This is our LAST episode in French Polynesia for a while, and it's a pretty fun/sentimental/crazy one if I do say so myself. After 15 years on a monohull, we're finally making the switch to a catamaran....but funnily enough we've actually spent an incredibly small amount of time on catamarans. We've done little sails here and there, we've certainly partied on them a time or two (*coughs* ahemmm, PARLAY 🙈) but we've never properly lived on one and gotten a feel for what day to day life is really like. So we figured it was time to change that, and what better chance to do it then to hang out with our friends Warren & Erica on their boat Va...and what better place than Bora Bora!!! So join us for the experiment as we dip our toes into life on two hulls, it's gonna be a goodie!

So cool that Sierra is old enough to begin going along on an easy snorkeling mission! So many wonderful things for her to experience for the first time.
Howdy Delos! I retired today and my search for a boat begins soon! I’ll be visiting Puerto Peñasco and Puerto Vallarta in my initial search. My children will be helping with the search! Can’t wait to see how your build progresses!
Fair winds and following seas!
There's a few boats for sale here in Penasco. Hope your search goes well!
"Where's the shade Warren?" Gotta love Sierra!
Mic DROP 🎤
She told Warren, that suns to hot. Lol
Only from a child living the boat life.
I don't think other children her age even play outside any longer. She is living the BEST LIFE 🩷🌊🦈
Sierra's little "and cut!" and hitting the camera outro is too precious!!!! So excited for DELOS 2.0!
I can't wait to see build progress.
Welcome to Bris and Straddie, little colder than Bora Bora currently but we hope you settle in well and enjoy your time here during your build. Looking forward to watching the journey until you're back on the blue.
It is wild watching two of your fav sailing channels, each from when they first started, have now become best friends in front of your eyes. Great for you both, fantastic for Sierra to be around two more amazing adults enriching her life experiences. Well done Delos and VA. Cheers and fair winds
I think you guys unlocked a new level of chill, sailing on a catamaran
We're pretty stoked about catamaran life too! Can't wait to be bouncing on the trampoline and having spa days on Delos 2.0!!!
I hope Nugz gets to visit Wawwen & Ewica again real soon. I love how you bring out everyone’s inner child, Nugz.
Keep using that unicorn magic, little sistar 🌟
What a great episode. Love that snorkel drift. 🤩
Man, that beach on Bora Bora and the scenery. It makes me smile to know such beautiful places are out there... 😁😁😁
Warren getting spoken to about the shade on the trampoline ...she is growing up soooo fast
Excited for this next chapter. Last week I kept thinking how many times over the years I have watched your haul outs. Thank you for sharing the memories with us!
I feel like I met you guys during covid by binge watching past episodes. You were living the sailing life while I was building my 4x4 land yacht. I did solar and lithium power so close to your conversion that we both have been living off grid the same amount of time. Congrats on your next adventure to build an aluminum Cat! I look forward to seeing your build progress. Cheers from AZ desert. I get to escape to a wonderful water adventure with every episode. Thanks!
Nugget at the end of the vlog … priceless. Good luck with the build it will be worth all the highs and lows in the end. You could probably still have a similar electrical system for your sails on Delos 2.0
I find it amazing that all these ships were built in one part of the world or another and then go on these enormous journey's with relatively little technology reltatively routinely. Amazng stories. Considering the age of that wreck it's in really good condition! Be careful talking to people in air pockets - they're usually from exhaled air from divers but as the ships rust/decay they can use up the oxygen in them, if the mixture is hypoxic oxygen will actively diffuse the opposite way through your lungs and youi'll very quickly black out...
Just a little google about one from my backyard ;-)
The iron barque Nordby with skipper H. Christiansen was in the archipelago of the Company Islands in French Polynesia, where on 20 August 1900 it sailed from Tahiti 200 km to the northwest to the coral island of Raiatea, to complete the cargo of 120 tons of copra destined for Liverpool.
The next morning the ship arrived off the inlet to Raiatea, where a pilot's flag was hoisted, but no pilot came out and after some waiting the ship nevertheless sailed in through the passage and went to anchor. Ballast was thrown out under a stiff east-southeasterly storm and current, whereby the ship, however, drifted and ran aground on a coral reef.
From the following day, every effort was made to bring the ship afloat, to which part of the crew from a French warship contributed, but when the ship slipped from the reef on 26 August, it sank in deep water, whereby both ship and cargo were lost.
The wreck was sold for 420 francs.

Loved this little bit of history and connection to Fanø where my grandfather was born in 1902, although he was born in Sønderho! My grandfather sailed all around the world himself, finally ending up in San Francisco, and then eventually Seattle, where we live today! We love going back to Fanø whenever we can!

Coffee engaged. Friday off and rolling!
Yes! Happy to help you kick off the day, hope you enjoy this one 🙌
"how many times have you sailed a catamaran?" "maybe a dozen?" you'll be fine lol
Back up a bit he said he could count the amount of times he sailed a catamaran on his fingers and toes....I really don't want to see his feet if it is a dozen
My husband had sailed small hats and then Mahal’s ranging from 22 feet up to maybe 40 with others on board of course to help then we were asked by some friends to captain a 60 foot catamaran in the BVI for four couples that go to someplace in the Caribbean each year for their vacation we were ecstatic of course, immediately said yes he had never sailed anything that huge before but he is a very skilled sailor and we went through a training course about all the electronics on board lol……… Turned out to be an amazing week! We went snorkeling every day, had two divers on board and their dive spots were pre-programmed into my husband‘s handheld marine GPS ……we had the time of our lives hopping around to all of the different BVI islands !!!
@@CaptainKevHaurakiGulfThey together make up 20. So 10 fingers and two toes.
YAY!!! My Friday fix,, Thanks Delos!! Love you guys!!
Thanks so much Cody, lots of love back at ya 🥰
I feel that Delos quality channel is returning to it's original level, obviously without taking anything away from Blue and Bryan because I miss them dearly. Your move to a Catamaran is a great one. Love, OsoYolo, Antigua Guatemala.
I think you mean Blue and Brady !!
An AMAZING end of an era! Brilliant perfection on Bora ❤🎉what a life! Congrats!!!!
Found you from the “Exploring Alternatives” video. Then we binge watched, starting at season 8 until now. Exceptional work on so many levels. So glad to of found you, learn about sailing and all the beauty cruising life brings.
I smiled when you said sweet downwind non-Rollie sailing. The advancement of technology I am the last generation that knows how to double clutch a Porsche and they gave me a big smile when you mentioned downward sailing rolling because I had forgotten that because I haven’t sailed in so many years. Riding the rollers between Saint Thomas and St. John up towards Yost Van Dyke are as much fun if you’re good at and love the art of canceling rolling as can be had. The fetch is 400 miles. Through a four mile gap. On an average day they’re 12 feet. I’ve also sailed an Amel. I took a shift headed east from the USVs to St Martin. I don’t know it would behave downwind. Pointing and reaching I found it to be sluggish and a big rocking horse compared to my Beneteau. I don’t know whether while surfing that would inure to your benefit. Or not. My takeaway from my 12 hour passage was that if I were going to live on a sailboat it would be an Amel. Even if I needed a crew member.
Good Luck on the new adventures and welcome to Sunny Queensland for as long as you are all here for, I can't wait to see the progress on the Catamaran,
Thanks so much for the well wishes Andrew!
I guess if u r a sailing traditionalist and your priority is in the feeling a monohull gives you as you are heeling over and cutting thru the waves, then your new boat will be a monohull. The cataraman seems to have more pluses than minuses in the comparison of the two. For a family with a Sierra, I would think you would be leaning toward a cataraman which, foot for foot, would be a more expensive boat. Can't wait until you reveal which direction you go and then decide on the boat and introduce her to everybody......... gonna be fun! Thanks for allowing us to tag along. BTW, you seem to keep great friends..... Warren and Erica were delightful!
That decision was revealed long ago... it's been discussed several times in the last 6 months or so, the name of this video is "Why We’re Building A Catamaran"... there is no secret to reveal, other than seeing the progress so far.
I’m so excited for the next chapter and build of your cat!
Gonna be fantastic...... Exciting.... Change is as good as a holiday....
Hey you three, I've been watching for about 3 years now but this is my first comment here! I'm 19 years old and am just now really getting the taste of life outside school. I just wanted to say a big thank you, you guys are a big inspiration and great role models! Enjoy your week!
It's so good that the whole family is snorkeling together☺️ Your videos are always highlight in an otherwise dull week. Good luck on the new boat.
When running deep we run a 3rd wide sheet for the Genoa aft and down to the toe rail. It keeps the sail full and away from the spreader. You can do the same with a barber haul or tweaker. Some cats run another sheet from the Genoa clew forward to the bow to really brace it. Can't wait to see your new boat.
I don’t have a prejudice either way… I like both.
I want to live aboard… if I can get together a big enough budget, then for me cats tick more off the list.
For me a mono would only be a cost option.
And if you want that mono buzz take an old Laser with you… room on the catamaran deck.
nuggs is living her best life ever with that trampoline :)
She's a trampoline fiend!
Need to say thank you so much... You guys gave me a time out & a little soul searching being very depressed just finding out one of our biker girlfriend found out the pain in her back is stage 4 cancer.... I bring this up not to bring anyone down, but to say don't wait to explore set out living a life that fits who you are. you alone come & go in this crazy world so make the best of it.. Thx Delos for years of places, people & growing with you as the pass 11 years....has giving us a place to be~ peace,,, love ya y'll ..

Hey buddy- So sorry to hear about your friend. That’s a damn shame…. It compels me to think about how much our health means and to seize each and every day. Thank you for following along with us for so long and sending lot’s of good vines your way.
@@svdelos Always give the hugs, never say goodbyes, like you say~ see you later.. thx
I am excited for you guys! You have spent a lot of years on a monohull and now that Sierra is here, the space will be so wonderful and like you said you don’t have to step down into the cabin anymore as you will be living on top with beautiful surrounding views. I totally get though how you are more “one” with the ocean when you’re underway, you are feeling more of what’s happening between vessel and the sea. I think you are making a good change. SO EXCITING,!🌊❤️
Thanks so much Gina, yes we feel exactly the same! Of course we will miss some things about Delos but overall the change will be so good for all of us! Thanks for following along the journey and sharing in the excitement with us 🥰
I'm glad that you three had such a good time on VA with friends. Sierra's going to make a great sailor one day! I think that you'll love having your own cataraman. You probably already have considered the negative aspects of aluminum (or "aluminium" as the Brits say it!), however, Brian: #1. Because it doesn't flow through those waves like a monohull, it can be noisier as it slams into the waves. #2. Corrosion will be a problem; you'll have to figure out just how to use a more reactive metal (like zinc) as a sacrificial anode -- and that's going to require constant attention. #3. Metal fatique will be a danger: aluminum doesn't flex well at all (a minimum deformation limit) so will eventually break. #4. It won't just be difficult, but more expensive, to put on some kind of antifouling agent on aluminum -- it's easier to do on fiberglass. Good luck! And I look forward to following you into your sailing future! 👍🤟🏻
The interior shots from the wreck went above and beyond 😊
You guys look so healthy and happy and relaxed. Love it
My two favorites of all time. Delos and WE Sail! You gotta get back together at some point! Love you all!
I don't know much about sailing but i have followed you guys for a few years now. All i can say is. If you can afford it, get a catamaran. Its alot more spacious and stable. And with the little one growing up, you can definitly use the space. Also..... From the bottom of my heart i wish to thank you for your videos Brian, Kazza and Sierra! I found your channel when covid just started and your weekly video's (especially around the "Two Titty Yaught club) actually helped me get through the lonely times that were covid for alot of people (myself included). I wish we could meet up one day and have a few cold ones! Thank you so much Delos crew!
These are really some beautiful pictures from your trips and inspiring people to do this The sunset and cooking of Mahi Mahi was a perfect ending of that evening.
Wow! Amazing snorkel vid! And OMG, that sunset on Bora Bora...OUtstanding episode, guys!
Great buddy boat / friends to hang out with! Love the extended family we get watching you guys. Sierra is just tooooo much fun LOL
We think so too, they are the best and we miss them so much already!
Looked fun!! I'm excited about this next chapter for you all. 🥳
Really interesting - keep thinking about this as an approach, so I'm glad you're trying it out for me! I do aspire to a Dazcat!
Man! That was a great cliffhanger! Can’t wait for next week, and the adventure beyond! Great episode!
Wow, Warren and Erica are wonderful, and their catamaran is beautiful. Sierra is so adorable and happy. Health, wealth and success to you all!
I watch these videos and see far away places I will never see for real... Week after week and then you show an airport I've been at... That was cool!
Oh that's so cool! The world is a very big and also very small place!
Hi Brian. Thank you for all you guys do and share! I'm very excited to see your Delos 2.0 boat build details. I'm an engineer who know nothing about boats, but I had a thought regarding the wave slapping issue on the flat connection between the two hulls. The force of the wave slap that translates into the jolt and noise is going to be a function of the speed of the wave contact and the surface area the wave hits all at once. If this connection was an arch instead of a flat surface, as the wave rises, the contact would happen over a longer time and the final crown of the arch would be a much smaller surface area which should result in a much smaller jolt and noise. Even if the hull is already built with a flat connection, I am thinking a "false" hull arch could still provide a large improvement in the wave slapping issue. Maybe this is obvious and something you already considered. Best wishes.
23:49 what a beautiful lifestyle you are modeling for Sierra.
Im thrilled she has parents giving Sierra an expanded view of life
That sewing machine looks amazing! I personally can see you guys another mono-hull ... just way bigger. 150+ foot, triple-mast, engine room with a machine shop, massive crew, dive launch ... Brian you the captain bro!
And the new adventure/dream begins 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 This is going to be fun 🎉
Your videos are always the highlight of this old mans weekend. You guys absolutely rock.....Love ya all.
You're going to miss Delos forever I think even as you enjoy your new cat. The boat gave you memories of a lifetime. Wonderful video, esp Sierra and Warren and Erica's friendship on display. That little one of yours has got some serious personality. ❤
Loving the underwater shots of the amazing reef fish. So beautiful.
Thats a great idea. Just like sailing or boating in general, if you dont have experience get some. Great video.
That teasing at the end was a crime!
Love you guys, excited for the new project. A bit sad that Delos is now mostly the past but she will always be remembered.
I love the love ❤️ hahaha, hope for the future. I hope to live this life one day and this is what I see in my mind. Thanks for bringing me along Brian, Kaz, and nug! It's so fun to be with you. I know it's taxing, but the joy yall bring to the world is priceless. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
You guys should be so proud of yourself for coming such a long way! Great job, and thanks for brining us with you. Cheers to all your next adventures friends!!
the only problem with cats is when wind gets under them it can flip them and we are not going into an era of calm weather... it will only get worse, so you will have to be more diligent with weather watching in advance enough to get out of the way
Name the last time a cat flipped in the wind! With twice the speed you can outsail squalls and storms by going around them, you cannot do that at 6kn.
@@RUclipsr-k2p HURRICANE BERYL and they were in a "hurricane hole"
Omg, just think, no more getting sea sick, or atleast alot less chances. You guys are gonna love it, and I think it will make for some great content. So happy for you guys
That for sure, but with those changes comes new challenges, sailing a Catamaran is a different game over the old boat.
It will also handle dangerous conditions differently, it'll be a learning curve for sure.
@@celticlass8573 indeed, but... as Brian mentioned you need to approach specific situations differently, if you don't then those situations could become a problem.
@@NapFloridian What challenges? It's a sailboat.
Wow that coral looks amazing!!! So healthy! Wonderful to see!
I was sailing a 37' Hunter. After 6 years of cruising half the world, I decided to get a bigger boat (new family needed room). I decided this on our first sail with our baby boy from Tonga to Fiji. I talked to the cat owners in the Fiji marina (Vuda Point I believe) and I decided to stick with monohulls. The thought of sailing up wind in a cat just didn't sit well with me. Sure, most cruising is downwind but I did a lot of upwind sailing in my years. I found a Whitby 55 that has just as much room as a 45' cat but a 3rd of the price of a used cat. I have to say I am very happy with my decision.
During my cruising all saw all kinds of boats out there that most would say shouldn't be out there. I think it really is about the sailor and not the boat, but, I do have a question for Delos captain: would you feel as safe on your new cat (pretty big one) in the same conditions you experienced in the south Indian Ocean 8 to 10 years ago as you did on your Amell? I remember watching that video when we were looking for a new boat.
The other thing that I was nervous about was how you have to react to squalls before they hit on a cat. On a monohull, the boat tells you when you need to make a change. On a cat, if you wait for the boat to tell you, it may be too late. I was used to single handling which mean I wasn't always watching the weather. Although I would sleep in the cockpit with my alarms on, the squalls did sneak up on me often.
That spot is so cool with the current cutting through the islands !!!
This may be already covered in a previous episode, but what are you going to do with Delos herself when Delos 2.0 is finished?by the way the quality of the content is insane!! Keep it up!!!!
So wonderful to see living coral and a vibrant ecosystem. And hey those boat drinks look amazing (Sierra's included.) Swing beach at Timanu's = magical. What a beautiful way hang together! Hugs!
My biggest issue with a cat is the righting-moment. And there is much more stress on the catamaran rigging than there is on a mono. BUT!! You can't beat the living conditions on a cat, and the shallower draft is a plus too.
Beautiful!!!
All my best for your new adventure ❤🎉😊
It's interesting how at yacht level, the catamaran is more stable than a monohull; but for cross-channel ferries here in the UK, it was exactly the opposite. They tried a high-speed catamaran ferry for a while - I believe it also ran between North and South Island in NZ - but here, it quickly became known a "the vomit comet". It would do 35kt, cross the channel in half the time of the conventional ferries, but a high proportion of the passengers needed the sick-bag before they reached the other side. I heard theories about the lurching roll caused by one hull meeting waves at a different time from the other. It was discontinued after a few years.
It was tried across Bass Straight too a few years ago (mainland Aus to Tasmania), with the same outcome.
yup, awesome blossom may you all continue to have the time of your life.
My brother was diving, and running tours in Guam... Came across a frantic lady in an inflatable... Two divers had exceeded their tank-time, and not come back up... Vincent found them, and brought them to the surface... they had pulled their masks in an air chamber, and the toxic gases had %ucked them up... ...Guam gave him an award...
I've been watching for a few years and love you guys. I've learned a lot and it has helped me many times on our 30' sailboat.. this episode was epic and what a massive step. A new boat and an aluminum cat!!! How exciting. You guys deserve all the blessings 🙏. Can't wait to see the new girl. What are you naming her?? delos 2.0?

I have been to Nordby every year for 60 years now. It is the main town on the small island of Fanø in Denmark. It is a beautiful place with a rich sailing tradition dating back centuries. Seeing a Fanø shipwreck on the other side of the planet is no surprise. Like the sailors from Svendborg and Marstal the were everywhere.
Thank you for all your videos. I got hooked on your videos during covid as an escape..... good looking family. I love your commentary
Very nice, sailing experiences are again back after all those sweet family & kid oriented movies.
That, and more technical, building and nautical realities to come, I hope.
Looking forward to it. ⚓⛵
Great video,
Thanks for sharing. Awesome footage with the sea life. Take care, all the best, & God bless.
People who do not use compressed air to dive to depths greater than 66 feet (scuba diving) do not understand the issues of nitrogen saturation and the limited time that a human can dwell at various depths. Planned dives are critical!
Overall, this is one of your better videos. Which is saying a LOT!
Your channel (to me) is the standard by which all other sailing channels are judged. Consistency of great video quality, content, impact, editing, transitions, and connections are unmatched by any other channel.
Love it..!
Looking forward to the next chapter! Cheers Delos 🍻🤙🏻
Good luck with all your journeys and looking forward to the catamaran videos.
Hi, In the last couple of weeks I ran into your channel. It is truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing such good information. The technology episode was great. It helps summarize what is important to stay off-grid for months.
Are you going to share the decision making of the technologies going into your new Catamaran? To maximized operation costs.
Such, which type of engine petrol or Hydrogen. If, it is a hydrogen engine are you going to put in a water electrolysis machine to make your own hydrogen fuel?
Or will it be fully electrical operated. With a "Powerwall" like Tesla's batter storage system.
Or a mix of the technologies.
Great sailing.
The snorkling looks out of this world, thank you for filming it for us to see. Have y'all done any sailing in the Baltic Sea? I plan to sail there one day and visit some of the cool looking lighthouses.
Oh, my gosh! That shot of Sierra sleeping, my gosh, she is becoming so beautiful! You guys are going g to have some problems in about 12 years. I know, because I used to be the one that caused a lot of the problems. Luv u guys, Dr Merrithew. Oh, and, by the way, I'm starting my dream sail this weekend. Sailing from Michigan to the Caribbean. See u out there somewhere
Welcome to the land down under and thanks for sharing your adventures. On one of your days off, you might take Sierra to Movie World to get some cinematographer lessons for shooting your adventure.

WOO HOO darling Sierra & to you all!! An epic viewing to be seen! I can’t wait 😍🙌💖💞♥️♥️♥️
Is it a challenge doing all of those manual things with a little one? Keeping her safe the entire time would be a full time job I’d imagine. She is an amazing kid and so smart. All the best with your new adventure. I’d love an episode on travelling with a little and the safety of it all. ❤
