Thank you so much for sharing your mistakes with us! For people like me who are new to garment sewing it demonstrates how we can recover from a wrong turn.
I like how you explain both the pros and cons of your sewing projects. I'm with you on all the different 'variations' of fabrics there are out there, many of which we know about verses those we sometimes challenge our skills against. I like that you made lemon-aid from a lemon, so to speak. I think that helps sewer expectations so much when we're honest about experiences as a way to encourage beginners and advance alike not to give up when they come to a bump in the road. Everything made here is lovely!
Aww thank you Melissa! How are you? You are so disciplined with your diet - that is fantastic. I’m feeling well and staying active “motion is lotion” and it’s true! The days I am in the most pain are the days I don’t MOVE.
Here is one of the many reasons I just love you - I have B4812 and have wanted to make it forever. Now I see how cute it is! I also have S8595 and want to make it for just evenings in the house. Again, I get to see it done and I think it's my favorite of the lot. Those Kwik Sew shorts fit you like a dream. It was clearly a good month, brocade bungles not withstanding -
Aw Jen, thanks a mil! I think back to your messages to me looong ago and how much I always loved reading them. You spurred me on to keep at it! Many thanks!! Congrats on your wildly successful channel, too!👏👏
Love all your makes and your cheerful and happy mood. Makes me want to get up and sew something. You make any simple pattern special because you appreciate everything you do, I can see that because I have the same attitude for work but when it comes to sewing, I am kind of critical of my myself. I just need to relax and enjoy every small project I am able to finish. Thank you for making me reflect on my approach to sewing. I always enjoy your videos.
I love you so much because you are honest about your sewing journey. I know people that will show you and tell you of their successes, but not their challenges. You did well. You used your knowledge to use a favorite fabric in a very flattering way. Congratulations! Your top is lovely on you. As usual your other makes are beautiful! Hugs
All those skirt mistakes on the last outfit were very serendipitous, at least to me, because I LOVE it as a sleeveless top with those wonderful culottes! Also, I really liked both other tops a lot!
I love the 8595 border print dress. I go crazy for your color blocking and border print blouses and dresses. Just beautiful. I agree that the wide straps/shoulder really make the dress. It is a timeless classic detail that sets it apart.
A tip for tying a bow that goes straight across rather than crooked: it’s all in the first crossover. Tie your bow (or shoelaces) and notice which way you make the first crossover. Then finish the way you normally would. If the bow ends up crooked, that’s a granny knot, and it will come untied quite easily. Now untie it, and do the first crossover the other way. And finish the way you would normally. It’s a little awkward to get used to it at first, but the bow should come out straight across the shoes or dress. That’s an Ian knot, and actually stays tied! I learned that at 50 years old!
This is wonderful!!!!! Awww……. You made a great shell out of your skirt that didn’t work!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!! See …we all learn so much from your experience! Really wish I was a fly on the wall for that one! From a hot air balloon skirt, to serging off fabric, to a blouse with gathered sleeves, to a beautiful shell you can smile about!!! Glad you were able to rescue the serger!!! 💕. Ok, now I must quit watching you and get something accomplished!
Watching your videos over the past several months has inspired me to get some fabric and sew some clothes, which I haven't done in over 40 yrs or so.Looking forward to getting back into sewing. Thank you for your inspiration and I love your shell top!
Oh, I love your videos! I have been literally binge watching! You verbalize all of the sewing mishaps we experience with such grace and humor. I SO wish you were my neighbor, it would be a lot of fun! I appreciate all your reviews.
Thank you for this wonderful video. I absolutely love when you model your clothes that you sew. You are beautiful and you make your outfits so beautiful. I hope to see more of these in the future. You are an absolute inspiration to me to keep on sewing and creating outfits. God bless
Thanks! I enjoyed your show. I'm working on a top for going out tomorrow. I like watching sewing shows while I am sewing. You have a nice day too. Later.
Oh Viv, you thrilled me with all of your beautiful makes and then made me laugh out loud with your very humourous tale of "putting down" your glamorous gathered skirt. I'm glad there was, ultimately, enough material left of that fabulous fabric to make the little shell blouse. The shorts you made for Colin are so cool and most definitely do look like a pair of expensive designer made shorts. Kudos! Loved this video, such a magnificent array of gorgeous garments and such a fun, entertaining time. Thank you for sharing your talent, time, and amusing adorable personality!
As always I enjoyed this video. All lovely makes. I like how you combine certain fabrics together and they turn out nicely. Thanks for the laugh with your party skirt. You had me in tears. But I love that you didn’t give up and turned it into a shell. Thanks again!🥰
All your makes are my favorite! You are awesome VivMom. I love the way you explain your vision for the fabrics and garments…and your straight shooting on the outcome. 💕
I love your tee shirt dress, I am glad you linked the construction video. Love 🥰 the lavender tie dress. The sleeveless border print dress is so pretty, love the material and I like the wide straps too. So nice for the summer. It is elegant and comfortable looking. The peasant top dress is gorgeous! You do have such a vision as to what to make with different materials. I would never have thought that the material you used would look so good for your dress. I love your choices when you show us your materials, such beautiful and some fun, bold patterns, and I always look forward to seeing what you will make with them. I am a huge fan, and love your monthly makes videos. 😊💗💕
You are so much fun to watch in this video! Your honesty with fails and regrouping or do-overs is fitting for so many viewers but we don’t like to admit it😆 I’ve thrown away a couple of things because I just couldn’t imagine anything else to do with the “mistake”! Thanks for sharing and as always your efforts are appreciated! 💐
You are such a motivation for me. So many of my next projects are inspired by your make. I am thrilled to report that I now incorporate more patters and colour in my fabric choices. Everything always looks fantastic on you.
Oh my gosh!!! You out did yourself Vivmom!!!! I like everything!!! The fabrics are just beautiful! Tell me... You must get tons of compliments when you wear your makes! Just beautiful! I even like Colin's shorts! You are right....very Gucci.
I laughed so hard at your skirt/pirate blouse (Seinfeld reference) debacle. Oh could I relate. I just love your makes videos. I love to see what a finished garment looks like on a real person, and you are so real. Keep on doing you.
Love all your makes ! I am so glad you could salvage some of that beautiful brocade! Yes a sheath dress would have been lovely from it. Oh well. Live and learn😊 My favorite was the black and white border print dress. And the peasant top lengthened to a dress is lovely! Great fabric choice for that one! So enjoy seeing your fabric buys come to life in garments!
Viv, you are amazing! I have enjoyed your make videos for some time and have been meaning to let you know how much I look forward to both your makes and your videos. You must have a wardrobe now where you could wear a unique outfit for months on end without repeat😉 Thank you for sharing and for all your hard work to provide us with such beautiful content!
Another fun video with my morning tea. I get inspiration from your fabric selections and pairings. I will look for stretch rayon. 🤔 This afternoon I am having a friend's daughter, 18 yrs old, come over to sew. She has never used a sewing machine. YIKES! This should be interesting. I hope she comes away with an appreciation and maybe an interest in sewing more. Thanks again for the video. SueB.
Hi Viv, thanks for sharing your fab makes. Particularly loved the elegant black, floral dress which had to be sewn-up by 3 inches at the front. It is so special on you.
Great sews! My favorite was that blue moleskin. It was so darling! I mean, everything was great, but that fabric just really was 😍pretty. Super save on the voluminous skirt! The top was a great save & really 👏👌 cute!
OH the leaves dress!!! Love that so much. I believe I have some of that fabric in my stash. The skirt turned into a shell is darling. It would have been super cute with a pencil skirt, and I bet that would have worked fine with that fabric. It looks great with the black pants though. Thank you for another fun fashion show my friend.
Love your metallic top/rescue in your last make. Beautiful simple use of that gorgeous fabric! I also think my other favorite is your sleeveless border print dress. I love how you used the contrast border part for the binding. You look so cute in all of your makes, however. Thanks Viv! 😍👍👍
Love you, Viv! Thank you so much for your generosity in making these videos, and your honesty in sharing both the triumphs and the make-it-work-anyway-triumphs. Beautiful work, and so inspiring, as always. I especially liked the first dress and the peasant dress on you, very pretty! Fun fact, the green dress on the envelope of S8595 is in my daughter's closet - the exact dress that was used for that photo shoot. We always got to shop the samples that Simplicity was selling after their fashion shows at Sew Expo in Puyallup, WA. She loves that dress, it's a great pattern. Thanks again for the gift of a wonderful makes video. You're such a blessing!
What a cool story, Sherry!! Shopping the samples! I have often wondered what happens to them. And who are the seamstresses toiling away to finish production in time for the photo shoots and pattern rollouts? I would love to interview some of the insiders @ Simplicity as I find it all fascinating.😃
Gorgeous video! We all make mistakes Viv - you inspire us all to keep going in spite of our bloopers! Thanks from Melbourne for the ongoing inspiration.
Haven’t sewed for years and was never great at it but I really enjoy seeing your projects. I am inspired to get out the machine and try my had at making some linen tunics with wide leg flown pants. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
I love your show and tell.
You are fun to listen to and watch…Oh how I love your honesty 🤣..love it
My husband made me a clapper out of some scrap maple. I love it!
Hi Lynda
