I live in Galway and it was the loudest wind I've heard in years. Sustained gusts that knocked a fair few trees blew off bits if roofs etc. I dont buy into all the scaremongering about the weather but this was one rough night for sure. I'm of the opinion that humans overall have little impact on the planet in real terms but if a storm is a big one why not just accept it stay off the road for a while snd when its over just move on. It's the feckin hysterical news reports and soap opera type drama i struggle to understand. Idiots bleating about it being nothing obviouly were living in unaffected areas and good for them. The lad in donegal that was was killed by the falling tree was unfortunate he was going home from work apparently. Now i personally would have not tried it at 5:30am but the workd is full of people who risk themselves or their employees for the bottom line. I consider it an insane attitude but each to their own i guess. Living is inherently risky. I just dont think that risking my life for a job is something worthwhile.
My house was in the eye of the storm at 1pm today. I was walking my toddler home from nursery at 12pm and got blown home! Had to hold onto the stroller with all my might! RIP to the life lost.

Board up those windows before the storm hits. Secure trees with wood and strapping at the base at least to support it when blown over, plant hedging instead of trees near houses and sheds. Hedging bends and if evergreen will provide some protection in winter.
Only happens once a generation they said so I wouldn’t worry about it just a bit of wind. Record from 1945? Wow the weather really has been mellowing out of the past few decades.

I think we need to bring in legislation now. Any landowner that has a tree near a road or power lines, should foot the bill if their tree causes damage or kills someone. There shouldn't be 1 tree within 15 metres of a road, telephone line or power line.
