Hi Everyone, I was just reading through the comments and thought I would respond to many of the comments related to the reuse of MY old book. I appreciate the diversity of Love to Hate regarding this video. Clearly there are varying opinions on this video because I chose to repurpose MY old … well, BIBLE. Its true at the time I made this video, I didn't realize It was a BIBLE. Had I known at the time, I might have used another source of material instead. However, once it came to my attention, I did some soul searching. I even prayed about it. My bottom line is, as a Christian, I have Gods word hidden in my heart, I have Gods word on the tip of my tongue and now, during the holidays, I have Gods word hanging on my walls. I rehang it every year and quite frankly, It makes me smile every time I see it. The Bible is sacred indeed. I think its more about the heart and how you choose to live by it, than the actual pages themselves. For those who are offended, that wasn't my intent. I hope you can take the good from this tutorial and go from there :-) Best to you all, Rebecca Robeson

As I stated in my comment to your new Christmas video (which I love and cant wait to see more) I am a new subscriber to your videos. I keep watching them over and over. I think you are incredibly talented as a designer and have learned much and respect your talent. But I think with your response above I respect you even more. Like you, I have a Bible in my study, on my bedside table, even have the IPhone Bible App! What better way to celebrate Christmas than to have the Bible on your wall too! Job well done. (by the way, did a California coast tour last year and ended up in San Diego - Awesome city!)

Hey guys, I'm LOVING reading your comments. Its amazing to me how many people around the world are watching our Christmas Decorating videos and picking up helpful tips they are using in their own homes. Just so you know, I'm one of the few content providers on youtube (who has a large audience) who still takes the time to read all their comments. It means a lot to me to hear from so many of you. May God Bless each one of you this Christmas season! RR

Loved this wreath! ♥ I've saved this project to do very soon, going to a 2nd hand store to find me some old books :) And btw, it's in old norwegian, the bible used for your wreath! (the words are similar to old danish as that was our written language up until Norway separated from the union in 1814) I'm not offended in the slightest ~ you couldn't have known it was a bible, and in any case the old bible did get a wonderful new life as a wall decoration! ♥

Tindaloo76 You are so sweet. Thank you for not being offended :-) It was a shock to me when I found out it was a bible but I have come to peace with it and actually love the idea that the holy scriptures are now hanging on my walls at Christmas time. In hind sight, I think it would have been cool to select the pages from Luke that tells the birth of Christ. How cool would that have been :-) RR

As a former collectible book seller, I applaud your awesome art project. Contrary to what some may try to guilt you into believing, just because a book is old, does NOT mean it's valuable. Recycling an old book with no collectible value in a beautiful project such as this is a tribute to it, not a shame. :)

      Thank you +Jen Shepard,
I appreciate your perspective especially given your background. Its been amazing to me how sensitive people are about books... Especially old ones. At the time I made this it never occurred to me that I would get as much flack about it as I have. My personal opinion is, its MY book and I can do whatever I want to with it :-) Put it on a shelf, leave it in the garage or repurpose it into a beautiful object to enjoy during the holidays. No matter what the opinion is of others, I enjoy reading everyones comments. My opinion remains the same and today, it hangs above my fireplace mantle where the nativity is proudly displayed. I want to wish you and yours a very joyous holiday season this year! RR

+Robeson Design A perceived low collectible value of an antique book is only due to viewing a book as a market commodity and has nothing to do with its intrinsic value. There is a reason why German libraries, (I believe the book is Northern European and must have been one of a few belongings lugged by a poor immigrant travelling to America) spend hundreds of thousands of euros in carefully preserving books as old as the one you just tore up even if they are perused once in a decade. As a historian who has spent several years trying to retrieve manuscripts, newspapers and pamphlets that many owners thought were trash, this video causes me deep pain. I say this only with the hope that others are not inspired to tear up 150 year old books.

+rashna n I agree, i can t believe she just tore apart an ancient book and it doesn t matter in which language it s witten, she could have given it to the local library if she wanted to get rid of it....unbelievable

+Robeson Design AMEN I am beyond annoyed with these people that are giving you such a hard time. I have a booth where I sell antique furniture that I have painted and restrained. The finished products are beautiful and they sell quickly. The others that have booths around me that leave the natural wood are so rude to me and think that I am ruining the antique when in fact my items are taken into homes and cherished instead of being stored in a drafty old barn. It is an art. I think that the book is much better used as visible art and it is absolutely beautiful!! Haters are gonna hate!! I love this project and plan to do this tonight with some 150 year old music books that I bought at an estate sale. i will post a pic for you when I am done. xoxo

I really love your videos especially the Christmas videos they are full of new ideas and twists in colors, because on Christmas 2013 i bought a 6 feet artificially tree,we don't have natural ones here in Malaysia because it's very hot here, anyway, after that I searched for some videos to give me some inspirations for my new tree, my previous ones were very small. Then I found your videos, such elegant decorations since then, I started waiting for your videos eagerly every year to see your new ideas for each year, and my favorite was the chandelier video with Daniel and I liked the one in your house more as it got a mix of very attractive colors.
    Thanks and Merry Christmas

its sort of unfair to ask about my favorite Christmas video because I've picked out so many ideas and knowledge from them all, I've always floated ornaments like in the snowflake entryway and chandelier video but you took my thought process up so many levels in that idea to take how I was doing it and punch the level up a ton, each video you've opened my eyes into seeing things I use to take for granted as ok and showed me how to really bring up my decor from boring to glam (if only I can achieve those looks myself). I also use to do basic decorating a tree, maybe a few little things out but ...now I want Christmas in touches all over the house to bring the celebration throughout..instead of decorate around my normal decor (which is also pretty boring after seeing the things you do with decor) so putting away normal day and replacing with holiday...another lesson I picked up through your videos, so really I just want to thank you for all the changes in how I have always wanted to see things into seeing things and how I might can change them to getting those looks I've always wanted but had no idea how to see them and do them ..if that makes any sense....anyway, thank you and Merry Christmas

I am a calligrapher (Hebrew) and book artist; I make handmade books and also teach "Altered Books" to my students. We "rescue" discarded books from our local dump or church libraries, and we give them NEW life. Books which where published in bulk (by 1882) are not necessary to retain, as libraries will always have one or two. Not every old book is RARE, but every old book was valuable to someone in some way and deserves to end and be reborn in an artist's hands, to honor this most ancient way of passing information to the future. God forbid the grids go down--where will we be with out REAL concrete books in our hands, showing us how to rebuild? The art we make of books may be all that is left of them in some dystopian future! Norway is preserving a 'Seed Ark' out in the North Sea, to keep the future safe from GMOs and extinction; I wish there was the same for every book that ever saw life....

You know, I've read some of your comments and you joking about the bible thing. Not to offend anyone, but what more fitting book to make a Christmas wreath from. Especially when I see so many at the thrift store bound for the trash if they don't get bought up. I think it's beautiful to have pages of such a special book made into something so beautiful when you think about their fate otherwise. Music pages or a music book would also make a pretty wreath.

After reading more comments, the book may have had collectible value, but one cannot say without examining it carefully. Also, if every old book was kept, only a rare few would have collectible value. Scarcity is an important part of the formula. Bottom line - I still think your wreath is marvelous and I think having the scriptures on your wall is a great thing!

Hi, I had a suggestion: Instead of using an antique book, why not use an out-dated phone book? Brewing tea and lightly dipping the pages and hanging to drip dry is a great way to add that "aged" look. It's practical and you aren't destroying a beautiful work of literature in the process. Overall, i think your paper wreath is beautiful, but i think re-purposing an old phone book is a better idea, and less of a waste to the environment.

Contest Answer: I've watched so many of your videos and really can't decide which is my favorite but.....if I must narrow it down I will answer that this video is my favorite as it was the video that opened the door to all of your wonderful work. Each video has been a creative journey ~ a learning experience which is truly appreciated. What I really like is your concern about detail and how to make each task undertaken unique. Most people when they build a fence focus on the outside with little or no focus on the inside but your fence would be equally beautiful both on the outside and inside finished with the RR touch ! if you dont want to tear up old books why not use tea to dye paper that has been hand written or even music sheets with carols on it.... tea can make anything look old and antique

It is easy, worthwhile and a special memory. Thank you for the tutorial even a middle school student can follow. Thank you!

I just loved this project and just finished making my own wreath. I have it pictured in my profile picture. It has a few issues but all and all I'm happy with it. I didn't have time to find an old book so I used one of my husbands old school books. In order to age the pages I baked them in the oven at 300 degrees. I know parchment paper turns brown when you use it so I thought the pages would too. I did work, but I had to do a few over because they "cooked" to long. It's something you have to be very careful doing. I love these videos and really hope you keep doing them through the new year. I'd love to see some for Valentine's Day. Thank you very much for doing all of them. Have a wonderful holiday season!

I can NEVER EVER destroy any old books no matter how old and ruined they are and no matter what language it is printed or written in. If you want a brown color, just dip paper in weak tea and leave them out to dry.

contest answer: i love all the Robeson design videos especially the Christmas ones because it really set the mood for Christmas and there is nothing better than an early Christmas feel around you, so Thank you! because of your Christmas decorating videos it feels like Christmas! My favorite Christmas decorating video is the 'Christmas Decorations bows, Ribbons and Garlands- Christmas Tree Decorating' because it's full of tips, ideas, and suggestions for the viewers which makes it very interactive and decorating Christmas tree with garlands can be very difficult (for me at least!) and this video has helped me understand how to decorate my Christmas tree and gave me tips and ideas of what to put and how to put decoration on it without making it look like an explosion of Christmas balls! and the background music created the festive sense which really sets the mood for Christmas! :)

Why not use fake parchment paper from the office supply store? If you must have printing, use your imagination and fake old love letters or other correspondence?. Use different colors of ink, heck even berries for that real sepia color, big and round to small and crabbed.
I had to stop watch because the idea of destroying books makes me very upset.

The idea visually is Great, but NO...do NOT destroy an antique book for a freakin craft project!!! Such a crime. Use a copy or reproduction. I can't believe you destroyed a beautiful book from 1882 because diff. language. How ignorant are you. BAD DECISION. FUTURE GENERATION WILL Use this as example of one idiot back in the days when they didn't hold every book as valuable. Stupid...beyond disappointing. :(

Contest question answer: Honestly, my favorite Christmas decorating video of yours has to be your Christmas tree decorating videos. Before I watched your videos on tree trimming, my Christmas tree looked like a train wreck with lights. To this day, I take my tree decorating seriously as if the queen was coming to my house. my father and I were searching all over the place for the ornament spinners and seem to come out with no success. Although, your tip on putting twinkling lights inside the tree was very helpful to bring my tree to the next level. Thank you for your dedication to your subscribers I gives me the piece of mind that you will actually chose a subscriber that has a decent, meaningful answer for the contest unlike those other you tubers that chose randomly.

Hi, I love the project, and you are so fancy hehe, Actually I had done that kind of "wreath" with colored paper to use it as giant flowers, but when I heard you asking about ideas of materials instead of an old book, I just remembered once I needed that kind of "oldness" and tinted some new and clean paper sheets with coffee, so I did it once again, then I began to make the cones and when I had enough, took a lighter and made little burnt spots, I also burnt some of the edges, well, the rustic finish combined with the tragic burnt look really work for good! I hope you like this idea and maybe you could give it a try, I´m sure you will love the final product, congratulations for your Vlog.
