The 2004 MLB season was the final season that ESPN legitly cared about baseball and wanted more of it. In the 2005 MLB season, ESPN legitly cared about baseball with all the games they showed, but thats the season that they started to realize that MLB was never gonna be the same again after 2004. And then in 2006, ESPN no longer showed any baseball games on holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day), AND 2006 was also the final season that ESPN showed Division Series games and game 163 tiebreaking games (well, the final game 163 were both in 1998 and 1999, until the 2007-2008-2009 seasons). And then starting in the 2007 MLB season, MLB started to show postseason games on TBS, I think all Division Series games, plus all the Tiebreakers game 163, and one LCS series (with FOX showing the other LCS series and the World Series). It was also starting around 2006 that even the debate shows for ESPN rarely talked about baseball, unless there was some sort of drama or something amazing/historical/unique happened during a game
@@daxxyboy3686 To be honest, as of the 2023, nobody cares about sports anymore, at least not about any regular season games across the NBA-NFL-MLB. I as a Yankee fan was a little worried after the Mariano blown save which would have swept it but not enough to think they would come back. Once thr series was tied I knew the Red Sox were gonna win game 7.
As a Yankees fan, When the Red Sox won their 2nd game, I knew NY were screwed. So excited that the Yankees won the A-Rod sweepstakes, not paying attention that the Yankees didn’t bring back Andy Petitte
@@xandercrews4729 The Cardinals, while a great baseball organization, simply ran into an unstoppable freight train. The Sox were not gonna lose that series

Ahh memories. There’s no point in arguing whether a team can come back from a 3-0 deficit after they’ve already forced a game 7. If a team wins 3 straight to tie the series then they definitely can win game 7.
I have always said it is harder to stop a comeback than it is to make a comeback. What I mean by that is once the wheels get moving in that direction the team ahead now has everything to lose and gets tight while the team coming back is loose and confident.
Clearly Redsox's became just like the Yankees like I knew this would happen eventually the redsox's they built up thetre team slowly got all the players and pitchers they needed to become the team they became winning ball games leading and coming from behind to win games with good pitching and good hitting to win games smashing home runs almost at to win ball games like the Yankee's were doing from the mid 90s till 2004 and for the redsox's they're reign lasted from 2004 till 2013
And it’s happened twice since in hockey too. In 2014 the LA Kings did it to the Sharks and before that … excuse me while I throw up in my mouth … the Flyers did it to the Bruins.
Yes, in many ways for the better. As a Sox fan, thank GOD we will probably never see another 4.5 hour marathon game that seemed to occur every series with NY.

Im not gonna dissect and compare with NFL, but MLB (mainly because of its 2003-2004 season and postseason) and NBA (mainly because of its 2004 season and postseason), were both HUGE in 2003-2004. LOTS OF SPICY STORIES those seasons from MLB and NBA. I guess the 2003 NFL season, which is what Wilbon was comparing it too (year Pats beat Panthers), was an ok season and forgettable.
