Agreed, this whole concert was just incredible IMO, it was largely responsible for my growing appreciation of Gary Numan. The original versions were great, but some of them had a more minimalist, restrained sound to them that was more in keeping with that burgeoning era of electronic music. These versions are more dynamic, they have more edge to them. I totally get that many people were prefer the originals, and that's fine, but me personally, these are definitive.
A timeless classic, it's hard to believe that next year Cars will be 40 years old. Ffff I'm getting old I bought it in 1979 as a single .when it was released in the UK. It still sounds good though. Glad to see Gary still plays it live.
@@markcheetah4960 nah I think it might actually have been re-recorded in the studio. Not to say that he doesn't sound amazing live (I saw him just over a week ago!), but these recordings sound a bit too polished. I don't really care either way, still love this.
Gary Newman is fucking amazing I am 52 years old from Detroit Michigan. I’ve been following him since the cars made it on the radio. He’s totally changed. The mind with his concept of synthesizers now he thanks outside the box and makes it more aggressive music with guitars. He’s so progressive and amazing he influenced, my life in such an amazing way, I love him
I'm five years away from social security but Gary Numan is about the only artist who can perform like time stood still ... Sad to say, the rest are either dead or sound like they're almost there.
The first time I met Cars in GTA: Vice City at the age of 6-7 (15-16 years ago) and now I unerstand that I do love such music am loving since I was child thank you for your art, Gary *with Russia from love :D*
Going to see Gary Numan on my birthday Tuesday in Liverpool, I know I'll just burst out crying when he sings this. Memories. Remember this from eons ago......❤
I grew up on this song. This was the first song that turned me on to synth Gary Newman has always been the greatest in this category to me and this is a kick ass version. Love you, Gary thank you.
This song always had such momentum, but when they drop the bass line by two octaves it sounds like some great leviathan lifting off the sea floor. Absolutely incredible.
It was absolutely amazing. The first few seconds of the intro and watching the crowd explode with excitement. Best thing I've seen on RUclips in a while.
The layers of sound and how it just keeps stacking and building throughout the whole song until it just epically ends! Wow what a performance!!! So good!!
Forty eight thumbs down? Unthinkable. You can all Naff Off and leave the rest of us to enjoy this magnificent performance. Thank you Gary, for many years of music but nothing is as special for me as this song. The first one I purchased on 45rpm.
such a classic l miss those good old days over 3 decades ago, l met my 1st boyfriend and best friend via Gary Numan, who remembers tik n tok loved them too 😁
What a great time in music. The B52s had just come out, the Ramones were killing, Plasmatics were selling records and this simple song "Cars" was fantastic and memorable. Glad to see he's still out and about.

Gary Neuman is an amazing artist- i have listened to him since I was 12 years old Back in the day and he still is a creative genius that keeps bringing new ideas and artistry that is unmatched today- so eternally grateful
You know what's crazy I'm only 27 but my dad was always playing Gary Numan all the time and constantly when I was growing up and still till this day I'll listen and there's no doubt I'll carry on listening even when I'm in my 60s/70s 😂
I grew up with this music as I left school. It’s timeless and so 80’s UK, cutting edge. I always loved music that was different. The beginning of the synth era and I was hooked. Thanks Gary 🇦🇺👍🙏
i for one am glad you took out the audience. moreover, this live release is exponentially better than the 80s release despite it being a timeless classic - well done my friend
A must see and best live performance of Cars: NIN backing Newman as their special appearance w/ Trent on tambourine -still under my skin. Newman in an interview spoke of having Aspergers and how it contributed to his writing. So damn humble, present and still everyone’s favorite resident alien.
That NIN video makes this one just seem dull. When you have Trent Reznor sweating his ass off rocking a tambourine, you know you have something special going on.
Wow this is just pure classic awesomeness ! His voice not changed ! Thei was the 2nd song I ever bought in 1979 when I was 7! First song I ever bought with pocket money was “Are Friends Electric” by Tubeway Army .... wow Gary ! You Rock ! Xx
I was born in 1972 and, sadly, I never knew much about him until the last few years. Love discovering his music now. Amazing how great he STILL sounds.
People today, still hear this and say: "oh it's that great song from the 80s"...not gonna lie, sometime around 2002 I heard this amazing song from an Apple iTunes (punk/synth rock) list recommendation with epic music from the 80s. It opened my door to the wonders of Gary Numan. I only heard this song on the radio when it came out (I was a baby two years old) maybe heard it again once or twice during my childhood. I'm glad I caught onto it, bought many Gary's albums because of it!! ❤❤
I thought I knew these melodies from somewhere it's sang by you Gary , I've heard this song ages ago but I didn't know who the singer was. Now I know Gary. Fabulous vibey song performance. I love it. 😄😄🙆🙆🎶🎶🎶🎶🎸🎹👍👍👏👏❤
Gary Numan is from the future .
As well as Martin Lee Gore 😅
This song was so cool in 1979 and it's still a kick ass tune in 2024.
His voice is stronger, more nuanced, perfect. So many rockers lose their range and clarity. He is fantastic.
This epic synth line still cuts glass. The goosebumps still there after 40 years, clearly one of the better synth lines ever put together.
It's as iconic as the opening bars of Beethoven's 5th symphony: repeats throughout. Same with the bassline. Two great rhythms in one.
beeep bopbop beep bop
44 years
45 and still cutting
It's the sound of the 80s making a Grand Entrance
Who ever mixed that is a genius. The bass dropped low. The synth. One of the best live versions of any song I have ever heard. Blown away 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Great review, the drummer is great too, he crushed it too here.

Well I am also a metal head but I love this stuff still have the LP and single from 79 😁

Funny thing is...I like it a lot more now than I did then. And I liked it then..
I can’t believe this guy is 66 years old and still kicking ass!👌😎👍👉❤️🦇

Great version, not what I was expecting. A cool updated take melding 80's synth with 90's and 2000's metal.
I’ve always thought it would be amazing to have him and Zakk Wydle get together for a live version of this!🤘🏻
43 years old song and still could be a song from today...fantastic artist, and fantastic music that never get old.
I remember back in 1979 when I was in middle school we had a jukebox in our lunchroom and I always praised anyone who played this song besides me! :p
Gary just rocks live ... I've seen him twice and nothing but the best from him... he lives to perform
the love for the world, is our love.
Does this guy ever age ? His voice is still awesome 👍👍👍👍
The whole song is an exclamation mark! So intense and close it almost hurts. Brilliant is not enough. It is simply the Song.

Sounds so much more powerful and rich played live! This could stand up to any track being released here in 2022!
