    Thats a nice little shower. I like how the shower and toilet are separate.
    This van looks more comfortable theny friends RV was.

    Good job with the filming. Thanks for taking the trouble to make this video. I'm researching living in a van, and all the info I can get is useful. This showed a lot. Thanks.

    Very nice camper van. I like the sit or stand shower set up away from the toilet.

    Nice fully enclosed bath especially given the size of the Class B, for sure I was expecting an isle shower for that Unit usually that year would've had an isle shower,thanx for the Tour...

      +Christopher Cruise You're quite welcome. I use the shower a fair bit and now that I've gotten used to it I can better deal with the cramped space.

    I also have a old ford falcon class b campervan. I like the interior of your van better. I like the bed in the back. My bed is in the middle. Thanks for sharing.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  9 лет назад +4

      Christy Cappello You're quite welcome! The problem with the bed in the back is it's limited in size by the width of the van which makes it unusable/uncomfortable for taller people.

    Sir, what a pretty well-made video of your home in wheels. I very much like the size and scope of what your camper is able to provide in terms of necessities, luxury and comfort features. I like this model of Dodge van and especially like that the toilet and shower are separate. I myself would love to have a set-up like yours. I like your presentation, candor of your delivery and your good-natured explanation on your camper.

  • @raysills
    @raysills 8 лет назад +10

    Very nice camper. A lot of good features, and even though it's a vintage vehicle, it certainly looks nice and clearly is doing the job for you. Pleasure Way seems to make good products.
    This camper has all the basic things one might need... something to think about when looking at campers. You don't always need the "latest and greatest". Solid and reliable is just fine in many cases.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  8 лет назад +8

      I was on an RV lot a few weeks ago to look at the new class B's and I have to say I don't care for them. The boat manufacturers seem to have been updating and improving their ergonomics every year, but the the class B RV guys aren't getting it.

    What an excellent and thorough tour of your wonderful camper - your camper van has everything one would need and want for living, and you have it organized and decorated very nicely - very neat, tidy, well organized, and comfortable. We love to camp, and I really appreciate the tour and the thorough and great description of the appliances, storage, solar panels, the water dumping, vents, hoses, and everything inside and out, very helpful to me and my family. Love the idea of the storage container and footrest also. This camper van is a real winner, and as my family and I get more involved in our camper and camping hobby, we will be back often for more of your great videos and tips for our camper. We started with tent camping, then had a class A that we loved but couldn't afford, and now have a Rockwood pop-up that we refurbished like new and have been using for several years. We are looking to graduate to a class B camper van in the near future. It is the best of all worlds, and I would love to live in one full time and see the world. Thanks again for this most enjoyable video and channel - we have liked, subscribed and we plan to watch all of your videos tonight. Best wishes to you from Mrs Ginny and family.

    Again, great vid. Just watched all your boat vids and left a comment. I'm looking at a 30 steel Tahiti gaff rigged ketch. I already have a class B motor home, much like yours. Mine's a 1991 Ford F 250 with a Coachmen camper. 351 V-8. Bought it two years ago and have been re-doing it. Love it, can drive around town like a regular van and easy to park. Used to have a 30 fr Class A. Never again. Thanks for the vid, enjoyed and good luck with your "B".

    That large separate shower is awesome! I personally find wet baths kind of yucky.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  8 лет назад +7

      To be honest wet baths are ok if you keep on top of cleaning them. My sail boat had the shower and "toilet" combined and I gave it a quick wipe down every time I used the shower and it was fine. I sort of begrudge not combing the two to save space in the RV, but yes, the sit-down shower in the RV is opulent compared to what I had on the boat. It's nice being able to soak my feet after a long day.

    Nice vid! Right wear the Mr. Buddy is located u could put in a one cubic foot mini wood burner. It mounts on the wall. Down size all those clothes and make partially the front nose above the cab an herb garden. That's what I would do. Hope your still traveling! Happy trails

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  7 лет назад

      Thanks! I installed a Dickinson Newport Gas fireplace where the Buddy heater was located. I seriously considered going with a wood burning appliance, but I need some thing that turns on and off fast so gas won out.

    I am looking at a Dodge handicap van right now. I would sure like to get in touch with you for the interior layout. It's got the same basic shape including the top. Minus the windows. I was thinking the same thing about the front windows. They take wind and abuse. I am going to use the wheelchair lift as a slide out shower/toilet. But the rest of the van I was going to build pretty much like yours. Thanks for showing us one of the best desinged class B van's out here.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  6 лет назад +2

      Hey there, if you want to get in touch with me go to the main page of my channel and then go to the "about" tab. It has a mailing address and if you click on "business inquiries" you can get my email address.
      I think your plan is a very good one. I have some ideas for building my next RV and I've started doing a "rough draft" using my 5' x 10' cargo trailer. So far I've only installed the solar setup and now I'm getting parts and ideas to get the rest put together. The reason I'm doing this is it seems no matter how much money I throw at a newer RV, I'm not going to like it. Even if I spend $150k on a newer class B, the RV is going to be absurdly heavy, have too many windows, and it's only going to be suitable for weekend excursions in nice weather. Honestly, I think building your own is really the only way to go if you have some backyard mechanic skills.
      There's a youtuber with the channel name of NØMAD who has a brilliant way of doing some of the cabinetry which I think I'm going to try out. One of my big concerns is keeping the vehicle weight down, and his method is ideal. Give it watch if you get a chance.

    nice motor home I have just brought another boat to do up but now it turns out I might have to move to a smaller place so I might have to sell my boat! so I am now thinking of getting a van and converting it to a basic rv with kayaks on top for my fishing trips :)

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  9 лет назад

      +my boat, motorhome and fishing adventures If you have the place, tools, and ability to convert your own van it's definitely the way to go. Anything readily made, such as my RV, is a package of compromises that you make work. Another advantage of converting a van is it's stealth ability as long as you don't get too crazy.It's my long ambition to find a big 4wd van and make it into a an awesome cold climate bush buggy that can handle the trails/snow and have the power to pull a quad or motorcycle trailer. Someday.

    I can see myself in a camper or tint home with a Kimberly wood stove. They are so expensive but the most efficient ones. They can burn up to 8 hours on a single eco wood log.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  9 лет назад

      +Eric St-Louis While it's very aesthetically pleasing, I'm not a fan of the Kimberly. Even the crudest wood burning stove is efficient if you set it up right. Wood goes in, ash comes out. Considering the Kimberly wood stove would run approx $5000 here in Canada I can't justify purchasing one unless I win $5 million in the next lotto 649. Even then I probably wouldn't because I feel it's a ridiculous sum of cash for a container that you burn wood in. Then again, I would happily pay $5000 for a precision rifle only to use it to put holes in 8"x11" sheets of paper, so you can take my rant with a grain of salt. Cheers!

    I have a Class C and what I do for the black water tank is when going to the bathroom I place plastic bags in the toilet and bag up solids. Simple and quick, toss them in a covered container and when I do get into town toss in the trash. When camping like you are out in the woods I have no problem urinating in nature. That saves a lot of water and keeps the black water tank free for over flow from grey water...or as you suggest, dump that. I never have black water tank issues because it's simply not used for solids.

      it is legal everywhere in the USA to dispose of human fecal waste as long as it's in a contained trash bag and disposed of in public trash container. Like diapers, they are human waste and are legal to toss in the trash. Adult diapers as from nursing homes go in the trash. Human waste is legal to dispose of by simple means than plugging up the black water tank trying to flush in a dump station.

    I have to ask you a question. You said you have two batteries that are separate. So one is for powering everything up inside your rv while your not driving and not hooked up to electrical at a park. How many things can you power and for how long? I'm trying to figure out if I live off grid like you (without solar panels) I could go for watching tv or playing xbox or something like that. I guess what I'm trying to say is for like day to day use. Would it be like a remote? Use up all the battery and charge it up somewhere after it drains? Thanks!

      Good question, and I should probably do an in depth video talking about electricity requirements, but for now I'll hit you with a wall of text!
      Most household appliances use quite a bit of power as they are not really designed for efficiency. Running an xbox and a TV would probably kill a pair of batteries in about 2-3 hours, so if you want to live off grid then you are going to need to figure out how do it without any sort of 120 v household electronics. Is it doable? Absolutely. Would I want to do this without solar panels? No way! I run an IBM Thinkpad (efficient and super durable laptop), a C. Crane WiFi antenna, and occasionally a Netgear 4 disk NAS with 12 TB half full of stuff for rainy days. I wouldn't do this without them and I have backup replacements for all three.
      I guess what I'm saying is don't do this without solar panels unless you're one of those people who doesn't have/want a cell phone. When I first started living in my RV full time I had a single 100 watt panel. At this point I have 320 watts. I have learned that if you buy your solar setup as individual components from a wholesaler, rather than as a kit from an RV dealership/retailer you can save a fair bit of cash.

    Hi!
    Nice Video!
    I've learned a lot from Justin CredibleTV, here on RUclips and one of the things I've learned is the Kimberly Woodstove and Thermal Electric - I'll get the link for the Kimberly for you for your info 😁

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  7 лет назад

      Thanks for the comment but no, I don't see the Kimberly as viable. I did look into them (Kimberly) back when I was living on my boat but I felt it was massively overpriced for a wood burning appliance. Spending three to five thousand dollars for a wood stove is not something I would do; honestly I'd be far more likely to purchase a gen set, tig welder, raw materials, and build my own and still come out much less than what a Kimberly would cost.

    If you get yourself an axe, get one that has an steel head infused with the steel handle with rubber cushioned handle , so no wooden handle breaking. I would get a portable finish made camp manual saw for fire wood cutting, this would serve you for most services , you really would not need to carry a chain saw and have to worry about storage of also the fuel and oil etc. I used .annual tools all my life, also, by using manual tools, helps keep your joints more flexible, less atheistic, more health wise. Also carry with you portable snow car folding shovel or army folding trench shovel. Good luck sir, on your travels. Kevin Phoenix.

    Excellent video. I enjoyed the tour. I hope to be RVing Fall of 2016 if all my stuff gets sold.
    Tell me, do you have a small ceiling fan in the shower? I like that the toilet was separate from the shower so you don't trip over the damn thing in a small spaced shower stall. My intention, in the RV I buy, is to make a composting toilet if there's room which would eliminate black water and would lower weight.
    After much consideration I've decided to get a class B like yours; have seen them with very low mileage and reasonable price, so hopefully they still exist when I'm ready. Well thank you again, for the tour, ciao. lol.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  9 лет назад

      +trumpsahead No, I do not have a fan in the shower so I have to make sure I vent moisture out with my Fan-tastic vent after the shower. I also always sponge out excess water when I'm done so everything dries quick and it stays clean.
      Dealing with black water isn't such a a big deal that I would change the system to a composting, nor would I bag solids. I can dump grey and black water and fill fresh water in the space of 5 min. I typically dump black water once a week but I can leave it for 2 weeks without any problems. When I'm boondocking I don't use my fresh water supply to flush, I use jugs that I fill with water from wherever is handy; streams, deep puddles, the ocean etc. Considering the weight of an RV I think the weight difference between composing and black water is insignificant.

      +trumpsahead You can try the website I use www.rvdumpstations.info or you can ask at a local RV dealership as they have good info on the local area facilities. Some of the RV sales and service businesses will also have dump stations. Honestly my biggest concern is finding potable fresh water as I shower every day so I'm looking to top up every chance I get. Many gas stations have spigots on the pump isles that you can use if you ask nicely and you're late/early enough that it's not busy.

    i actually like the set up of the toilet and shower area being seperate it gives a much nicer shower/tub area i think .and its nice to be able to keep the bed always in the sleeping position. i think its a very practical van for its age only thing is having to go outside to turn on the water heater isnt always ideal , have u ever used the front bunk for sleeping ?and does it stay fairly warm inside during cold weather??

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  7 лет назад

      For the past year I decided to mostly leave the water heater running all the time and only turn it off when filling the propane tank or going on the ferry. The cost to leave it on all the time is about 5lbs of propane per month; so I decided it's not worth turning it off and on.
      No, I've never slept in the top bunk. It' would be really really cramped and a pain in the neck to get in and out of.
      If it's really cold I leave my Dickenson Newport running on low all night. I also partition off the front section and have insulation (Reflectix) fitted over all the windows due to the amount of cold transmitted the single pane windows.

    I really want to live in a class B rv. My only challenge is I CANNOT live without AC during the summer while sleeping. Minimum I gotta have AC for 10 hours (I dont sleep that long, but I like to wind down after a shower before bed. Can a solar panel keep an AC unit running all night long during the summer? What about those gas generators that a lot of the class A's and C's have?

      If you have enough solar panels and batteries, sure, why not. Justincredible is a RUclipsr that lives in his RV over on the mainland where it gets much much hotter. Search his RUclips video titles and see if he has anything on his power/AC setup. If not ask and see if he'll give you some tips.

    Thanks for sharing. Since you owned a boat, is there a product you can recommend to protect the fiberglass top from UV and the elements? Some high performance boat wax or something more permanent.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  9 лет назад

      VanoRama RV I can't suggest anything permanent; when I had my boat I would wax it every six months. I can't remember the brand I used but I do remember it was a marine grade product of some kind. The fiberglass top on my RV is painted unlike the gel coating of my boat so I haven't felt the need to do anything with it.

    • @vanoramarv4193
      @vanoramarv4193 9 лет назад +1

      Van Isle Gunnut OK, thanks. I was hoping for a permanent type coating. I don't want to wax the roof all the time, but what's that compared to waxing a boat, ha.

    I would look on RUclips, Pinterest (your best option imho) or Google for ways to organize small spaces/kitchens. You're missing basic essential organizing supplies that I use in my big kitchen. For instance, dollar store magazine racks or office organizers can be installed to the inside of a cupboard door to hold all your plastic sandwich bags & other Glad/Hefty boxes. That whole shelf could've been cleared off. I also use metal racks in my shelves to better stack things. The possibilities are endless.

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  7 лет назад +3

      My "kitchen" looks a bit different now. I've been living in my RV for quite a while so I've reduced my kitchen down to what I consider essentials: 1 pot, 1 fry pan, 1 plate, 1 coffee mug, 1 soup mug, a roll of tinfoil (for baked potatoes in campfire!) and misc utensils. That's it.

    Nice looking rig. I recently bought a 10 year old RoadTrek, which looks very similar. Mine is built on a Dodge Sprinter van, so it is a bit narrower than yours. Also, yours is a 350, and mine is only a 250. But mine seems to have plenty of power, and I get 28+ miles per imperial gallon of diesel. Where on the Island do you hang out? I do not live full time in mine ... have a house here in Victoria.
    Cheers .... Charles

    • @ScaredStupid
      @ScaredStupid  9 лет назад

      charlesgmorgan Thanks! The RoadTrek is an outstanding unit. Is the 250 diesel the 5 cyl Mercedes? The engine in mine is a 318. I usually hang out North of Duncan but I'm in Victoria a fair bit getting my mail and visiting my brother.

    • @charlesgmorgan
      @charlesgmorgan 9 лет назад +1

      Van Isle Gunnut Yes, I believe it is the 5 cylinder ... it is definitely a Mercedes engine. I used to have an old Dodge truck with a 318 engine ... really good engine in my experience. +woollie I don't have room to permanently mount a second, though I do carry around a spare 20 lb portable. I find that even using the furnace in below zero temps, the water heater on all the time, and my daily cooking I'm using about 10-13 lbs a week so I'm good for 2 weeks or so.
