NOTE - The blind test has an ERROR where I clearly have the volume set improperly starting at the crunch tone. I'm so sorry for this, this is unusual for me, but will double check next time around. If you're curious, please go check Produce Like a Pro's video for the proper levels (I didn't accidentally touch the fader on this version of the clip)
Though, I’d love to see AA come out with an omnidirectional version of this microphone. That would be the ticket for recording classical piano in a nice space.
I really appreciate all the content you put out. Thanks too you I own an sm7b and a few sm57s. I know most people prefer the re20 in your comments but my voice is high pitched and filled with sibilance so the sm7b worked perfectly.. I initially bought it and sold months ago before I had a decent enough pre amp but now I'm loving it. Edit* i also now have a re20 because of you and the guy you had in your podcast episode. Its all overkill for my music and voice over needs but i also have a u87 so i passed that line way back. I just love building up the locker and enjoy music.
Cool video man. The small diaphram sounds huge compared to the large diaphram. Really interesting. I've been thinking of getting a small diaphram for a little while. That side by side really sold me. Good stuff. Thanks for doing what you do. 👍🙂
If you’re gonna get a small diaphragm, don’t pass up on the Sennheiser MKH 50. Used for all indoor scenes on The Dark Knight and most films and TV for the last 30 years.
my take on the boosts in the higher frequencies is a mechanical resonance on the membrane and the capsule. my guess: * the 15kHz resonance is a wave running from one side of the membrane to the other side and back. * the 5kHz resonance is from the membrane to the end of the capsule or a mounting point of the outer microphone case and back. of course that is just a guess. but it interesting that this can be seen in many different microphones. this maybe could be removed digitally much better than analog, (best would be to do that at a high sampling frequency like 192kHz, where you can use a delayed signal by the wave length and substract it with a certain small factor. practically you do the same like the resonance does but substract it instead of adding)
@@jannbautista4480 I get it, but the issue mics with "air" have is poor silabance control, thin and maybe brittle sound. Even expensive mics suffer from this.
Great review, helpful information. I was planning to buy stereo pair of Akg C451 to record acoustic guitar and then I found out that 22 engineers left Akg and made Austrian audio. What do you suggest to me now? To buy CC8 stereo pair? I don't know where they make C451 now, I guess China... Thank you! Cheers! :)
Interesting ... I'm on the verge to buy OC818 (pair) or CC8 (pair again). Will be recording only acoustic guitar. I believe the way to go is CC8, but still I'm really interested in an advice 🙂
You know what’s sorta crazy? Take every Austrian Audio mic and hold it up against its Neumann equivalent and without brand recognition or relative cost being a factor ask yourself, which would you rather own? Not so easy, is it? Quite a feat for a new company
Definitely! Its super hard to hold up in this market when you're fighting with such giants, you really have to bring something special to the table, and I absolutely think they have
@@AudioHaze Indeed, I completely agree with you. Austrian Audio stands out. And the CC8 mic sounds fantastic on your voice! Nothing wrong with using SDC's for spoken word applications.
@@AudioHaze Believe me, I'm surely not a saint 😉 But I'm very happy, if it helps you out a bit. The CC8 seems to be a very balanced and versatile mic. I have a matched pair of the Neumann KM184. What do you think, can the Austrian Audio even keep up with Neumanm?
Hey Ricky, Have you done a video looking at microphones for collecting audio samples (for music). I am leaning towards a small diaphragm condenser pair (mostly for off axis rejection; I am also working in a noisy NY apartment with crappy acoustics). Thoughts?
If you had to chose would you recommend Audio CC8 or OKTAVA MK-012 for streaming/online teaching in untreated room with some barking noise outside of a house?
Hi maybe you are able to breakdown how to get guitar tone/mix from The artist / band = Depapepe With their song = one, katana, or start? I tried many ways to mic-ing and mixing my guitar but never sounds close to them. Ended up being too presence-aggressive on upper mid-treble or just being muffled... I literally everyday try to find this kind of genre mixing tutorial on internet but never find one, because nobody play guitar like them... I'm so desperate now TT Thanks ^^ Sorry if my request/question is too hard, but I don't know where to search/ask anymore...

Finally! I've been so hyped about seeing the Austrian Audio mic review!! Great video as always!
Oh my friend, this is just the appetizer ;)
also wanna add that my toes are curling listening to the CC8 on the clean guitar tone, tip sticky.
@@AudioHaze The Entree is gonna make me pass out! I'll be patiently waiting :)
I got to record to a piano with my pair of cc8 and it's a killer! the tone is soooooooooo present and sweet!
I’d love to hear a recording of these utilized on a 9’ concert grand piano playing Chopin or Rachmaninoff in a nice hall.

Austrian Audio is one if the best companies of the last 10+yrs.
100% agree
well, it's basically AKG but unleashed
Great job as always! You are a great advertisement for this mic!

Great Review! I love the mic!
Thank you as always Rod!
Amazing review 👏👏👏
I like the OC better than the CC for cleans. When distortion comes into play though, it's a whole'nother story...
The low end response most likely
Good stuff, I’ll be shopping this week:)
Enjoy!
wow, this mic is insane, mids on this is soooo good, omg just i have to buy it even if i dont need it, it's better than SM7B
Preferred the OC818 on your voice, it was night-and-day clearer sounding - which surprised me for an LDC.
Simply because he is way too close to the CC8 and did not account for the proximity effect.

whoa the OC818
You sound awesome with this mic, I still don't understand why you don't like dark mics.
Not all! But yeah that is definitely a trend
Dark mics are like not having glasses for a long time, then getting them, and notice you can actually see leaves on the trees

That's a very DAW-looking sweater, my good sir.
MIDI clips for daysss :)
This mic looks amazing.
Would be a neat upgrade from my SM57 if I am lucky enough to win it xD

CC8 for electric, OC818 for Acoustic and Vocals.
Sounds nice.

Austrian Audio vs Lewitt video soon?
Ooooh maybe!
