Tesla V12 - CHAOTIC Downtown Toronto Drive.

- In this drive we pushed supervised self driving to the limit with downtown Toronto traffic. We only had 3 disengagements and were surprised by the performance. #tesla #fsd #toronto
The video starts off calm but then gradually gets more and more challenging! Enjoy!

CHAPTERS:
00:10 Introduction.
00:49 Previous issues with V11 software.
01:11 First protected left turn into narrow, busy road. Too timid on flashing yellow lights.
02:04 Car making left turn surprises us but the system does not overreact.
02:40 Marsha's delayed reaction to the car making a right turn. Almost felt like we were going to rear end the car.
03:02 Hearing ambulance/emergency vehicle. How does V12 respond when it sees it?
03:39 Construction ahead. Right lane closed. Handles it well but gets confused on where to stop.
04:27 Someone reversing in a one way road? Will the system overreact?
05:30 Marsha turns wheel to right? Not sure why? Followed by common courtesy test when Prius was trying to get into our lane.
08:10 Busy road with pedestrians, cyclists weaving in and out of lanes and vehicles.
10:00 Testing built-in common courtesy in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic. Will it yield to the vehicle merging and keep the intersection clear if there is no room ahead?
12:52 Marsha lets person in front of us followed by crazy driver almost hitting cyclist.
13:40 V12 fixes issue with pedestrians when driving in the lane closest to them. It no longer swerves away from them in the lane, even though they are on the sidewalk.
13:51 Smooth lane changes followed by VERY SPICY last lane change to the left.
14:50 Famous left turn on Queen’s Quay. Disappointed with V12's performance as V11 made it. It is a confusing left turn.
17:17 VERY narrow lane for left turn. Courtesy to let car in but also not create more congestion. Difficult decision.
22:40 VERY difficult congested left turn and immediate right. System handles really well. Human driver kindness at play.
24:20 Marsha has a mind of her own. Did V12 prioritize contextual awareness over navigational map data? Final thoughts.
Yasssss
Tesla FSD 😚
People turn into the red, streetcar area on a regular basis. The turns onto Queens Quay are the most difficult in the country.
That’s very true. In our previous downtown Toronto videos it was able to make the turn without going into the streetcar lane. It had a lead vehicle so not sure if that’s why it made it.
I love the saga of returning to the infamous Queen’s Quay left turn
Yes! I was so pumped to see how it would handle the infamous turn 🥹 Hopefully next updates fixed it 🤞🏼
Great video showing some of the complicated interactioms with streetcars and pedestrians :)
Thank you for tuning in!
Just a note about why the streetcar on Queens Quay stopped beside you, it's TTC policy that they stop at all forward facing switches to check that they are set in the right direction before they proceed accordingly.
Yes, for sure. Thank you for elaborating on this. FSD has consistently handled this well.
@@spicytech it's basically a safety thing for the streetcar operators because they don't have a signal that tells them that the switch is set properly. Some places it's worse than others like for example on Queen Street east nearby the streetcar barn where there are several tracks branching off the street into the yard.
As usual, excellent video and commentary!
Thanks Kevin!
LETS GOOOOO!
V12 is getting really good handling heavy traffic now!
It sure is! It’s definitely getting there! It also leaves space in a congested intersection. Overall impressive stuff.
FSD has problems in Toronto:
1:35 Human intervenes, taps the accel pedal. FSD was hesitating
2:38 Human intervenes, FSD is not stopping as it should
3:08 Human intervenes, FSD does not respond to police car with sirens
3:58 FSD stops at the wrong place in a construction zone
13:30 FSD struggles in traffic gridlock
13:57 Very tight lane change. Not good
14:55 FSD goes on the red trolley track! Not good
16:35 Human intervenes, taps the accel pedal. FSD was clueless
FSD Full Autonomy is a long ways off!
Wow! Thank you for the breakdown! Still not ready for these conditions in my opinion, but has substantially improved over V11. Will give it a chance to improve with training.
@@spicytech I watched your whole video, I was happy to take some notes. I have watched FSD struggle in New York or San Francisco, but I was not aware that Toronto
is a challenging city too!
I hope that when future FSD updates are released, you run it through the gauntlet of Toronto. 😃
So close to 1k subs yassss
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Informative and entertaining video as always. 🙏 Really miss Toronto. Reversing on the road like the guy at 4:25 is so normal in my country it stops being crazy. 😅
Hopefully it can handle your country in the near future!
