- Dear Viewers,
In this video, I have explained about, 'Maximum & minimum distance between two columns for residential building.
I have also explained about what should be the size of column for residential building that is for G, G+1, G+2, G+3 storey buildings.
In addition to this, I have told you how many number of bars to be provided for each type of column and of what size.
We knew that, Columns are the compression members of a building structure and plays an important role in transferring load from super structure to sub structure.

Hello madam my house is g+2 of footing 4.5 ft depth column size is 10×12 inc of 6 nos of 12 mm and 2 nos of 16mm beam span is 9 ft 10 f t n 11 ft only but tie bar is 6mm .Is my house safe in this condition
Madam g+2 ka aap bole 12X12 inch colum lekin ye offset ayeg column ko 9 inch ka hisab se boliye
Madam, For G+1 we have planned to use 9" * 9" columns with 12MM Tata Tiscon 550SD. Is this safe or will this create problem in future. We don't have any plan to extend this building further. Please respond, thank you.
Always choose rectangular column. Rectangular column is chosen for uniaxial and biaxial loading because the rectangular shape reduces the moments in lateral directions and long column mainly fail by buckling so there is need to reduce the deflection in lateral direction. Choose atleast 9" x 15" or 9" x 18" .
Hi bro, this is Vijeeth. I have a small doubt regarding building safety.
We built G+1 building in a 1000sq feet plot (100sq yards)in 2011! Now we added a floor and a pent house on top of it. Which is G+2 and a pent house slab!
There are 9 columns of 9x12 inches cross-section! We used 4 bars of 16MM, 2 bars of 12MM in ground floor and footing. And 6 bars of 12MM in rest of the floors.
Now my question is - will it be structurally safe? I tried to run analysis but I lost touch in it! What is your opinion?
Dear Vijeeth Michael,
If your house is away from earthquake zone areas & railway track, your structure is more safe for what you have provided 👍🏻
Beam. G +2
