    The best thing about learning from your videos is that I can shut it off whenever I feel and watch it whenever I want as per my convenience . I have always felt lazy and boring to attend lectures after lunch break. I see your lectures after midnight and I'm able to concentrate on it more. Thanks for your precious lectures sir !

    Excellent lectures.. I am preparing for my second mates and this is helping me a lot. I was always weak in ROR but these videos are clearing my doubts. Your communication is clear and the diagrams/situations you explain on board helps to understand the rule better. I wish you were there to teach us during our pre sea. Anyways, keep up the good work sir !

    Sir in the 2nd situation where the vessel is coming from 20 degrees abaft the beam can we alter to stbd and head to the stern of the vessel provided the distance between that vessel and my vessel is more than the turning circle of my vessel?

    Instead of class recordings, try to make videos which are scripted by you. extremely helpful . i am glad I found this channel .Thanking you

    Sir , the second case you explained where the target is 2 points abaft the beam and we a/c to port . Sir here instead of doing a parallel course for a long distance why can't we a/c to port take a full round and pass astern of the target vessel.

    • @thecaptainschannel7206
      @thecaptainschannel7206  6 лет назад

      Turning around reduces speed of vessel drastically n we also tend to loose orientation. As per rules the action is correct.

    Sir if circumstances of the case does not permit me to alter course towards star board site can't I alter course to Port side 90 degree to the relative approach of the targets as it is the fastest way of getting away from the situations sir above action are still within the rule 15 or it will come under the heading rule 2 departure from the rules

    I can Alter to port ? And starboard?
    Please help sir

    • @thecaptainschannel7206

      Yes

    • @thecaptainschannel7206
      @thecaptainschannel7206  Год назад

      Yes. As per rule 18 you have to keep clear of RAM and it does not say which side to allter so u may alter to port. Starboard, or reduce ur speed. All actions r correct.

    Perfect analysing!!! Captain I have two questions. First, in special circumstances only we alter course to port and one of there is when we have a tug ahead in our starboard side. But if this tug was in the port side we must alter heading to starboard? Also when we change course is mandatory to announce via sound signals to be more clear?

    • @AkashYadav-fj9eq
      @AkashYadav-fj9eq 2 года назад

      You should sound your intentions as per the sound signals
      If altering to stbd then one short blast as per rule 34 a

    Hello sir,
    Vsl sees both sidelights and masthead lights of target vessel one point on the stbd bow at 3 miles. Own vessel spd 15 kts, target vessel speed 18 kts. As i see it, this means that the vessel is heading for own vessel and there will be appreciable bearing change and hence subsequently no ROC. But, the CPA will be low and there can be a close quarters situation. Action by own vessel? should she alter wide to stbd so that target vessel sees her port light after action compared to her stbd light before or should she keep her course and speed and not take any action at all since there is no ROC?

    • @thecaptainschannel7206
      @thecaptainschannel7206  6 лет назад

      ROC means zero or very low CPA. If you are passing very close and it makes you uncomfortable then it is to be treated as ROC and action should be as per rules. Alter wide to starboard and show your port side to other vessel as this is crossing situation

    Sir, what should be the best action in example 2 of this explanation, where you talked about alteration to PORT?

    • @abhimanyukumar2495
      @abhimanyukumar2495 5 лет назад

      And also in last of vedio you said We may take Action to port alteration. Sir. Why May, why not Must for this particular situation? Because action is upto us with condition not to pass ahead until circumstances admits, we can take port alteration and pass astern.
      Here in this case Since vessel B is with greater speed vessel A can drop speed by 2-3 kts to get a CPA ~ 2'

    dear respected sir, no doubt your explanation is very good but in this crossing situation if you are altering course at range of 8 NM.
    but as per rule 22 - visibility of mast head lights are 6 miles, whereas side lights are 3 miles.
    so, how can i see the side lights which have intensity of just 3 miles at 8 NM?
    I hope u would reply, or any pro lad in colregs gives me satisfactory answer..

    • @abinrobert
      @abinrobert 6 лет назад

      That's why second masthead is placed higher than the forward one. You have to use your visualization skills .
      Captain sir plz crct me if am wrong

    Hello sir. First of all, i have seen all your videos related to ROR on your channel and would like to thank you a lot for sharing your knowledge and wisdom through these videos and for such a fine explanation. Helping me a lot to prepare for my 2nd mate competency orals.
    I have 2 questions:
    1. NUC or RAM vessel crossing from port to stbd. Who would be the give way vessel in this case? Because rule 15 applies only to 'power driven' vessels. If the answer is own vessel owing to rule 18, would altering to port and passing astern of these vessels be acceptable? as 17c also applies only when the another vessel is power driven.
    2. In RV, you explained if own vessel hears apparently abaft the stbd beam the fog signal of another pd vessel, to increase the frequency of our sound signal. What if the intensity of target vessel is still increasing despite this? What can own vessel do manoeuvring wise?
    These questions were asked in orals recently and was not sure about the answers. Would appreciate your reply.

    • @thecaptainschannel7206
      @thecaptainschannel7206  6 лет назад

      1. When NUC or RAM is crossing you from port to starboard, as per rule 18 they have right of way and hence as power driven vessel your duty to keep clear. Yes you can alter to port and pass astern. Rule 17 is not applicable here since you are give way and not stand on vessel.
      2. The answer remains the same, the intensity of sound signal will increase if other vessel is coming closer, but the confusion about ROC remains the same.
      For further explanation you can come and meet me personally.
