This is one of my favorite shanties because the lyrics and melody are so repetitive it's easy to remember. It's great for beginners!
    - Tuning: I'm tuned to the same tuning you see in most of my lyre videos. The first 6 notes of a major scale are strings 2-7 and string one is the 6th note an octave lower. In this video I'm in the key of C so the tuning from left to right is A (low), C, D, D, E, F, G, A (high).
    - Always refer to the makers' recommended tuning to determine which key you should tune to. When it doubt is it is always better to tune down rather than up.
    - When learning start by going slow and working on the melody first (the top line of numbers). Later, once you've got it down then add in some harmony (the lower numbers) if you like.
    - Chords are indicated by the Roman numerals however I'm not always chording in this arrangement. For those just wanting to play harmony there are three chords. My recommendations are as follows: strings 357 for the ii chord; 246 for the I; and 125 for the IV
    - This song plays great on 6-String lyre as well because it doesn't require string 1. You would just need to be tuned to the first 6 strings of a major scale and the tablature will match up.
All my instruments are made by me, Wild Sparrow Strings. In this video I'm playing one of my Voyager lyre models. Check out my site to learn more or to request a custom.
