  • Made a mistake. Finally I take the birds on their first training toss. But I accidentally took one that I didn't mean to take. I spent the afternoon getting ready and I've got a few things I want to change ready for the next one. Good pigeon video.

Hi mate fantastic to see the birds go on first training toss thought you was going to have problems when walking out the crate like chickens 🐔 🙄 and the one that decided he or she wanted a lift back in the van😂 but main thing they all got back and now they no what's expected of them great to see all the ups and downs in the sport well done👍

Good first experience there for them! Glad you got them all back. Regarding basket training, I'd place them in overnight too, water troughs on,just slowly splash it into troughs, some birds can be stubborn at first! Then I'd liberate them outside of loft from the crate, they'll soon get to know soon you open the door out they come! Then this should help when next road training. Always I'd give settling time prior to liberation, which will cut down on circling around making it easier for a Peregrine to ambush! But, if you do get Peregrine problems, I'd never let all out together! Five at a time, watch them clear via binoculars then next 5,time consuming for a large team but surely you want your pigeons to have a better chance 🙏All the best for the yb season 🍀🤞✊

Alright mate, When you initially opened the basket i thought the birds were going to walk home ha..
The birds did great for their 1st ever release from 3 miles. Well done! You have a nice loft set up too.
You will lose many birds over the years, here & there, on tosses. Some will be lazy, others to hawks, & some will get caught up in the weather etc, to return maybe weeks later. So don't get disheartened. It happens.
Release them from the same distance 3 or so times.. before expanding the miles. Great video!

Phew. Well that went better than I was expecting. Like you, I had high stress with my first year of training, (with lots of losses), but I quickly learnt the first toss is from a table near the loft, in the backyard, when they are very young and can just fly, but are responding to the rattle of the feed tin. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks and seeing the first race. You are doing great, keep going.

A sheet of corrugated cardboard cut to size is a good cover for the bottom of the crate for tossing transport. Add shavings for longer trips.

Thank you for the video! Unless it was an editing delay, the first group was impressive how quickly they gained altitude.

All that worry for nowt 😂😂🕊️🕊️. Give them 2 or 3 more, and then go longer for 2 or 3 more and then up them 2 what will be you're hot spot that you will use the most. Bring them in2 a field not a narrow lane way in future, don't worry about them circling and getting there bearings and what direction they go they will eventually circle 4-5 times and be gone home, bang the door down on the basket and bang gently on the sides and teach them it's straight out and straight home , as it would be in a race, good to see you will be in on Sunday 2 greet them on there arrival home also, again youngsters fly well and trap well to knowing there food is there waiting for them, as for weather, once it's not lashing rain and a cold north/north east wind I wouldn't worry about it, that and early morning fog, wait till that burns off, time to start really enjoying them now 🕊️🕊️

Birds who are heavy in the malt are always reluctant to fly..I just leave them and hardly give them attention till their primary flights are out..I train good weather, bad weather because they have to get use to that..

I'm finding that out. I like to think I'll be better prepared next season. I've had mine out in the rain when loft flying but for their first few tosses I want some blue sky for sure. I'm pretty pleased with how they came back today considering...

@@howtotrainyourpigeon Don't worry we all struggled in the beginning..I lost 5 birds with my first toss at 5miles..I was stupid and they were in heavy malt.. so they limped to the nearest loft they could find lol..now I breed early enough so they are atleast 6months old and well through the malt when I start to road train them.

Could someone explain to me so when you get the young do you just let them out of the loft every night to circulate above ..but before you let them out, you don’t feed them so you get them used to coming back to the feed ??? I’m really wanting to get in to this sport .. any help be so much appreciated

tbh if you're young birds ranges from loft for a good half hour to a hour 3miles training toss ain't no good as they can see for miles when flying about try a 5 mile first trainer that's what I do and never get much problems best of luck everyone learning something new everyday keeping pigeons
