The thing is, people did ask for character customization. Niantic just dropped the ball and released it half-ass like they do with every new feature
Customization has potential to be really nice, but niantic has to actually listen to player feedback and fix the models so they aren't so uncanny and clipping through accessories

yeah, It made my head fat as hell. I gotta agree with the customization in games thing.... Cyberpunk 2077 makes you chose your PP look and length even though the game is 1st person... so damn weird.

They all ugly, their mistake was removing the base foundational avatar, and pushing this idea that this avatar is all in one.
Attack me all you like, but there are distinct details and unique differences between one with a penis and a vagina. They were never meant to intertwine with one another naturally.

The kind of money this game pulls in does not match the level of quality it presents. Niantic would be doomed if the pokemon brand wasn't as strong as it is.
Pokémon is weakening however. Legends ZA is the next big title release. The chance of it failing just skyrocketed after this.

I logged in, and immediately recoiled when I saw the new avatar look. My character looked malnourished and pale. I immediately looked at my outfits i had and put on the crown tundra outfit with a big hat and then put on the grand oak glasses and purchased the team skull mask to cover every bit of skin possible.

These jawlines are all unflattering. Why have all these jawlines, but no choices in lips, eyebrows and eye shape? Arms are long and my female avatar is masculine in look and walk. Clothing fits terribly now.

This update is horrendous. I actually had high hopes despite knowing how bad it will be that I will manage to make somewhat of a decent looking avatar, in the end I was still disappointed.

You shouldn't even be commenting on this change because the male character barely changed at all. THE FEMALE AVATAR IS ATROCIOUS!! I canceled my trip to Go Fest in NYC & have asked for a refund for all the coins I've spent for clothes which look ridiculous.
It's not as drastically bad as the change the female avatar went thru, but trust that us guys do notice ours aren't quite right either.
So now we've got this andro avatar that can neither be feminine enough, nor can it be masculine enough either - what was the point to this update again?
Hopefully there's enough uproar that somebody at Niantic wakes up & we can get the OG avatars back (keep the new one as well - more options = more representation after all)

For me the worst part abt it is how the avatar model in the customisation screen is DIFFERENT from the actual overworld and Friends list model. Like it makes the eyes look unnecessarily "kawaii" by giving them additional catchlights, and if you use a fade it looks grey.
Other issues for me are the lack of short hairstyle options and how you're stuck with these limited face presets
I don’t understand why they don’t make the characters in the style of the anime. When the characters are looking closer to real we get more critical of the look.
I was quite happy with my avatar as it was... now with the new update it looks HIDDIOUS! I tried to modify it to look remotedly similar to what I had, and I couldn't the options are VERY different. I want my old avatar back! 😢

Face #7 (the one they added after beta testers' initial outcry) is *not* the old face. None of the 7 faces are. If you have any before & after screenshots, you can clearly see the difference between the well-designed, anime-style old face and the horribly dead-eyed new face options.
I'm not taking off my Day of the Dead facepaint to check any of these "Seven faces of WTF Niantic"

Dude its the faces and the bone structures of the avatars. I was in game design college. Trust me. Thats all it is. Such small designs flaws can throw off the entire thing and they make way too much money to release such poor work.
I'm glad they spent time & $ working on this important stuff instead of fixing Raid issues, GBL or improper bans and route deletions
The faces custom reminds me I watched the movie from “MEGAN”. It really looks so weird and hilarious but at least they have tried… I just hopefully more updates of faces will make it diffences.

The only thing I am disappointed is the body frame; Niantic should've at least kept the original avatar model and kinda interlock it with this update, along with customizing the framework to have bigger/smaller chests, hips (definitely hips), and butts.

I've actually been having problems with the game crashing since the new update was implemented. It will crash if I click on a gym, showcase, or if I try to send gifts to people and I came to the realization that the game is having trouble rendering custom avatars. If the avatar isn't customized it'll load just fine. I haven't heard anyone else talk about this, but it makes me wonder if they just released something and didn't bother to test it before calling it a day. Hopefully it's fixed soon.
They need a better male long hair. I’m not rocking Oprah hair when I need Keanu hair smh
Pokemon Go, it begins to update new features with character customization in the game, but it will be fun creating any characters and not taking opportunities for Niantic restrictions. I usually enjoy playing Pokemon Go adventures nearby Templestowe, Donvale, and Doncaster.

@@rickybobby38 wouldn’t be surprised. But I ran the numbers. Only 0.0004 percent of people playing the game were in favor of the update, utilizing the left wing mantra of “silence is violence” and the JK Rowling effect of “if you are against one thing woke, you are against all woke .
In 2023 there were 145 million registered users known, so with these numbers, there are only 58,000 people in favor of the update, and according to Niantic and GaymerX, these should be all transgenders. But 99.99% of transgenders are against this update. So with this in mind, only 6 people are in favor of the update. The number is actually 5.8, but you round up to the nearest whole person.
The thing is there has been feedback. They released it in some parts of the world as some kind of beta testing. Everybody unanimously hated it and yet they decided to release it as is instead of putting in more work to make it look decent. They really should have delayed this feature until it's ready so it doesn't look like a straight downgrade.

It's not so much the visual changes that are bugging me the most. It's the constant crashing when battling and opening certain menus.
Why are the skin tones not on a gradient sort
Give me back my old avatar its nostalgic and there was nothing wrong with it. This is gonna give me nightmares, gonna cover my face and wear big clothes so i don't see even the slightest bit of my avatar.
I personally had a male and female preset. All except one were deleted, which is the one I was wearing last. I've also noticed in the style tab, instead of buying one item and the clothing changes from one gender to another you'd have to buy both the female and male version.
Is there a way to go back to the old character look ?

The bone structure of the face makes you look like you have a baby face in the new update. They also deletes all your preset outfits that you already had made. I hope they add a feature that makes you have Heterochromia (two different eye colors) and Polydactyly (six fingers instead of five).
What I detest is that even with using the sliders to make your avatar look decent (I’ve practically had to go all the way right and left on all options), the lazily and uninspired flat design of the models themselves contrast with the art style of the Pokemon. It’s extremely apparent and off putting. I will never drop a cent on this game, ever. Goodwill with this game is completely tarnished.
I think they accidentally managed the polydactyly (spelling?) with the rock star airguitar pose ... but they probably fixed that a while ago now
Just hit level 40. I’m loving all the updates lately. Started back in 2017 but didn’t play for years until about JAN 2022 and have played near daily since. Lol my guy is wearing women’s clothing and looking fabulous but my wife looks a potato. Just turned my dude into carrot top with Gimmighoul glasses

What I hate the most is that my character is stuck using male animations, for example when idle or when celebrating it's using the male variant. And apparently you can change between male or female poses, but guess what, it's bugged. You select the female pose but you still get the male animations.

I actually like mine, but I've been playing video games since I was single digits and so I get how avatar customization works.
At first I was horrified to see my avatar, then I customized it and ended up happy, however, there are 2 things that I'm not happy about. Skin, I'm not white milk, nor dark caramel, I'm freaking in between, I had to choose your skin color, it still looks good with my character though. The second thing, the chest, being a man and having the chest where your lower ribs are sucks and it happens a lot with quite a few clothes. Another thing I noticed is that shoulders can't be as wide as they should, like I'm pretty slim and I'm max sized allowed, maybe even a lil higher. It ain't bad, but could be better. I'm not complaining though, my avatar and I look quite alike for what I expected

Also the Users can decide if they want to use the customization or make the generic Avatars that existed since the beginning. I remember when people had fun designing their Nintendo Mii characters.
You seem to have misunderstood.
The original male & female avatar are disappearing once this new avatar update goes live for everyone - everyone will be forced to use this new androgynous avatar.

It’s going woke. It is HORRIBLE. The male hair choices suck. There is literally no straight white male hair. Guess I’ll go with shaved sides and a hat.
I honestly do like this update, people can now have a different hairstyle and body shapes and more colors were added too. but I do wish they added more options for hairstyles. Maybe they will add more in future updates, hopefully.
