Thank you so much fort this video, there is almost no information on the internet, so I’m very thankful that I found this video 🙏🏼 sending everyone strength
20 years ago, I asked my neurologist about catamenial epilepsy and he dismissed me, saying “do you only have them during your period?”. I said no, because I also had them in the middle of the month, but I knew nothing about the menstrual cycle and ovulation. Now I’m peri-menstrual and it brings up a whole new set of issues because my cycle is irregular.
Same here. Like I have seizures every month smh. Like their programmed to come back smh. Had a talk with neurologist about it. And nothings being done about it smh
I have always kept a diary and it shows that seizures mostly occur at the start n at the end of the cycle... I have been on clobozam for many years but I now take it twice daily 20mg a day. I asked my neurologist at my previous consultation being on so many medications keppra, Perampanel, zebinix and clobozam does that effect on how often a cycle occurs as I seem to be very regular 20 days ish but she was not aware of anything like that. Your videos are very interesting and full of knowledge thank you for taking extra time to make these n share on social media 😍😁 xx
My daughter get started getting seizures at 13 and we discovered it hapoens 2 days before or during menstruation and now she's on epitec. Sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't.
My seizures ceased whilst I was pregnant and breast feeding . The whole time of no periods I had absolutely no seizure whatsoever. I was 30 yrs old . I am now 42 and am nearing menopause where I find my epilepsy is becoming worse and unpredictable. I have kept diaries, I have made notes etc and studied my hormonal cycle. I did previously use Depo provera twice and I had no Deja vu, no epileptic seizures whatsoever , However when I tried Depo provera recently I found before I was due for the next dose , I had a grand mal seizure and I figured it may be because I’m becoming close to menopause . However I have been told to use Clobazam only if I feel a seizure coming on because it is a very high toxic drug for the Pancreas? Or liver ? So I’m desperate to have. A hysterectomy knowing this has worked for me so I can get back to living a normal life . I’ve been forced out of working , no more driving , and I live with my child and my dog which a doctor suggested I get , and I do t regret it because my dog will stick to me like glue when he knows something isn’t right
THANK YOU!!! I had my Seizures always from day 3 to day 5 during my period. I'm from Austria and here it's not easy to find the right doctor with the necessary knowledge about catamenial epilepsy! :'(
I had my first seizure as soon as I got into puberty and had my first menstruation. It's definitely medication resistant and nothing I've taken has helped against it.
I am 31 and since I got my first period I've had catamenial epilepsy. Now I have two daughters two under two and it's hard. Praying for your daughter 🙏🏻

Does estrogen in itself cause epilepsy/ seizures or does this only happen in women with a current diagnosis of seizures? I had epilepsy as a child and outgrew it during puberty. I’m about to get my last ovary out and they have me on estrogen now as I’m in perimenopause. I’m scared my epilepsy diagnosis will come back.
This is true, I have been dealing with CE for over 24 years. Taking more anti seizure medicine near my period does not help. Herbs, blueberries and rest.
Ladies, please try a carnivore diet - or keto. This is the only thing that has eased my seizures in my whole life - I'm 44 now, and have been epileptic since I was 5 and have tried everything. Carnivore - high fat, is the only thing that has stopped the seizures. Please try it ❤
@kimberly6200 it works. Please research it - carnivore diet. Vegan won't work, plant based won't work because our bodies need the nutrients from fatty meat and animal fat. I wish you well because I know what it is with these seizures smh..
Doesn't work for everyone. I've had catamenial epilepsy since a child and I'm 31 now and before I went vegan I was eating animal foods and I had more seizures. Now being 10 years vegan I barely get any seizures.
Im 48 and had a hysterectomy 2 years ago. Ive always had issues with staring for a few minutes before coming too and feeling better but 2 months ago something happened. I literally started having awareness seizures and had every test done and nothing found. Then found estrogen was really low and once i started Hrt they stopped
I’m 2020 I started having gran mal seizures out the blue. I am now 46 and my peri menopausal hormone changes cause me to have seizures during my monthly. Along with my menopause symptoms I also have to deal with seizures I am feeling like a zombie 😢
I was found out i had this type. i always track my cycle. Im no in pre opreative fase. Done the Pet, EEG, MR and nero testing. Next is the FMRI. ( the reason for my epilepsy is a scar (lesion) from megnites as a baby. i was healty until puperty. ( what is a intresting fact is that when I was pregnant i did not have seizurs!
Hi doc, I never had seizures in my life until last year October that placed me in ICU for a week and the doctors still don't know what caused it but they have me on Keppra and I am now off dilantin. It happened on my cycle so I am asking of non epilepsy patient can have this type of seizure?
Exactly, because I have a hormonal imbalance, pcos and I have seizures every month auras and seizures... had one febrile seizure at 2 years old. Skipped all the way to 2012 before I had another one and they haven't stopped. Smh
Can you suggest tests to get them to look into this? I tick all the boxes for c1 pattern and have been prescribed clobazam, now the NHS is refusing to take over the prescription because I went to a private doctor due to waiting times to see the specialist. I have been waiting for video telemetry results since August. They have the results, but no appointment to discuss them yet. I was at the hospital yesterday because I had 9 seizures, 8 partial, 1 tonic clonic. I waited 5 hours only to be 7th in line, not including everyone waiting outside in the ambulance, so we left at midnight instead because the sleep deprivation was getting to me and there was nothing they would have done, unless I had another tonic clonic one and got injured or reached the 5 min mark. I had 3 partial seizures there. No nurse checked in if I was ok. I cannot keep buying the clobazam out of my own pocket, but since I started taking it, was the first time since almost 3 years that my seizures stopped after the first one, and was the longest time I've fone without a tonic clonic seizure. I ran out 3 weeks ago. I don't know what to tell them, so they finally look into this.
Hello, I had seizure 3 times, from June to November 24,am 47 years old and am on anti seizure medicine now, all my tests, came back normal, do i have cataminial Epilepsy
My daughter has worsened when she starts to get in puberty that's was after 3 years. In September 2022 was her first period and after it's finished her seizures change and moved from day seizures to night seizures and her eeg changes too, before 2 weeks she had her second period and the seizures again moved to the daytime at noon. I'm very surprised and I don't know what to expect. If her seizures will change it after every period until she is in puberty?
Can happen to my child we believe she will have very soon period she is 9 years old and 4months, last week she had seizures for all week, We did MRT ALL GOOD. We did EEG SCAN COULD NOT PUT DIAGNOSE but they see Sam spike s in front left brain, from yesterday my daughter have temperature and she have stomach pain, my wife saying it’s looks like she will have a first period, Dr. Please help us 😔😭🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
hello! I'm 7months pregnant now, I had a seizure but sometimes I take half of 250mg a day only or sometime one take a day for 250mg of leve. may I ask if there's no complications for my pregnancy or my baby even I don't follow the right medication? thank you🙂
This is explained in depth in the video on epilepsy and pregnancy.. Most important thing is to take enough medicine and increase the levetiracetam because it drops a lot during pregnancy
Hello Doctor, I am suraj, I am 21, I am suffering from epilepsy or maybe seizures. In past few years I had 15 to 20 attacks.. Recently I had an EEG and MRI test, Doctor says it is normal so I asked the doctor how it is possible to get seizure without any abnormal activity in brain. He told me it is possible to get seizure without this. I don't know what to do, I have many doubts but I am ignoring it and just following the medicines which the doctor suggested me. Sir plz tell me is it possible to get seizure without any brain abnormality.
My daughter had seizures at age of 13 yrs while dancing, in Flashing lights, she was not put on any medication after evaluation with MRI, EEG, blood tests, She did not have any seizures for 14 yrs, she is a doctor, Pediatrician, she got her second attack during her marriage when she was 29 yrs, She was diagnosed to have JME, after doing EEG, MRI, Investigations, She was Fasting from morning till 4p.m, had her lunch at 4P.M.after half an hour She had Seizures, now the Neurologist has Put her on Levetiracetem, 750 mg bid, She is doing Fellowship in Neonatology She has to do night shifts, She is on medication now for 9 months and seizure free, Please advice
Glad to hear that she is doing well now...this is not medical advice or talking about a specific case... In general JME is a chronic condition and most need medications for life.. Triggers are explained in the video on seizure triggers to avoid.... Please discuss with your neurologist

I did as well. Peri menopause and post menopausal caused monthly seizures while sleeping and caused my heart to stop. Have a Pacemaker now.
Seizures are affected by menstrual cycle. Let me know how is your experience and if any treatment works for you.

Estrogen itself does not cause epilepsy.. Only provoke seizures in epilepsy patients... The other question needs to be discussed with your neurologist
