensive than I realized. But everyone always sleeps on AB!!
AB has some great construction bars, but their higher price point and milder knurl hasn't done it for me.
Here from IG after asking the question about it thank you for all the reviews!
No problem, let me know if you have any more.
Awesome review.. bright zinc is perfect for the power bar (EliteFTS Power Bar is also bright zinc). The wear tear is minimal and less maintenance. A wishlist has been added to the list. Again great review 👍
I have the elitefts powerbar. It's great, the knurl is a cheese grater.
@@000elemental000 very true.. I believe that the EliteFTS Power Bar has the most aggressive knurl
I need to grab one, just wish it was 29mm.
i think im addicted to unpackaging bars. nothing like your first rub on a brand new shaft.
you're speaking my language
I’m feeling the urge to go to this bar
I'm surprised you all don't have one TBH
@@BasementBrandon Buddy Capps may not like it!
Are we still waiting for the “Campbell bar”. Any updates on that?
hmmm... he should tell us his spec.
He mentioned on a previous video he hopes to update us soon! I’m stoked to hear what he decided to go with concerning design, materials, knurl, plating, etc. :)
Will do a video soon.
Great Review as always, Brandon. I'm tempted at that discount rate. Like others mentioned...wondering where your PB stands in terms of timelines? Cool Thumbnail, btw.
We only offer a discount for this bar... for Brandon. Only him.
@@thestrengthco I figured as much and it’s a good deal! Enticing.
people won't know you're joking lol.
Hey Marcus! I have a sample for knurl in now, need to get back to them. It's been a super slow process. I'm just consulting on this one, but I think it will be a good bar.
I don't know how easy they'd be to get hold of but would be good to get your feedback on some UK/European bars. If we exclude Eleiko and some other expensive options, I think ATX probably leads the way as far as power bars. They recently released the ATX Comp Power Ram Bar 2.0 (29mm, black oxide, volcano knurling) which I just got - very grippy knurling. They also have the Comp Power bar in electroless nickel (29mm, 230k psi). Re specialty bars, Cerberus Strength have an interesting SSB with the EliteFTS style pad but 2.4m long and 225k psi.
Been trying to get one from them but no dice.
What was that inflection on the, 'Stay big?' Are you okay Brandon? Sounded like you were being held against your will, did Strength Co kidnap you?
I was going to tell everyone to petition Strength Co to extend the code to their plates as well, but didn't like how it turned out.
Big B, u had a C class before the truck? How did u like it? My subaru is on the way out. I need another AWD. I saw a 2014 C300 for a good price
Hey David! Yes I had a 2011 one for a few years before going Audi and now Truck. It was a great little car. Key word being little. I upgraded to the audi (a6) b/c it was bigger and I was driving about an hour to and from the office each day and my legs were cramped. Back seat room was also pretty bad. Still loved the car though!
Curious if you've used the Strength Co Dumbbells and their small collars? I have adjustable ones that go up to 95 and just need one with collars to get to 140+ for one arm bent over rows, find I can't cheat as much that way.
I have them, but tbh am not a fan of loadable dbs.
I like them for one arm bent over rows as I can go heavier and don't cheat. What's your favorite heavy row assume you just use heavy barbell?@@BasementBrandon
You are my fave health/home gym reviewer. I want a combo Pulldown/Row attachment that can also do landmine exercises. What do you think of the Kelva Atlas I checked and you hadn't reviewed it curious if you heard from those you respect if its worth the premium price? I want few but GOOD pieces.@@BasementBrandon
@@chrisdonnell2575 I like Pendlay rows a lot for barbell work. For DB work my favorite was always incline db rows (laying on your chest). But haven't done those much since going to a home gym.
I have it, it's great! I don't use it a ton for landmine stuff since I have a cable system, but it's a nice thing to have. You may also want to check out the Shorty and Longy bar by Darko lifting (I think I have videos on one or both). Same general premise but you can use your own handles to mix it up.
Even with the shorter center knurl it looks like the smooth part is shorter than normal (the knurling seems to extend more towards the center).
Which power bars have a 6” center knurl? The longest I’ve seen is 5”
Knurling lines up with the OPB and TPB, maybe just an optical illusion. The LXJ power bar has a really big center knurl.
Does the knurling feel sharp? I had a bare steel OPB that I had to sell because it felt like knives in the hand
This will be similar in feel
If you had the option of buying any of the 3 which one would you buy as your main power lifting bar? I want a stainless steel bar for the feel, but if this bar has a similar feel for way less, I would just buy strength co.
It depends what's more important to you and what your preference for knurl is. TSC bar is great, but if I could only pick one I'd go SS OPB. Knurl isn't as gritty feeling, but it's super grippy and I like the corrosion resistance stainless offers. Note that it'll cost you around $100 more at least.
So you’re saying if I have The StrengthCo plates I need this bar?
we didn't say that...
Well since Grant is offering a discount working with Brandon we better jump on it before he changes his mind. We know how he feels about discounts lol 😂
Convince him to do a discount on the plates :)
Bro you know I have tried! He ain’t having it lol

Hi Brandon, what is your take on the Fray fitness barbell with (the first I’ve heard) a ceramic?? Coating please? Whats that about? Is ceramic durable? I am seeing this pop up from Fray IG and im curious if this is a legit coating or is it just a “gimmick.” I know youre busy with summer, family and new-ish home so no rush, just curious on your thoughts. Or you can do a video if youre low on ideas haha. ☺️
I've found they're similar to other ceramic/cerakote coatings. Nice colors and options but tends to dull feel quite a bit.
Being a former Marine and Strength Co plate customer, I bought this bar without hesitation. I prefer it over the Ohio Power Bar.
Thanks for your order Aaron!
appreciate the feedback!
So just for clarity, as I'm down to choosing this or a 20kg SS OPB for a stiff deadlifting barbell with longer loadable sleeve length as I only have bumpers (16.5 and 16.8" respectively), is the knurling here grippier than a SS/bare steel OPB, or, grippier than a black zinc OPB / 20kg OPB? Also, do we know the F scale for this bar in comparison to Rogue SS (F2) or zinc/bare steel bars (F8-R)? Will it be as durable over decades of repeated, slamming deadlifts? Seems like more than just Rogue are using F scale now as an industry guidelines for bar durability/longevity over years of use.
Rogue is the only one who uses that rating currently I believe. The OPB in bare or SS will give you a better grippy feel since it's not coated. If want, shoot me an email (it's in the description) and I'll send you close ups of both knurls. The OPB in 20kg will be stiffer b/c the plates end up being about an inch closer together due to the thin collars.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks for that! Exactly what I was looking for. On F scale, I thought the same thing re Rogue. But, somehow, on Coop's website under the article, "The Best Powerlifting Barbell for 2021" he has F-scale values for Texas PB, Kabuki NGPB, AB Mammoth, BoS PB 2.0 and Cap thingy. I sent a note to Strength Co to see if they had a value for the Corps bar. Maybe they (GGR) went to the manufacturer's directly to get it. It's not that most of us will ever reach the design life of a power bar.. I just like the nostalgic idea of handing it down to kids and grandkids and still having lots of life left into it.
@@ExpeditionaryRanger Those companies still don't use it to my knowledge. He likely just used Rogue's F scale calculator and input their specs to spit out the result.
Do you think their package buy of 330lbs of plates and a power bar for $1,000 is a good deal?
I think you end up saving like $50 if you buy as a package. So not a great deal, but if you like that bar (the 28.5mm) and the plates, it's better than paying $50 more.
Would you recommend this over the Rogue Ohio Power Bar??
It depends. Head to head, no. But if you're looking for a quality power bar that won't break the bank and don't want to go Rogue, then this is a good option.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks!
How does it compare to the lu xiaojun m1 power bar
Commenting so I get notification lol. Yes I am very curious about this as well. If it beats the OPB then it has to be close to the Luxiaojun mastery bar. But knowing Brandon he probably prefers the longer center knurl on the Lu.
Both very good bars. The LXJ bar I have is sharper, has a bigger center knurl, thin comp collars, and a stainless shaft. It will also run you about $100 more. You have to ask yourself if those features/price are worth it to you.
YEP!
lol
Good review.. probably not for me as I would not want something with more aggressive knurl. TPB is my baseline for knurl.
That's fair! I'd say this is on par with the TPB
"And that should be karma for pulling sumo". You're very quotable, that maybe one of your best...at least top ten
lol
Get a sumo deadlift bar from Strongarmsport and you'll beat karma.
Lol
Big B Dogg
Still just a small boi
He said "passive shaft"!
;)
Coops gonna be like BABE I GOTTA BUY ANOTHER BAR
He's going to have to move again.
@@BasementBrandon For the 10th time
Are the sleeves ribbed for my pleasure, or smooth?
Ribbed!
"Bright zinc looks very well"
i speak english gud.
I’m back for the algorithm, been a minute unfortunately
This summer has been super busy for me personally, so it's been tough to get stuff out :(
$325 is a little steep. Boneyard bars are 225.
The boneyard bars in that finish are normally $295. Not apples to apples if you’re comparing blem bars to fully warrantied unblemished ones IMO
Bar made in Minnesota? But, Strength Co. outa California? Sup?
they don't have the machinery on site.
Karma for pulling sumo. Nice.
:)
Lame
yeah?
Another solid review from my favorite cellar dweller...as tempting as this price and specs are, I think I need to hold out for your power bar first! Hope that is out in time for Christmas? 🤷♂️
Doubtful! Just consulting on it, have the sample of knurl back now, need to do a video.
Talking about shafts
Speak what you know!
Nice Review! Let me see if I can make space for another Barbell 🤣😂💪🏼💪🏼
Haha
Please tell me this thing has smooth sleeves, I’ve been having trouble finding a high end 29mm power bar with smooth sleeves. Ripped is most displeasurable.
Ribbed.
Would you prefer this over the REP Deep knurl SS powerbar EX? Your response will help me choose what to get. Lol Thanks
Depends. Both are solid. Normally I'd prob say StrengthCo due to pricing difference but the REP bar is on sale this weekend for really cheap and is a solid bar.
Nice specs and good price for Made in USA with that coating. I guess I’m spoiled with Cerakote and SS bars to where I’d rather spend a bit more for a Barbell that will last several decades.
I hear ya!
How'd you get trolley arms in white from rogue? They offered no customizations when I sent an email. Are you going to do a review on them as well?
They said they weren't for me for awhile, then one day I asked again and they said they could.
on their site it's says they are in Cali not MN. is that true? Asking because I live in MN and could possibly do a pick up.
StrengthCo is based in Cali, but they do not make their equipment there.
Made in USA! Yes! Made in Minnesota...even better!
woo
Hes had his share of passive shafts in his hands.
;)
Brando I like your custom j cups
Thanks!
Wish it had thin competition collars
TBH I find that kind of a nuisance for training.
Your J-cups are SICK !!!!
appreciate it
Awesome! Now we just need them to give you a discount code for their plates!
agreed lol
Grant's talked about it, it's not economically feasible
Great informations
Thanks for taking a look!
I’m considering getting this, though I have several power bars already. I have several of the Strength Co. magnetic micro-plate storage pegs attached to my Rogue vertical plate trees and they work great!
glad you like them!
Def a solid option.
what kind of bars do you own?
This is why I love the garage gym or home gym content. I learn something new daily!!
Thanks for stopping in!
