This version of Geese needs to appear in more dream games I feel. His Japanese robes are iconic, thats true, but this version of Geese's only appeared twice: Art of Fighting 2 and this game, overall criminally underused. I'd love to see Young Geese Howard in more games, at least as an alternate skin or costume in KOF XV if that ever happens.
@@denismedinanagorni8460 i think he went full weaboo when he killed Jeff Bogard and obtained the secret scroll thingy. I wonder whats inside that scroll? List of anime websites to watch anime?
This game only existed to test the capabilities of the Atomiswave-in a similar fashion that XII only exists to test the Taito Type R iirc-so it's actually impressive the level of blending the 2D and 3D elements. Unlike Capcom's CvS2 or SNK's NGBC port for XBOX 360, the characters' sprites blend nearly perfectly with the backgrounds, and you can notice this if you look at the character that's still on the ground whenever the other jumps; while in CvS2 and NGBC you can notice the character on the ground moving up and down in a very unnatural way, while in KOFNW you can see them in a constant position in relation to the BG's perspective. It is also worth noting how some stages are fairly well designed; you could put some of these in UNIST-giving them some minimal graphical updates, of course-and they would fit perfectly. As disappointing as this game is, it still had some achievements that are worth mentioning, even in 2020.
The stages are better than Kof 94 Rebout too. Anyways that was a random fancy stuff that the 2d fg companies started exploring in the early 2000s, that thankfully was abandoned even before the end of the 2000s. The game was indeed basically a new hardware showcase. The choice of the 3d stages aesthetics really tells us how that kind of trend, popularized mainly by Mvc2 and Cvs2, was growing in that time. Luckily it didnt reach Samsho 5 and Kof Xi...
There are other amusing short lived "trends" in graphics direction in fg history, probably because of random tech discoveries. Like a distinct period the fg companies get into not eye-friendly white flashes - notably in the Capcom side in Xvsf and Mvsf, and a little less in Sfa3. By Mvc1 that had almost totally already faded out (despite the use of crazy moving colors in other forms). It was literally vanishing along the late 90s. Another thing, in the Snk side, was a period they were into increasing flashing/blinking elements in the screen, and elements with a "fake" transparency effect. There was a lot of that around their 95-97 fg's - a special mention to the uncomfortable Samsho hp bars (which can be extra uncomfortable in recorded video).
Remember : Young Geese has th same hair as : _ master Tesshin ! the master of swords ! (Zelda : Minis Cap / Game Boy Advance) _ Shiden ! Kasumi's father ! I can't believe Neo Wave had Young Geese!! Those clowns that worked in Game Stop when it came out said it wasn't worth buying it was the same as the KOF of that year 🤬😎
Unfortunately, in that moment 3d graphics were more atractive than 2d ones for magazines and sites reviews. They said that Ninja Masters (1996) was a trash (from EGM).
They were right about the game though lol... But in the sense that the game isnt worth picking over 02 and 98 for example. There are more old Kof's that are better but I'm picking just these 2 classics to make the point easier.
Young Geese received the alvin and the chipmunks treatment of his voices but looks more believable than the kiddy voices of young characters. At least they used modern Geese 2003-XI-ish sounding voice from SVC Chaos. More better quality than the original real bout/96 voices.
Yeah I'm not feeling this Geese's voice. I much prefer the cheesy "Come on yellow belly!" for young Geese. His older self should still have the menacing Engrish he always had
Não, porque este é de AoF 2 e os pergaminhos são de Fatal Fury 3, onde o mesmo já está com as roupas de Garou Densetsu (FF). Neowave is a dreammatch like KoFs 98, 2002 and XII without history
I have this game, The sceneries are good but seeing the same sprites for over like 20 years made me mad, also the music is not bad but somehow forgotable (even in the other "mixed style" selectable in the options); Also once you finish the game there is not incentive to come back (you know, unlockables or something... anything!) But i can understand since is a port from Arcade and much fighting games fall this format. Too be honest if you want remember old SNK characters go directly to "The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match" for PS2, Heck even NEO GEO Battle Coliseum do a better job showing us new characters !
This game Was made to Test The Atomiswave Board that Snk Was going to Start Using In their Arcade Machines At The Time, That's Why This Game Is So Barebones
Neowave is Snk's counterpart to Capcom's Capcom Fighting Evolution as in "mid 2000s very barebones decadent title that should not have been made at all, so the company would at least not make their decadence/disinterest phase too evident". That was a peculiar period for both companies fg-wise, but especially Capcom (since Snk at least got Ngbc in their favor).
