TLDR for anyone who stumbled on this video. This album was transformed into a love letter during the creation process as Roby was responsible for adding lyrics and creating song titles. The man on the left (Roby) intended for this to be directed towards the woman on the right (Valerie) who has been married to another man for years, and shortly following the release of this album Roby, physically assaulted, and took advantage of Valerie. Sweet Trip has since broken up.
Sweet Trip is such a great band, they're so nice to their fans on socials and their music never gets old I'll always love everything they do no matter what it is lol
Finally, was getting worried that this was going on a YUNOREVIEW. Quite a lot I agree with on the first half of this record. I really felt as though it was a solid comeback! I think taking this album as a "cozy" experience thats really heartwarming. Personally this was a strong 8 as the "weak" tracks mentioned (Walkers + Polar Equals + Truth that is Real) really did work well in the context of the album and as an experience, even if they don't stand so strongly as single tracks. Edit: Somehow forgot about Snow Purple Treasures, easily one of the most calming, spacy songs I've heard in a while.
@@bino_4221 it's pretty f*cking gross. Roby made the song Eave Foolery Mill Five that's an anagram for Valerie Love of My Life referencing the other half of the duo Valerie Cooper. The song involves both vocalists singing very intimately. Valerie has been married to someone else for 20 years. Roby had a crush on his bandmate (Valerie and her husband were aware of it) that most likely grew into an unhealthy obsession, and led to Roby actually assaulting Valerie last winter. What's even worse is that Valerie wasn't aware of the anagram in the song and she sang on Roby's creepy love confession song without her knowledge, effectively making the music itself a vehicle for Roby's creepiness. It's really disheartening for all the fans, such a tragic end to a great band. Lots of vocal lines straight out of YWNKW to the point of new songs and old songs blurring together in my head. Overall not as many interesting songs as either of their two previous releases. I mainly agree with the thoughts on the last track; I feel like they could’ve gone even more maximalist. The last track just fades out. Design: 2: 3 was so abstract and well done. But that’s also another thing to consider; this record is NOT VDC or YWNKW. It is gilded in Sweet Trips’ 20+ years of experience in sound design and will reflect as such. The soundscapes in general are much more surreal in my opinion. Velocity was amazing, but contrastingly I feel like it was a bit more experimental. This album does feel wiser, like it’s resting comfortably by an IDM fire. It shows the maturation of an artist, and the exchange of slight, slight increase in predictability for overall quality.
