- Hey Everyone! Today I have a highly requested video to share with you. I have 5 perfumes that in my opinion are over hyped, under hyped and worth the hype. As always, this is just my opinion and I mean no offense or disrespect to anyone so please do not take it that way.

You do not need to apologize for saying what you think...perfumes are such a personal matter! Different people, different noses, different taste, different skin....it 's as simple as that! I agree with almost all the perfumes you mentioned! You should try Nectar, i feel the same about Flowerbomb, but the flanker is great! 😊

I had a similar experience with Baccarat Rouge 540 - I ordered a sample because it was SO hyped, and when I got it - I did like it, but it did not blow my mind the way I expected it to based on all the crazy hype. Same thing happened with Delina from Parfums de Marly. And I did love Oud Bouquet as a scent but on myself, even Shaghaf oud - I can't do it. :/
Yesssss!!!! for Calvin Klein escape.... It has been my signature summer scent for five years now and I’m glad it’s not hyped up , all the better for true lovers of the fragrance. Lol it might sound a little selfish but because I love in Florida, I’m happy to let others stick with light blue and Aqua di gio.... I’ll stick with escape.

The first I wore My Burberry, I was in church and saying to myself, “ooo I smell so good”, you are so right.

Sunny, I also loved Escape when it first came out. I bought a bottle a couple of years ago and it didn’t seem to smell the same. I wore it and used it up but was disappointed. Is it just me or is it different now?

I think Black Opium FLORAL SHOCK is the one that should be getting all the hype. I love it so much. It gets so many compliments.

I love this video. I had Chloe given to me when it was first released. I never wore it because I found it too boring at the time. I gave it to charity. I wish I had it now lol. I remember the silver band tarnishing, too. I love Manifesto, too! So complex and warm. I agree with your underrated list.
Blind bought CK Escape this year and have to say it is one of my faves. Up there with my coveted Chanels. Hooray for recognizing it!!!

That’s so weird about L’Imperatrice. I wear it and get compliments and feel fresh and lively all day. I wonder what it could be that it smells that way on you? The rhubarb smells crisp and delicious on my skin.
I’m not sure but something definitely doesn’t work with my chemistry. It smells so good in the bottle. I would love to smell it on someone else!! 🥰
I love rhubarb pie, but I'm sure rhubarb on my skin would just turn sour and rank...
Black Opium is definitely overhyped and I didn’t like the pink pepper in it especially combined with the coffee and extra sweetness. My husband also didn’t like it and said it bothered his sinuses, he doesn’t say that about the original opium.
I don't get the pink pepper in cold weather.infact I'm using mine up now... because when it's warmer that pepper will drive me mad...will never repurchase
Mehwish Owais it’s in the initial opening and enough for me to not want it. I gave mine to my mom. A dupe for Black Opium which smells identical in the opening is black musk from the body shop. I tried them side by side. Actually gave both of them to my mom. The black musk was a little more tolerable for me but it was also the body mist.
I HATE Black Opium. I was thinking I was the only one who didn’t appreciate this!
I so agree about oud bouquet!! It reminded me of youth dew on me. I was shocked! Getting a sample of manifesto! Omg I love classic escape! I recently repurchased it! And love the elie saab! I think our tastes are very similar! Loved this sweet Sarah!

I tried oud bouquet (old formulation) in a store. Didn't liked it much then. When I got home opened my bag and... Ahhh it was filled with a very beautiful sweet rose scent ♥️♥️ now I am determined to buy it soon!

Great video and you shouldn’t apologize everyone has a right to their opinion, and you are so sweet ! Love your fragrance videos😊 there are a lot of fragrances I hate straight out of the bottle but something magic happens on my skin when I spray them on me and I end up loving them.

I used to love Escape. I bought a bottle when it came out ages ago and I also went thru several bottles. I didn’t purchase any for several years and they reformulated it. I was so disappointed when I purchased a bottle in 2015 or 2016. I still went thru the whole bottle but to my nose it wasn’t as good as the original. I wish perfume houses would stop doing that! I’ve been on a rant about that lately. LOL Enjoyed the video Sarah. My hubs purchased a gift certificate for my birthday from FragranceNet so I’m binge watching your videos! I so appreciate all the info you share about perfumes. I wouldn’t know about so many if it wasn’t for you!❤️🌻❤️😉

It's funny. For YEARS I've worn L'Imperatrice. I love it. But never once have I gotten a compliment while wearing it (either in DC or Florida). I often wondered if I wasn't wearing enough of it (I tend to go light) or maybe if MY olfactory preferences were actually not nice. Then EVERYONE started talking about it. I like my scents a secret. Chloe is another perfume that mystifies me. Chloe has been around and in it's original form for YEARS and no one talks about it. I can smell it in a crowd, and often do, which is why I've never really worn it. But it really is one of the prettiest rose scents and it's rarely mentioned.
Hej Sarah you are 100% right in your selection today completely agree, especially on the Emperatrice 3 D&G, I bought it because of the hype and in my ph it smells like beers, alcohol, jajajaja said my husband anyway.....so I still have it stuck in my collection, it never occurred to me to sell it out, so I will try, thank god anyway it´s just the 50 ml bottle!! OMG Sarah I so agree with you on every single overhyped perfume you have mentioned (except for L'impératrice which did not smell awful on me but still was meh). I heard stellar reviews about the others and then upon trying them on was very disappointed!
One that I feel is overhyped is Kilian Back To Black. On me it goes straight honey and not in a good way. It was absolutely awful on me.
Elie Saab Girl Of Now is one of my absolute favorites. I love the Maison Marguiela Replica fragrances. I am with you on By The Fireplace. I also love , Music Festival, Jazz Club and Lipstick On. So good!!! When you mentioned Calvin Klein Escape it took me back, my nostalgic Calvin Klein fragrance I s Eternity. I will never stop loving it.
I use the the same My Burberry and this fragrance stays with me like forever. It’s warm, musky, floral and powdery and just love it. Elie Saab gives me headache. I smelled Alien and I felt like the smell was very common. Nothing great. Currently I’m in love with Chanel eau tendre edp, issey miyake leau, and Tom Ford portofino !
L'imperatrice smells like grapefruit and honey on me. When I wear it my 6 year old constantly sniffs me. I get numerous compliments. Chloé is a love 💘 I want to try the Alaia perfumes.
Sarah, I also love Chloe;enough to buy the body cream. The body cream is just as pretty as the perfume and makes a nice underlayer and is scented enough to wear alone. It’s good with any Chloe flaker perfume as well.

Flowerbomb is an enigma for me... no one could smell it from me, and so couldn’t I, no matter how much I applied. And if I applied too much, it gave me a headache even though I couldn’t smell it, that’s just evil thing to do to me 😂 so I gave it away 🤷🏻♀️ I want to try Flowerbomb nectar if it will be better, I have a feeling that it will 🤞
Black opium really lasts on my skin and the coffee note is pronounced on my skin too, l love it

Yessss i agree with you with the ck escape, it smells like nothing else in the world, really special smelling, and i have one. I smelled it the first time when i was in intermediate school like more than 20 years ago, i loved it, still loving it now

I agree with you on the Black Opium. I bought a big bottle of it and now I regret it because it's just an ok perfume. I just bought a bottle of YSL Manifesto L'Elixir and it's the best perfume I've tried recently. It's amazing I love it.
I completely agree with you about flowerbomb. It just sort of smelled.... ordinary on me. I had such high expectations.
Love that you have included Chloe, it is my signature, but I feel a lot of people hate it, no idea why. Good for me, because not many people will smell like me ;) ...I did buy Alaia Blanche and is totaly my favorite purchase of this year.

Agree With Flowerbomb, as well 😊 ITS so headacing and to strong to my nose. Everybody wears it in Denmark.. its Like the City's signiture scent. Agree With OUD bouquet to, and Feve Delisious.. Nice enough, but it doesn t make me fall in love at all..

Nice to see a video with a difference of opinion on some hyped fragrances.. Personaly ,Club De Nuit was a let down for me (same as CDNIM its aweful) as I can't shake the metalic/iron vibe it has going on, even though its very similar to Noir De Noir, its just not as polished and nowhere near the quality and frankly just made me want Noir de Noir more, so I ended up giving it to my GF. Thanks for sharing :)
I know there are a lot of new young ladies out there looking for advice on what’s on the Sephora shelves. I want an old or new fragrance that’s worth it all and not every single person is wearing it because it’s advertised to Death

I agree with you on manifesto that it's underrated. I actually bought a rollerball bc of your thoughts on it. And I love it. Also love escape from cabin Klein. One of my favs
I wear Escape alot. My brother gave it to me for Christmas last year. The other CK's I hate. Eternity stinks like bunch of cedar wood
My co-worker wear CK Escape and she gets so many compliments! I personally do not like it ,but it definitely is a compliment getter.
All these years later prob been wearing escape foe about 20 years and I still get stopped when I’m out n asked what I’m wearing. I love it so bold n sexy

Some of these must definitely be affected by the weather, skin temperature and personal chemistry. I completely agree with Flowerbomb and Black Opium. I have L'imperatrice and like it ok, but yes, think it's a hot weather scent. I'm mixed on Oud Bouquet as I think I do like it, but I need to test it some more. As others have said Carolina Herrera Good Girl needed to be part of this overhyped list...lol I only have a dupe fragrance oil of Feve Delicieuse but it just smells like the most buttery, gourmand vanilla and as its missing something, seems like it could be used for layering. Chloe is amaaazing to wear in the warmer seasons. It's annoying but you can totally shine up the bottle with using some toothpaste as it can be used for silver. I also wore the heck out of Girl of Now last winter and the best thing is you only need a very small amount as it's so strong and lasts long. ❤
I really love Oud bouquet (I have the new formulation), but I also love Shaghaf oud and Jo Malone Velvet rose & oud.
Oud bouquet really works on my skin and my clothes, I love the sillage, the dry down but I totally understand that it doesn't work for everybody. (Sometimes I even spray it on a paper that I let close ti my bed 😆)
For me, for example, Spiritueuse double vanille doesn't work at all. Like on my skin it smells like gasoline, it's awful 😫
Same thing with Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka, I heard so much about this one I sprayed it on my skin to try. Oh my, I tried to wash my wrist several times, I hated it and didn't go away. Smelled like burnt tyres on me :x
I do agree with you for Fève delicieuse. It's good but it reminded me of the first version of Calvin Klein Obsession that I used to wear in 1996... Just that the price is not the same. (Same for 1996 from Byredo that I do prefer to Fève delicieuse).
In general, the Private Dior collection is really good. It's expensive but even if some are not my taste I cannot say they are bad because they are well made, well balanced, well blended ...
And Sisley perfumes oh my god, there are no other fragrances that repell me so much... Like how, why, please put this far from my nose 😂
Dior Addict, I just love this one. It just makes me feel good and happy. It just put me in a good mood ! 😊
The perfumes that I absolutely adore and no one talks about are : Guerlain Joyeuse Tubéreuse, Dior Rose Kabuki, M. Micallef Royal rose oud, Bottega Veneta Eau de velours, Lancôme Iris Dragée, Lancôme Lavande Trianon.
And I looove Hermès perfumes and I think they deserve much hype. 👍
Don't worry I respect your opinion, even if you don't like one of my favourite it's OK. We all have different tastes it's normal 😉
Sometimes I laugh so much at Delicious delights reviews because obviously she dislikes the perfume she's reviewing... I watched her Juliette has a gun perfumes review I was dead lol 🤣

Chloe is my absolute favorite fragrance!! I keep a bottle of silver polish & wipe the silver area a couple of times a year to keep it beautiful.
Lol I do the same as you! Ithought I was the only crazy one who use to clean up the metal parts of perfumes to keep tem bright like in the first spray (Angel also need clean up with silver polish from times to times)
I like the topic, the video, and the makeup 🤩 I have same issue with oud bouquet the old formulation, but I like the new formulation. I didn't like flower bomb, feve delicius , and black opium.
Omg, all I get from black opium is cofeeeee, amazing delicious coffee with a bit of chocolate and it lasts 8+ hours 😭😭😭 I absolutely adore it!! Also, the D&G L' Imperatrice smells divineeee, juicy watermelon with flowers, although quite soft and not long lasting unfortunately ... On a different note, I absolutely despise CK escape but love almost all the other CK 😁 Scents are so subjective, it's incredible!!
Yes the original Black Opium has a strong coffe note...I still don’t like it tho 😂
You are spot on as ever Sarah. I really resent paying a lot of money for a fragrance that has no lasting power....so many of the very expensive ones are not special and are gone in an hour or two. The big perfume houses are taking advantage of their customers, Dior is one of the worst culprits (Hypnotic Poison is the exception).I like YSL Black Opium but have to layer it with Chopard Casmir to make it last a few hours. ES Girl of Now and Girl of Now Shine are beautiful.I have some original Alien but cannot seem to like all the flankers x
Oh my gosh that makes me so mad too. All perfume is pretty expensive but the really expensive ones irritate me when the smell is gone in a couple hours. If I have to carry it in my purse to reapply it doesn't feel like it's worth it to me.

Love this video. Black opium and flowebomb got me into perfumes like a lot of ppl and also you aren't offending anyone. This is your opinion and your giving us insight. Unlike a video I seen recently called tacky perfumes which offended a lot of ppl. That video was a mess. There's no such thing as tacky smelling.

Manifesto & Addict are just amazing. I adore wearing them. I have Flowerbomb Nectar- it's a lovely syrupy texture. I never could see why all the hype for Black Opium. It's soooooooo boring and unspectacular. I regret buying Le Vie Est Belle early on in my collecting b/c it's cloying as hell......and again, ridiculously over hyped or at least it was a couple years ago. Le Imperatrice is actually really pretty to me and I enjoy wearing my sample, but a reviewer said it's a clean fruity shampoo scent which is kinda true..... so that makes it basically just an overlyexpensive body spray. Underhype Chanel's Chance Fraiche gives me my spring vibes and yet is much more interesting. I wore Escape in high school... wish I kept my bottle. Girl of Now is a gem, very happy to own it thanks to Emmy. It's so unique and yet very approachable.
I need By the Fireplace in my life, maybe next season. Underhypyed but MAGICAL is Alien Essence Absolue, holy crap I live for that juice.

I go thru seasons of loving a particular perfume and then having it almost make me sick but I LOVE perfume. The YSL Black Opium is one that I heard was so nice and I bought it and was underwhelmed. I gave it to my grandma for her birthday, same with Tom Ford's Velvet Orchid. I have sort of transitioned to La Lebo and Jo Malone. Tonka may be my fave right now.

I purchased the Alaia Blanche and I’m not crazy about the opening of that perfume but the middle and base note are beautiful! Have you smelled Burberry Black I was interested in purchasing it along with Dior’s Addict. Oh and I almost forgot I’d like to get the Club Nuit too! Great video!

Hi, Sarah! You know, I got several tiny samples sent to me and one was the Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, among others. I sprayed it on my skin, let it settle, decided I really liked it and came here to see what you thought of it. What is interesting is the patchouli note that you don't care for may be the reason I do like it, *but* I was thinking about why I had a good reaction to it and I think I know why-I grew up in the 60's, the hippie era and patchouli incense was literally everywhere! It must evoke some memories of that time period for me and we know that scent is really connected to memory. And perfume preferences are so personal anyway, our skin chemistries vary so much. I also received Burberry Her, Victoria's Secret Tease Noir, Vera Bradley Vanilla & Sea Salt, Givenchy Very Irresistible and I Am Juicy Couture in the sampler packet. Today I received Victoria's Secret Midnight Bloom in body mist form (sort of dupe for Ariana Grande Cloud, inspired by your husband's reaction) and on the way is the Femme Absolue by Vicky Tiel. I'm terrible at picking out notes in the fragrances, probably will come with time~Cynthia

Just get a jewelry polishing cloth and re-shine your Chloe bottle, it’s just that simple. So many people complain about the tarnishing of the cap all they need to do is buff it with silver polish or a jewelry polishing cloth that you can get from the jewelry store for about six dollars. Hope this helps.

I agree with you about Black Opium. I finally got to try it out with a sample recently and every time i wore it I would notice i could barely smell it after no time at all. Such a disappointment. Especially because i loved the smell of it. I even tried spraying 5 sprays at one point but it didn't help it to hang around any longer, unfortunately. And i dont care for Flowerbomb either. Initially i blind bought it because I thought I'd love it but i was wrong. Just something about it doesnt work for me. Its probably the patchouli since often times i dont like it. I wanted to like it so much! But it wasnt for me. I like abd have Chloe as well and I'm interested in the Alaia Blanche, Club de Nuit and the Burberry. Ive smelled the My Burberry Blush and love it and I imagine I'd love the original as well. Thanks for your thoughts! 😊

So sorry to hear that Oud Bouquet and Feve Delicieuse didn't work for you. Neither were first loves for me, though Oud Bouquet very quickly became more and more amazing. I've never smelt a rubbery vibe from it however. Feve was a strange one to me at first, but now I get powdery marzipan, and something tart. Overall is just class👌
Interestingly Chloe has never worked for me, plus I've never found a vanilla fragrance that lasts on my skin yet, it just seems to eat it up. Was interesting hearing your thoughts x Happy Christmas 🎄🎁🎉❄☃️
I just received a small bottle of the reformulated version of oud bouquet and I like it much better. It’s softer and sweeter and much more well balanced. I’m excited to wear it. Every time I smell my decant of Feve it grows on me a bit more. I feel like it’s aging or something. Lol I hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! 🥰🎄🙏🏻🎁
Sarah like this video. I love your voice is so peaceful. I was so excited to tried some perfume that brought online for some reviewers recommendations that is a dupe for coco mademoiselle . When arrives ,in my skin is so disappoint 🤮🙁. Now im very scared to by fragances blindly . I agree with you there are a lot perfumes overhyped. Green Rocket it has a light metallic touch but if you didn’t know it had the gunpowder note I don’t think you’d notice it. It’s also super sweet otherwise.

Perfume is very personal. Either you like it or not depending on how it works with your body chemistry. In my collection I have Flowerbomb, Black Opium, Dior Addict and YSL Manifesto and I have been wearing them since they first came out. Love them! They stayed on me all day long without reapplying, until my next shower and sometimes I can even smell them on me after a shower. The first time I wore Black Opium I was going to a party and I stopped at a CVS to buy a birthday card and this woman told me she had been following me all over the store until she finally decided to ask me what perfume I was wearing. Some of the other perfumes mentioned, I have been meaning to order samples and check them out, specially Alaia. Now, Chloe, the original version, came out when I was a teenager and my mom’s best friend used to wear it and I hated it, never liked it, too green for my taste. And because I didn’t like the original, I have avoided trying the newer version. Maybe I should give it a try.
The first time I wore Oud Bouquet, it made me literally physically ill and sick to my stomach within about 10 seconds of putting it on and I was sick for hours. Never had that happen to me before with a perfume. I was so upset because I really liked the dry down when I had put it on a tester strip, but I have never worn it again and never will because of that god awful opening. I almost feel sick just thinking about that smell again, I will never forget it. LOL
As a parfum lover you know that a parfum does not smell for everybody the same. My favorite for the summer is Flowerbomb and have been using this perfume when it first was on the market in 2004 in Berlin. The frequenc stays with me all day and people love the smell on me. I get compliments all the time. The same with Chanel no 5 or Chanel Premiere I love to use in winter.
I have so many Parfums, but some I can't smell on me so I give them to friends who can wear them.
I can't rember what parfum smelled exactly like Urin on me, but I had to try it out because on my friend it just smelled gorgeous.
Completely agree. I too fell for the hype and purchased the original formula Oud Bouquet, it was a very expensive mistake. Flowerbomb I can’t smell on myself but a colleague used to wear it and it literally filled the room, not in a good way though. L’Imperatrice is just awful to me, I don’t get it! I used to love Black Opium but I suspect it was reformulated. I don’t find it as complex or long lasting as the original bottle I had.
I love your makeup. I am very into eyeshadow myself and love the lipstick too. Very monochromatic. You should put your makeup in the description box.

I think individual body chemistry has a lot to do with how a particular scent smells and lasts in your skin.
I knew someone who wore the OG Poison, and it smelled wonderful on her.
It smelled medicinal on me, 🤢 yuck.
I just bought some Black Opium decant and just ordered a big bottle. I absolutely love it and I do have respect. The coffee note isn’t too strong, but it’s there. It don’t care if it’s popular. I love it. But I bought montale intense cafe which is very fresh Rose and coffee. Those two are good layered. Never liked Flowerbomb. It smells awful on me.
Chloe is meh on me, but I love Roses de Chloe.

I bought DG I’imperatrice last month. I only sprayed the bottle cap and I like it. Never tried it on my skin and I hope it doesn’t turn to Clorox wipes lol. That one seems like a tricky one depending on your chemistry because of the notes.

Sarah Mayes I applied 4 sprays to my arm after watching this an I’m happy to say that it worked well with my skin although it turned into a skin scent rather quickly.
Great choices! I agree on most of them. I’m wearing By the Fireplace now it is my favorite during the winter! In brutally hot 125 degree summers I wear D & G L’Impeatrice because the watermelon scent is strong and juicy! Tried it recently on a cold day of 60 degrees and had to scrub it off! It is definitely a high heat activated perfume! 😎🍉👍

Stella agreed is the best clear rose, although Roses Musk from Montale I prefer on my skin personally but the Rose is so similar. As a teen I wore Flowerbomb for YEARS and it has a strong scent memory for me, but I do not own a bottle any longer. I wear the sample occasionally and it’s not quite the same.. I have a feeling it Is my skin chemistry. It isn’t as special anymore, either that or the formula has changed slightly. I lately love Good Girl. It’s great and sexy on my skin. I do like Ôud Bouquet and it is addictive (I have new formula only) but I was turned off by it the first times I ever wore it. Velvet Rose & Oud is the same perfumer, I own both as the latter is much less sweet and deep to me and therefore more wearable. I just bought Girl of Now but I’m struggling with the sweetness.. I shall see. Also I’m writing this comment out as I watch... I’ve heard Alien is getting reformulated with the L’Oreal purchase next year.. personally gives me a headache so maybe I’ll prefer new but I know there are so many diehard fans :(
I’ve now worn girl of now a few times and I definitely like it. It opens up on skin, and it is a strange juxtaposition, extremely sweet but also refined.

Do you have a video for wedding perfumes? Maybe you can do one on spring since that’s when most people get married. Actually the most people get married in June. I got married in August and I wore Italian Summer Fig from the body shop. I probably would have worn something different if I had gotten married today lol.

I agree, I absolutely love Chloe! I also adore Chloe Love Story. Both such beautiful scents! I don’t have My Burberry but I do have My Burberry Black and My Burberry Blush, both of which are classy. Now I need the original My Burberry! I would say Burberry does perfumes well. I also love Burberry Weekend and Burberry Body! I totally agree with your opinion of Dior Addict and Alien! Both are sexy and unique! I’m not sure why people would get offended if you dislike certain perfumes. Perfumes are so individual and depend totally on a person’s body chemistry!

I find that with the CK line as well, that they don’t last long. Escape is an absolute beast on me though. It easily last through my 10 hour work day. 🥰

I have a really special bond with this fragrance bc I wore it all throughout my first pregnancy almost 10 years ago and it brings back so many sweet memories... I wear it really sparingly now bc I want to cherish that bond with that seasons of my life but I still love it. I totally agree with you on Chloe's. it is my chanel n5 if you know what I mean. i am almost done with my bottle I need to repurchase a new one. I will definitely try and smell Burberry's perfume cuz your description intrigued me even though I am not a classy woman ahahah.

Some people may cringe when I say this, but Obsession has been one of my favorite scents for years. I don't think the formula is as good as it was originally, however it still smells good to me. Part of it may be the memories it brings back.👃❤

With bodies being either acidic or alkaline the perfumes that work well and stay as they should depends on the match with one’s chemistry.
