That wind was unprecedented here in Belfast. Never seen the like of it. Shops and businesses that never closed during Covid , were all closed. It was wild.
I think it is so foolish and as I said earlier if anything had happened to him emergency services would have to have come to help him and putting them at risk........too stupid for words!

@Frankie-c5x that's fair enough. I understand that it's been worse in other places in Scotland or throughout the UK. The headline should really read that it's the worst to hit CENTRAL scotland cause honestly we've never had winds like this. It has taken out several buildings in my area, uprooted massive trees, flipped cars and injured a lot of people. We are in a valley here so we genuinely never get really bad weather. And being less than 2 miles away from BP we don't get snow or even the super low temps because BP heats up the surrounding atmosphere.
There have been many storms of this magnitude and above to hit Scotland since 1998, but they were north of the central belt so don't count to sensationalist journalists
@garysmith5025 that's the whole point though. We don't get weather like this here normally. Here in Falkirk especially, we are usually inside a sort of weather bubble. We hardly never get really bad winds, we never really got torrential rain for long periods of time and we hardly get snow. We live in a valley so everything just sort of misses us. Then the fact that we are so close to BP too snow melts in the air before it even gets to us.

England tends to get city names etc, but Scotland and Wales don't. It's not wrong. The central belt is still in Scotland. It just wasn't specific. You don't hear folk from Stirling whinging every time there's a bad snow storm in Scotland (by which they always mean the highlands) saying "oh its just a little bit of snow. We get this every year I don't get why people are complaining" it's all perspective. However, i do get your point and I apologise.

I wish I knew that the alarm was only for 10 seconds. I turned it off and missed the message. Winds down to 79mph in Edinburgh now. Our tenement roof got detached nearly 30 years ago as the original cleats were too short to fix it for strong winds. They had dodgy builders in 1908 too!

I was quite impressed with the weather experts explanation for this storm on the news until he used the phrase “caused by global warming” It makes me wonder what caused the storms in the 1980s and 1998 which were much worse and why we don’t get them on a more regular basis?

Ive been driving a Renault master as part of my job for over 15 years now and driving from Glasgow to Manchester this morning was the scariest driving experience of my life so far. My arms are cramped from fighting the steering wheel. Just saying

My Son nearly got killed by a huge tree falling this morning, luckily he only got a few splinters, however the council van that was parked outside got completely crushed by it!🤔✌️
I'm not saying it isn't a "storm of the century" but the most dramatic scenes in this video are: plastic shed partially dismantled (by the wind I assume?), a few trees down, including one on top of a parked car, wind blowing water down the street and an overturned lorry (that's pretty dramatic ngl. Saying that, I hope everyone is safe. It's always better to stay in and not take the risk.
There's always have to be those people moaning that everything doesn't run as normal. In Switzerland maybe you like to risk lives so you can buy a pint of milk whenever you feel like it but i suspect its just you pal. Shops close for half a day to keep people safe. Im sure you'll survive the inconvenience

@@lovemussb1940 They film the sea because it's guaranteed footage. You could spend 12 hours filming a street only to find you've picked the one street that doesn't get touched, and you've got no usable footage, or you could spend 1 hour filming the sea and get 1 hour of footage.
Just watching this and thinking about the intensity of the storm and how are weather is changing fast... happy people in the worst affected areas followed the warnings...I can imagine most people didn't even venture out of the house...

It hit the Westcountry overnight but we've been getting storms for years so we're used to it pretty much.
