I used to dance to this song with my daughter to help her get to sleep. She still tears up when she hears it. I have to learn this song to surprise her. I have cancer and so it's so important to me to learn it and play it for her. Thank you so much for this lesson. It couldn't have come at a better time. GOD bless you sir, and thank you.
Michael, contact me at andy@shutupandplay.ca and I'll give you the tab for this if you think that would help. I'm hoping everything works out for your family...
Michael, this is the toughest fight of your life but continue to fight hard! It is worth it! I went through 15 rounds of chemo and came out the other side stronger, healthier, and with a greater appreciation of life. I splurged a couple of years ago and bought myself a Martin and enjoy the great tutorials that Andy provides and they give me peace and comfort. I sincerely hope you find the same. And thank you, Andy for the great music and lessons. They are greatly appreciated, perhaps more than you know at times!!!
I'm an advanced player. BEST lessons I've run across by far and I've sampled a LOT. All visual. No tabs. Most importantly, no USELESS chatter. What verbal instruction there is, is concise, relevant, boiled down and to the point. BTW, this rendition is beautifully done. Nice work , Shut up!
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of the girl who broke my heart. I still remember listening to this and thinking about her. This was beautiful thank you
you really are the best youtube has. Been listening a long time now. I listen to everyone but I've yet heard anyone bring out the sound and beauty of the instrument like you do. I'm an excellent player, but I cant bring it to life as well as you . You really have a gift. It's not what you can play, It's how well you bring the magic out of the instrument
This sounds so nice. I have a similar model of Taylor too. I think I might even have the same reverb pedal. I need to change my strings after hearing this. Thanks so much for a wonderful tab and just great playing in general
What a beautiful arraignment, great job at keeping it accurate and still easy enough for a mere mortal to play. Another 20 minutes of great content, thank you. OK, now I'm gonna shut up & play.
This is a winner! I just love this song. Breaks my heart everytime I hear it. Thank you! I might add that I love this tuning. I actually use it a lot. Very much worth experimenting with.
Hi Jeffrey! Playing guitar adds a whole other dimension to your life. I'm sure you could play guitar because your soul already expressed an interest. And you picked such a gorgeous song!! Best wishes!!!!
Been playing Double dropped D for a while. Norwegian Wood, Cover me up, The Chain. Such a lovely resonating tone. My favourite Sting song as well, will now add this. Thank you so much. Rick Beato did a great take on Sting, the most original composer in pop/rock musically, a great watch as well.
What a beautiful arrangement. The song by its author was lovely, but - for me - this instrumental, when played as perfectly as you always do, is far more compelling than the version with words. Though it is moderately difficult to learn and play - it is infinitely more so, to play well. What a gift........ as always......... absolutely lovely.... wish i'd found it sooner...
Simply beautiful Andy. I know you posted this 2 years ago, but I'm watching it on New Year's Eve, 2022, and I wish you a very healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year ahead in 2023.
I have to thank you sir for the lessons ! I never in my wildest dreams thought I would play the guitar at this level ! Thank you very much and may God bless you always !
I've always liked this song and enjoy playing on classical guitar so I was thrilled you play it here that's very pretty and pleasing melodic performance. As a guitarist for book trailers about comics who seeks inspiration, your instruction here is nice since you clearly explain reasons for tunings and nicely model how to add in guitar fills. Cheers!
Great arrangement. I love the way the notes ring out together helped by the double dropped D tuning. I have used that tuning on the Doors tune "This is the End" and an early Dylan tune too but never in such a harmonic way. Sweet. You are right to emphasize the importance of not accidentally muting notes.
I love this version !! Will be taking on the task to learn this as well. To Micheal, you wrote earlier that he has cancer - stay strong! I had prostate cancer last year. I’m on the other side of it now and the guitar is my new medicine.
Just barely missed Sting's birthday! Only reason I know that is because we share the same birthday. I think I'll learn this just because of that! Haha, good lesson as always of course.
Oh Andy, this tutorial just scratched a nagging itch; as much because it opened the song to me (Finally!) as well as your demo at the beginning is beautiful. Thanks, man!
Andy, You are a solid player and excellent teacher of various techniques. I’ve played over 50 years and appreciate the straight forward way you take the guesswork out of learning for intermediate, wanna be’s like myself! Keep it up and I will donate as I can. Definitely a solid investment with great return!
Without having a guitar in my lap right now & listening to you …I’m not sure I care for the high E ringing out like that…but that’s just me. I always use my Boss GE-6 pedal to tone down the E & B strings.. for some reason my ear hears them ringing out way more loud than I care for…Great video as always Andy…you’ve been an incredible inspiration.✌️
Your videos bring me so much pleasure and information Andy whether I know and like the song or not. This is one of my favourite songs and Ive been meaning to donate for too long. Now done. Thanks for all your great work..
Breathtakingly beautiful arrangement...and do-able, once I remember all the parts and fingering :) The tabs are always so helpful. We love you, Andy!!!
Thanks for this amazing arrangement! Sting wrote the beautiful lyrics, but let’s not forget the music is from Dominic Miller (one of my guitar heros), a British guitarist born and raised in Argentina.
Man what a beautiful arrangment..... I have sung this a million times (around UK) and was wondering about a different arrangement, then just saw your vid....wow ---awesome job... I shall learn and incorporate... Cheers . Dave :)

Your video always get me in a panic, I scramble to make sure I am subbed and alerts are on! ;-)) Checkin out your Sultans of Swing vid right now, cheers!
Curious- was the song choice inspired by Mike Dawes' recent upload of "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room"? He hits the melody notes from Fields of Gold in the solo, and I know it has been trending recently.
Merci mon ami, this song is a legacy from my past. I was deeply in love with a woman who chose a rich man over me. We remained close, as secret lovers do. When she did get married she asked me to be Master of Ceremonies to which I readily agreed. I was responsible for music selection and I had the last dance. I chose Fields of Gold as it had meant a lot to both of us. “you’ll remember me….” As we danced she whispered in my ear, with a smile, “you’re a bastard.” And so it was 26 years ago that I said goodbye. I am an accomplished guitarist but now that I have learned this so delicately I can let the ghost haunting begin. Thank you for reaching into my past and allowing me to express a love so long suppressed. Thank you. KM

I Agree!
That reverb sounds heavenly.
Is that some kind of shimmer reverb or thats just a different effect going on in the background?
Cloudburst?
Mesmerizing the beauty of your playing and lessons thank you Andy
Thank you very much!
One of the most beautiful song Sting ever wrote and yours Tutorials are simply the best on Tube. Thanks.
Thank you very much. Cheers, Andy.
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of the girl who broke my heart. I still
remember listening to this and thinking about her. This was beautiful thank you
I’m going to have this on repeat. Just got my first guitar. I can’t play anything. I love this song. You did it so well.

Thanks buddy. Brilliant arrangement. Took me a couple of weeks starting with ‘I’ll never get this’ to absolute perfection. Thanks to you.
This sounds so nice. I have a similar model of Taylor too. I think I might even have the same reverb pedal. I need to change my strings after hearing this. Thanks so much for a wonderful tab and just great playing in general

A beauty. One of my favorite songs.
Tone is unreal. Thanks, Andy.
Love your arrangement, even better than the original voice version. Great tune, easy to learn. What else ?
This is the song Paul McCartney said he wished he had written. Very nice arrangement here.
Wow, I've never heard that before, but coming from Paul, arguably the greatest songwriter of our time, it's the ultimate compliment!
@@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials Agreed. You're also right about dropping the first string down to D, it really makes your arrangement ring beautifully.
Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials Without a doubt, guy wrote over 300 songs just with the Beatles and still wished he had written this song

Stunning playing and sound. That would be a great go to song - once learned - when people say: “Oh you play ! Play something.”
This is just a hypnotic arrangement, Andy. Thank you.

A beautiful song and an equally beautiful performance Andy. Love the ringing tones. Time to head over and pick up the Tab .. cheers, stay safe.

Thanks for this amazing arrangement! Sting wrote the beautiful lyrics, but let’s not forget the music is from Dominic Miller (one of my guitar heros), a British guitarist born and raised in Argentina.
Thanks Fred. While it's true that Dominic Miller co-wrote "Shape Of My Heart", "Fields Of Gold" is Stings song. Cheers
I like it so very much!! I showed to my friends and they liked your version 👍👍👍
Beautiful arrangement. Purchased tab and excited to learn! Thank you
Sounds gorgeous, so ethereal. Thanks.
So, this double drop D it's an almost DADGAD tuning, only second string stays on B. In fact it sounds very much as a celtic melody.
I thought the same thing, Tony McManus is just insanely good with DADGAD and pipe tunes
Great choice. Sting has lots of stuff that just resonates with me. Lovely sound, brother.
Can you please conisder teaching the acoustic intro of "crazy on you" by "heart"?
Thank you so much for this beautiful arrangement. It’s fun learning it and your guidance was fantastic
