I know it’s kinda late to comment but pls read this. I found that if u just soak the seed in 2-3 minutes the skin will come easy of and you’ll be able just to use ur nails in then it takes about 30 sec to get the skin off
I just peeled an Avocado for a salad and it was not only already cracked, but there was a small, half in root growing from the seed and into the flesh! I looked up this video and am following the rest of the instructions. I hope this plant is as strong as the seed! ;)
I started my avocado tree about a year ago now and its gotten pretty big. My only word of advice it that even though they need lots of sunlight, heat can be a bit harsh on the plant if they aren't given enough water. Since my tree has gotten bretty big i spray it every other day with the hose generously because the leaves started turning brown when i put it outside for the summer. also, the thing about the light is important too if you dont want it to lean awkwardly to the side. I had to keep rotating mine at the window sill during the winter because it leaned toward the light and now it has a funny looking, twisty bottom. I think it looks fine but if you're picky then maybe a light scource directly above is better. (also as a side note, lemon trees dont need as much water especially when they're small. i lost 6/8 lemon sprouts/saplings because i didnt know this)
Thanks! Your presentation is way easier to understand than other videos; especially when determining which side of the seed is the top vs bottom .... We’ll give it a try!
Some avocado seeds take a little longer to germinate. I start mine in water just like you have but they don't always sprout in over a week or two. I had one that took about two months until it decided to crack open and send out a root so it was NOT dead but slower in germinating. So far it's doing well. I have it in a south-facing window as my florescent tube lighting fixtures are as high as they will get. NICE plants btw and I wouldn't mind getting the lights that you have. What wattage are they? Great presentation and thanks for sharing your plant knowledge! ;-)
Spinning it twice is the key!!! I'll have to try this one day. Simple instructions, useful tips, great visuals, and even the occasional joke :) Subscribed and looking forward to more videos!
I wrapped the seed in damp paper towel then a zip sandwich bag. Set & forget. Made roots and stem. I think that was more successful than any toothpick & jar prop.
How do you prune the leaves and when do you do it? Great video by the way! I have an avacado tree that's pretty tall. The main stem isnt that thick and I'm afraid it will fall over later on. It's like a long bare stem with some leaves on top.
@Techplant I was thinking maybe I just had the better window to start them in at my other home. After I moved out, I haven't had any luck! Lol I will definitely try your suggestion. Thanks 😊
By accident, because I had left the avocado seed out too long before planting it, I found that the brown outer skin will dry up. That actually made it easier to peel off. However, I do not know if that compromises the seed, by letting it dry first (usually seeds can go through a dry period so it would seem like it's ok, but who knows about avocado). Perhaps there can be a test of dry and without dry period and see. The other thing I found out is that the dry skin helps the seed stay moist/not dry up too much. I had a set of seeds with and without the skin, all while still not being planted yet. The ones without the skin had become soft and felt compromised, but the ones that had dried up but still had the skin on, still felt like hard seeds just like when it was fresh. Anyway, after all this, i see now that there is a sticky post saying just to soak the seeds for a few minutes and the brown skin layer can come off easily. I guess that will make it moot to let the seed dry out for fast peeling, hehe!
Nice observations and thanks for taking the time to post! For this video I just filmed what worked for me. but there are many other ways to get one of these to grow so keep experimenting thats my favorite part about this hobby!
What kind of Avocado would you suggest? I have heated so e need to be I herted ,after on, I don’t know much about them but would like to learn and will happily appreciate any advice you can give me on the avocado?
its best to replace water often, but im not a diligent man. so the foil helps prevent evaporation allowing you to change the water lessoften. just makes sure the seed doesnt dry out! Thanks for watching!
A week or 2 for the root to appear ???? what water did you put to the avocado ? I waited like 1 month for my first avocado to root, now for the autumn\winter part I waited like one month just for the avocado seed to crack a little o_0
this is hard, the water should be about at the "base" of the sprout, but sometimes its a fine line because too much water can cause the sprout to be too wet and die. but too low and the exposed root dries out.
probably 5 years, and thats if you are lucky. If you are serious about growing an avocado tree for fruit then its best to buy a good cultivar. becasue any seed you plant is playing the genetic lottery. When you buy them you are buying a clone of a known good fruiting tree.
whenever it starts to discolor or you get a film on the surface. Just remember to use non-chlorinated water! - side note i've seen people grow em in some pretty nasty water
I usually just top off the water, and every seed is different so its hard to give you a number, when you have a decent set up roots you can transfer it
those were 30watt panels, Dont get confused by amazon posts they claim 200 watts and stuff but you gotta look at the true wattage they draw from the wall. Anyways. the square ones i have were about 30Watts. So here in USA we get charged 13cents for 1 kilowatt hour. so 1000 / 30 = 33, so every 33 hours its on costs 13 cents. if its on for 12 hours a day 360 hours a month. 360 / 33 = 11 (because 33 hours is our 1 kilowatt hour) So 11 x $00.13 === $1.14 per month!
This depends on what kind of plant you want. If you want a nice strong bushy one, then id suggest pinching back the plant. But if you want a tall more tree like plant then just leave it be. Its up to you, both are good ways to grow it!
Put clear stuff over them to mimic a greenhouse affect. Your plants should have more growth in just a few hours. That’s what happened to my peppers and tomatoes. My peppers have about 1 month of growth but in just two weeks and it’s under a normal florescent lightbulb.

This may be late but I recommend putting them in a pot with soil and just forgetting about them before winter. However, it may not root so I recommend doing this a few times or with a bulb flower in the same pot just don’t forget to take the avocado out once it does sprout as they don’t do well afterwards in crowded pots. It’s worked for me so you can give it a try if you still want to grow them and even if the avocados don’t sprout you’ve still grown flowers! (Still water it don’t completely forget)

Best video for avocado growing from seed
best fan ever!
I followed your video and it worked , I currently have a sprouted seed with many roots in a jar of water. When do you recommend I put it in soil
once you start seeing the actual plant sprout growing upwards you can. Congrats on your success!
Avocado makes my mouth water.

give em time and light and they will get big too!
Do you still have the plant? It would be interesting to see how big it’s gotten since you posted this video.
sadly I do not, back then i was taking multi month trips to korea and my plants were under my parents care and that one sadly did not make it
Love your videos!!
The biggest thing I gained from this was a cheap grow light recommended by someone I respect. Thought any quarter decent light would be $100+ for sure
yeap
After you put the foil on will you have to replace water, and can I leave it alone from the start for 2 weeks without watering
its best to replace water often, but im not a diligent man. so the foil helps prevent evaporation allowing you to change the water lessoften. just makes sure the seed doesnt dry out! Thanks for watching!
hi did u change water if yes how often, thanks
I just top it off unless it gets moldy
A week or 2 for the root to appear ???? what water did you put to the avocado ? I waited like 1 month for my first avocado to root, now for the autumn\winter part I waited like one month just for the avocado seed to crack a little o_0
I should have been more specific, I meant more like it started to crack and you can see the main root starting
Aaaaa okay, I was like "what did I do wrong ???"
Its because he already had a crack in the seed.2:58
It also could be the temperature of the climate of the plants grow
Techplant, what can I use to peel seed besides the razor blade
What should be the level of water when first sprout appears, mine 1 sprout dried up even though having nice long root?
this is hard, the water should be about at the "base" of the sprout, but sometimes its a fine line because too much water can cause the sprout to be too wet and die. but too low and the exposed root dries out.
can I get this to grow nicely in Canada where I put it in the sun for about 10 hours a day?
yeah but once winter comes, the sun/light cycle will be too weak and short
@@TechplantChannel Thank you for replying so fast! So when winter comes, I should put it under grow lights right? Any tips on that?
Just wondering how long before it will bear fruit and will the avocado need another one for fertilization

Should I prune it after it grew?
you can if you want, just water less after a pruning because it wont be able to suck up the same amount like it used to
Why do i get rick and morty vibes with your voice lol

@techplant how many times should i replace the water from the container? weekly?
whenever it starts to discolor or you get a film on the surface. Just remember to use non-chlorinated water!

Really good video!
Can it be done indoors or out doors
mine are indoors

Amazon they have a huge selection
Is it need to change the water everyday how many days before we transfer in pot
I usually just top off the water, and every seed is different so its hard to give you a number, when you have a decent set up roots you can transfer it
Avocado! Avocado!
they are so cool right?
@@TechplantChannel extremely, i just put 5 seeds in water. Send me some rooting vibes please 🙏🏼
Does container needs to be transparent?
No, I just choose it so i can see easier at a glance
I changed my water every 3 days. Did I do it wrong? Should I keep the same water throughout?
change it if it gets dirty. just be careful not to use water with chlorine in it, it can slow the growth by damaging new growth
I actually didn’t have a razor blade so I used my food knife and hands to take the seed skin out and it worked fine and easy
Nice
Any idea what to do when my two avocados (70-80cm heigh) are losing leaves like crazy?
give it light and make sure salts arent building in the soil, try replacing it

Hi! Do you know when they'll be able to bear fruit??
3-5 Years sadly, if you want it faster you'd have to get a scion to graft onto your root base. its a nice ornamental plant though!
Can we grow an avocado plant in Indian soil?
hmmm, Im not sure where you live, India is pretty big with really dry places and really wet places it depends on which part of india you live in,

yes or under grow lights, otherwise it will be leggy
I think I might have put the seed upside down and it has cracked from the top. Should I flip the seed?

yes please! would sending you a picture through email be acceptable?

How is the tree now? Is it fruiting?

Is it safe to assume that the seed is dead if after 1 month of soaking there's no root coming out?
Hard to say, some take a long time others dont,
mine is 2 months old and it just sprouted a root
Remember to spin it folks!
Most important tip
I got an avocado plant which is about 30 years and its never produced any fruit do you know why
bad genetics maybe. is it outdoors?
Yes it is outdoors but i live somwhwere hot. Its probably the genetics. Thanks and do you know if getting another plant would help
