- heyoo ! Here is a modern twist of the UBE Segment Food tasting hehe This time I am not making French people try a special filipino delicacy, but the famous Taiwanese drink : BUBBLE TEA - with a filipino flavor: the TARO flavor which is closed (but not the same) to UBE :) Enjoy !

Hi Leah, I don't think the purple yam that we eat is a fruit. It's a root, like carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, casava, turnips, etc. Nevertheless, this is another good video.
I actually say it is like a sweet potato but purple :) in French, we still call it a fruit or vegetable actually or une "race" which is a root but to simplify a fruit haha

Dioscorea alata, also known as purple yam, ube or greater yam, among many other names, is a species of yam (a tuber). The tubers are usually a vivid violet-purple to bright lavender in color (hence the common name), but some range in color from cream to plain white. It is sometimes confused with taro (Colocasia esculenta) and the Okinawa sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas cv. Ayamurasaki), although D. alata is also grown in Okinawa, where it is known as "beniimo". With its origins in the Asian tropics, D. alata has been known to humans since ancient times.

correction ube is not purple sweet potato. it looks like one but the taste is different

I think taro is different from ube halaya. Because ube halaya is made of purple sweet potato which is vines and purple fruit of vines , but taro is gabi in the philippines which has long stem and leaves and is not vines fruit
