You never cease to amaze me with your demo tracks - such excellent riffage and mix. You managed to convince me that a 9 strings guitar isn't just a gimmick.
Not gonna lie, I'm not a fan of 7 string guitars, let alone extended range instruments of 8 and 9, but I'm impressed by what you did here, creativity has no boundaries and as long as a tool serves a purpose and inspires someone to play or create something then it's fine. Also I didn't expect such clarity and definition from Engl ! Reminds me a bit of DAR Amplifaction Future Breed Machines
Schecter have often been slightly ahead of the competition when it has come to extra-stringed guitars and longer scale length. Their 7 stringers going back years were often slightly longer scale than the conventional models. Ditto for their 8 stringers and now the 9 stringer on excellent display. The demos were great and both amps handled that low end tightly. The particular voicing on the Fireball was phenomenal. I am curious to see how the Invective and the Diavlo could do with this axe as they’re known for their tighter outputs and you have demonstrated the Diavlo with a 9 stringer in the past.
@@jakemartin5569 I'm not aware of this, but it's very strange if this was indeed the case. Even the Hellraiser V 7 string and C7 standards, from 2009, had 26.5" scale necks. As did the Jeff Loomis 7 string V model. The Schecter Omen 8 string from 2010, which was widely distributed as one of their main 8 string offerings, also had a 26.5" scale neck. Then they had the limited run for the Devil 8 that had the same scale neck.
@@kadestorm Even if I misremembered the 26.5 scale being 25.5, 26.5 is way too short for an 8. Schecter has made some great ERGs as of late, but their early offerings left a lot to be desired when it came to scale lengths and necks.
@@jakemartin5569 You may well be remembering correctly. I was puzzled by that detail because it ran contrary to many mass produced Schecter guitars I had used and seen. On the specific topic of appropriate scale length, 26.5” could be considered a bit short for an 8 stringer, but back then, few competing brands were doing that much better. Ibanez had quite a few 8 stringers on offer then, with many of them being around 27”, including the Fredrick Thordendal signature model. Even recent Solar 8 string models on average are around 27”. This goes back to my original comment and response that on balance, Schecter and Agile have remained a bit ahead of the completion when it comes to the scale length of extended range guitars going back a longer time period.
The note definition is great on that thing! It seems with that scale length, you can get clarity on the low notes without needing to thin out anything amp wise. Super cool! Awesome job dude!
Well done on getting tight and clear enough tones without it being icepicky midrange hell, like too many 9 (and even 8) string tones I've heard. Great demo overall!
Out of everyone I've seen on RUclips, you are the absolute best advocate and demonstrator of what's possible with these 8 and 9 string instruments. I have this same guitar and am thinking about ordering the same neck illusions fretboard sticker set.
VERY impressed by the clean sound. Usually in my experience that's where 7+ string guitars lack in versatility. I really think you get a lot of quality for the price on Schecters.
After watching your vids, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered one! It came in yesterday, and I absolutely love it. The tone is so snappy from the 30” scale and the low C# string is incredibly clear and articulate. I’m blown away. Even alternating between the open C# string and the first fret is crystal clear. You’re right by the way, the neck is very thin and very playable, and not too wide. I’ve been playing eight-strings for years, and the transition so far even after 24 hours has been pretty manageable. So inspiring! I’ve contacted Schecter about a case suggestion, waiting to hear back.. otherwise, yeah!
I had the 7 string version of this guitar and I loved it! Only thing was I'm a beginner guitar player and 7 strings was too much for me. I've since then sold it on Reverb and now I want the 6 string version. I honestly like the bats, adds a dark/ evil/ menacing/ vampiric theme that most people find cliche and gimmicky but I think it's a great touch for Black Metal guys like me. 🦇🤘🏼🦇
Damn, John, you are definitely a quality player with amazing sounds. Holy crap! You make that 9 string Schecter sound so devastating through the Engl!!!
I've got the 8 string version of the Damien Platinum and hoooooweee it feels absolutely unreal. I did swap the pickups to a Seymour Duncan Pegasus/Sentient set - fair warning to anyone that these guitars do NOT have a bridge ground nor a routing for one, so you'll have to do one yourself. But overall, the platinums are just astoundingly good instruments. Great demo as always!
The EMGs were the sound of the Animals as Leaders ST and your clean tone is the same, which is cool. I had the 808 in my Iron Label, but I hated them. This guitar sounds really good though.
Glad you got one of these. The only negative to me is the inlays, and the body wood. If I'd rather have no inlays, and basswood, alder, or swampash. But I have a 9 string agile that is pretty much this and still love it!
Well god damn, that's a fucking godzilla-sized song you wrote there. Almost a shame to be wasted on just a RUclips video of a guitar review! If that was a full song by a band, I'd be in love with it. I love you how also understood the range of the guitar and didn't just treat it as a low chugga chugga thing. You used the breadth of what this offers.
@@oscarcastellon7398 interesting... I'll have to look in to them more. Jon's Ownhammer videos were the reason I even bought them lol. I'll have to see if he has York ones.

Interesting sounds can be made using this kind of weaponry and witchcraft. But, what is the point of going so low ? What can bass or synth do in a mix where guitar is in 5 string bass teritory ? I am just curious and it is the reason I ask the question.
Believe it or not, the bass is still necessary since it provides frequencies that not even these guitars have. Even though they're playing the same notes. Just hipass the guitars and let the bass handle the low end. I used to be skeptical too until I mixed a song like this.
Really helpful, I'm currently looking for a 9 string guitar and I think this might be it. I would've loved if you would've used the 6505 to see how they sound together. But great work, and amazing sound.
I have a Damien Platinum 6 and 7. I was tempted to sell my Elite 8 and replace it with a Damien Platinum 8. I've loved the cheesy edge of the bat inlays ever since the original line of Damien guitars in 2007. The only thing keeping me from getting a Platinum 9 is how small my hands are and how easy it may or may not be to find replacement 9 string sets.
Nice demo! I have a c7 blackjack from Schecter, which I bought years ago. Still my favourite guitar, they really make great stuff. But question, how does the guitar feel on the high strings, does it have tension issues? I have a fanned fretted 8-string, and I wouldn't really want it regular. So also on a 9-string I think I would prefer a fanned fretted.
Question for you! I just got one of these, and LOVE it. But, Don't have a case for it. I would prefer a hard shell, but do you have any recommendations?
I own a few different flavors of schecter guitars and honestly they have all been top notch. Would love to buy one of these beasts but no websites seem to have any listed?
Why are multiscale 9 string guitars so rare? Afaik only Legator makes 9 strings with multiscale fretboards. Schecter and Ibanez 9 strings aren't multiscale plus they're only 28", what's up with that?
Which elixir set do you use? Have you tried them all? I want to give one of them a try since I have a lot of guitars right now and not tons of time to play every week.
