Awesome man. So you used the pitch bender? I always wondered how he did it with out. I thought I saw you move chromatically during the first one.. imitating that pitch bender effect.. but the second one I assumed you pitch bent. Either way . I always loved that solo. Never learned it myself but wanted to.
On a real tonewheel organ they do the down bend by just turning off the power of the organ and as the tonewheels slow down, so does the pitch. The pitch up is done with studio magic. Several of the tonewheel organ models or VST's (like Logics vintage B3) will simulate the power-down pitch bend. But the actual Hammond XK3 will not. Glad you enjoyed it. I actually play it much better now! But I've never re-done the video.
Awesome . Now I know what video I can pause and learn from. I'm Randy. Tom Sholes is my favorite guitarist ,keys bass ARTIST & Producer of all time. You nailed it bro.
That was awesome! I slowed it down a bit on youtube and just learned this solo again from the beginning....many changes from the previous tutorial. Perfect! Thank you!
+TieDye Kris Hahhaa funny, I do the same thing, but on my steering wheel. I don't feel so bad about air keyboards while watching people like Scholz and Mr. Richards here who have this sort of insane musical talent.
Awesome Robert! I was actually watching our keyboard player do the solo the other day and thought about checking a couple of the licks out and I was watching yours....... and didn't realize it was "you" until the end when I looked at the name. LoL! Great playing and thanks for the lesson! (Michael Hards)
That's realy good, man !!. I'm just starting learning this solo to play in my band, and would be glad to play it the way you do. How did you learn it ?
The hard way! Amazing Slow Downer and Capo and lots of repetition. It's been evolving over a couple of months. I really need to had the harpsichord part in the middle.
He didn't say "I did NOT do that!" he said "I cannot do that" because Tom Scholtz bent the pitch on that trill either using the run motor switch on his vintage Hammond or by employing one of his many outboard electronic hacks (not sure if he ever said which method was used on the album).
Roland VR-09 and VR-730 allow you to slow down the clone wheel with an IR hover thingy. But yeah, Tom Scholz did that in post by messing with the tape.
Chris Elrod Why don’t you stick to educating all the people who have subscribed to your channel (oh wait, you have no subscribers) or watch videos of your band singing WAY off key? I think you have a total of 50 views...and how many of those are just you admiring yourself? You realize your band videos have zero thumbs up? And the all have at least one thumbs down (and it wasn’t even me...yet) You’d make better use of your time practicing than making a troll of yourself.
@@chriselrod1733 I guess it's my civic duty to educate you...If you are leaving comments here it means that you have a youtube channel. You uploaded videos of a band called U2 by UV...and they're not that great. But lucky for you, no one ever goes to your channel except when you start acting like a troll.
Fantastic!
Thanks Bill
One of my favorite Hammond solos. Nicely done!

Awesome dude. That solo was smokin. Lol
Even the greatest musicians make mistakes, we're human! That was JUST AWESOME!
Awesome playing. Don't worry about the mistakes....We can fix it in the mix.

Stellar performance man
C Sharp??? I didn't hear it... Excellent job!!! I wish I could play like that... be proud, you are great.
Well, I can't unhear it! Thanks! I really hope to be putting up some more stuff soon.
no man, you were FEELIN it dude, this rocks!
Well, that just sucked....and all because you hit that C sharp. LMAO!
Excellent work man.
The C natural in that run has been my nemesis! Much thanks.
I always wanted to learn this solo, instead of just faking it on the dash of my car
+TieDye Kris Hahhaa funny, I do the same thing, but on my steering wheel. I don't feel so bad about air keyboards while watching people like Scholz and Mr. Richards here who have this sort of insane musical talent.
LOL same here. Semi pro dashboard keyboardist
Its verry perfect

Outstanding! Thanks for posting. I really enjoyed it.
Amazing job buddy! 👌🤟👍
Wow!!! That was phenomenal!
Great rendition!
Thanks. I actually play this a lot better now but this video has been viewed so many times I don't want to re-do it
Sounds awsome! Maybe upload the solo again but keep this version? :) @@BucF16
Nice job! Love it!

You Da Man!! I'll be watching and learning for many months! Thanks! Added to favorites!

Fabulous... thanks ☺
Thanks for giving us a good camera angle this helps me a lot.
A great tutorial! Thanks for posting.
When dazzlin', folks don't often hear the little mistakes we make. Well done, sir.
Absolutely incredible. Well done!
Nice job robert!
I love the organ bending up in pitch! excelent work :)

Thanks Michael! It's not 100% true to the record and I play it a lot better now than I did in this video.

Yeah man! Nice!
Goood! Can you record a "how to play" ? slow mode
Awesome!
That rocked man

Sweet..nicely done :)
AMAZING
Not perfect? How much better can it get? Impressive.
Ah man, it was perfect and then you went and hit that C# and f*ing ruined the whole thing ...
JK 😉
Freakin’ awesome!
cool
F-- yesss!!!!
I wish i could play at the royal woods concert.
well done. : )
I think the chords are different, around 1:02. Maybe not!
They might very well be! This is all by ear with help from ASD (amazing slow downer)
WOW! nice
Wow. you said that "it wouldnt be perfect", but it was pretty damn close.
Yo the C# didn't matter! (you gotta C sharp or you'll B flat).
Your pretty good you do rush songs
Now you just need computer keyboards to with that solo to troll away like Gerald Brofloski on South Park.
"I did NOT do that!" :D Great playing, nevertheless! :)

@@grezair7117 I heard he slowed down the recording tape with his hands. So when he was playing it there was no bend, but on playback there is.

Gerald would be proud
Much practice!
stop with misleading titles...not a cover...play along is what it is
Many years since I posted this. You are the only person to be wound up over title.
@@BucF16 not wound up over anything...educating you dolts...its my civic duty
