    I just ordered a quilt ruler on Amazon for $8.00 , what steal. I have the hardest time keeping my seams straight. Wish me luck 🤗

    Loved number 8-doubling up on thread! Just finishing up a Princess seamed denim dress jacket and I wanted to top stitch in white but didn’t have thick thread to give it a heavy look. Going to try out your tip tomorrow!

    I can make an addition to tip 6: you can make your template out of (clean 😁) sanding paper. And cut it so, that the sanding side is down when you want to go sewing. The sanding paper keeps itself on the fabric without any need of sticky tape 🤩 💃🏻 and thank you for this compilation!

    I love finger pressing while setting in sleeves. I always sew a stitch like that before attaching a sleeve to the bodice. It makes the job SUPER easy.

    $5.00 Walmart sheet sets are way cheaper to use while learning.
    I have a cutting phobia with fabric I’ve paid by the yard for, so I use sheets instead.
    Thrift shops and estate sales are a great way to find 100% Cotten and laces.

      I use sheets to make my summer dresses. I have been sewing 30 years. I use blankets to make quilts. Put on a walking foot and you will not have problems with your fabric feeds. Do not use 2 spools. Run. I would never do any of these tips.

      I am always on the prowl for useable fabrics for projects....thrift store sheets or shower curtains make especially great window curtains at a fraction of what you would pay for yardage!!!

    Wonder Tape is a *great* product. The quilt ruler is a great idea and I'm definitely going to have to give this a try!

      I use wonder tape for putting in zippers and velcro. It holds so well and doesn't bunch up like pins do.

    Instead of an awl for guiding fabric, I use nail dot tools. You get 6 double sided round tipped tools. Great for guiding near hems, so fingers aren't near the needle and great for pushing out corners.

    Thanks for the tips. You reminded me of the wash away tape to use for stretch knit activewear to keep them folded when I need to sew the seam or band.

    Your awl to help push the top knit fabric through is good especially if you don't have access to a walking foot. I too have been sewing many years and learned some great new tips to use on my next sewing project. Thank you

    I have been sewing for about 70 years, mostly on cotton fabric. I’ve always had difficulty with any kind of stretchy fabric, even though I’ve used the ballpoint needle and a stretch stitch on my machine.       @@fromprimroselane SHE is using it upside down, that is the LEFT guide and it's for the walking foot. That's why it is so large.

    Finally some tips that I didn’t know after 40 years of designing and sewing !! As I have worse eyesight the quilt ruler will definitely help me. I have it for many years with sewingmachine but never used it.

      It works well wth slippery fabrics like satin too....and with fabrics that habe a nap (like velvet or deep wale corduroy).

    Awesome tips Johanna! You’re always so knowledgeable and sharing!! That tip to help get your “stretched” seam back by holding a fold of the fabric behind the presser foot while sewing is my favorite to use and is almost “automatic” with me when sewing certain fabrics and seams!

      I was recently at JoAnn Fabric and saw a magnetic type of seam gauge that you lay when you want to the throat plate. It was 3 or 4 bucks but if yiu have magnets at home that's even better. Thanks

    Very cool from New York👍my fav tip for chiffon sheer fabric is to use tissue paper underneath so the fabric doesn’t get dragged down into the feed dogs

    Great tips... FYI I use an awl for some but others I use a wood chopstick ( that I sanded smooth )to help move the fabric along.. depends on the fabric

      @@Thelaststitch I have a plastic tool called a Purple Thang that also works well for this purpose, as well as getting sharp corners and other uses. I thread a ribbon through one end of it and wear it around my neck.
