When I bought my house 17 years ago there wasn't any landscaping as well as not much money in my budget for anything expensive. I purchased 12 Alberta Spruce tree babies for $5.99 each. They have grown to 10 and 12 feet high and 4 to 6 feet wide. I was really shocked because the tag stated 6 x 3. I planted them about 4-5 feet apart and some are now touching.
Hi Mark, wow that is a big AlbertaSpruce! I know the feeling we started with zero landscapingon our new cinstructiin home. This is why i love checking out the boxstores for plants, trees, and shrubs. It was the most affordableand accessible place for us to shop when starting out landscapingon a very limited budget. Thanks fir you comment!
Fingers crossed Mary! I know they vary by location, but mostly I do believe that they do have to clear out these items so its highly likely. Let me know if you find anything!
You had fun! You make me want to plant an evergreen. I am in Arkansas so I need something that can tolerate the heat. I will check out our Home Depot. Thank you!
Hi Ruth, Evergreens are so great. Arkansas seems to range in gardening zone 6 thru 8. That should give you some options. Good luck, hope you find an evergreen 🌲 for your garden.
Nice haul Steph . My Home Depot has had this sale for several weeks now and I picked up 12 small emerald green arborvitae‘s on sale for $7.88 and three of the Danica Arbs . With the emerald greens I will plant a small hedge . Inventory is definitely not the same everywhere , I did not see any false cypress at my store
Steph, every time I see a Home Depot or Lowes plant clearance video, I wish I lived closer to one of those stores, the closest ones are 90 miles away. I'm glad that you were able to pick up some really nice evergreen shrubs and trees at a fantastic price! My car would have been so packed that I'd be lucky if there was room for me, the driver! 💚🌲🪴☃🎄
Hi Margie, What a bummer that your far out from a HD & Lowes. I love local small nurseries as well, but these larger box stores are so close to my home, the grocery store etc, that I'm near them at least once a week. lol I know its hard to contain ourselves when the deals are so great! Glad I have a minivan!
I really appreciate all the info you add that isn't on the tag! I was at HD yesterday checking things out, not on sale yet in 9b, hopefully next week. Thanks Steph, merry Christmas!
Great prices for evergreens - and the best time to stock up if you're wanting to expand these in your garden - love the Yew especially!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Hi there! I'm not. These evergreens are really hardy. So I'm planning on leaving them in a protected from wind location, where they will still get watered by rain and snow. I'll also check them for water periodically. They will be fine until spring where I can then decide where to plant them. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and for your comment.
@@HookedandRooted So I stopped by another HD yesterday- and they had a 50% sale of all the red pots including the decorated ones. Thank you for the tip.
Yes, these are hardy evergreens. The only one I would say is borderline hardy is the Osmanthus, at least in my experience. My recommendation would be to tuck them in a corner that's sheltered from wind, find a sort of micro climate spot, but ensure they still receive water from rain etc. If its been dry, check them periodically for water, and provide water as needed until they can be planted in Spring. Hope this helpls. Thanks for watching!
Hi Deborah, yes you can. It would be important to make sure you keep it well watered until the ground freezes. And also add a layer if leaves or mulch to protect the roots in case the ground heaves the new planting a bit over the winter. Hope this helps.
Hi Heather! I have them tucked in a south-facing corner near my foundation but not planted, they are in their nursery containers. They are protected from wind, but still get sun and can get watered by the weather. I will check in them periodically for moisture. I will plant them in Spring once I decide where. Hope this helps.

Thanks for letting us know about the sale Steph! I'm crossing my fingers that my Home Depot also has these on sale! 😁🤞🤞

Hi Amy! Nice pickup! I'm sure the hedge will look great.
Thank you for sharing over $400 worth of wonderful trees for $70!!
I’m thinking of going back for more
Isn't that the best Claire?! so glad you were able to get some. Thanks for watching. Happy Holidays!
Every time I see these ads for sales at Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot they don't have them in my area, Zone 7B.
Hi Christine! I'm sorry about that. It is disappointing. These sales are so dependent on store location/region.
Thank you for the information I did go out and pick up a couple plants. Thanks
Hi Tamar, your welcome! I'm glad you were able to pick some up 😊

You are so welcome! I love talking about plants so any chance I have to share plant info, I'm all over it! Thanks for watching!
Excellent sale and so glad you treated yourself 🥰🥰🥰
Hi Jasmine! I was so excited! I love these plant sales lol!
Unfortunately my HD and Lowes typically don’t have these great sales, but I keep watching for them!
Keep an eye out Rhonda, you never know when they need to clear things out and start marking down.

Hi Robyn! I agree the prices are great for evergreens 🌲
Hope my Home Depot has the Colorado Blue Spruce. I would love to replace it with an evergreen tree I had. Thanks for this info, Steph!
Fingers crossed you find a blue spruce Jolie! They are such beautiful trees 🌲
YAAAASSSS!!!!! I love a home depot video! Show me all the 1/2 off finds 😍👏🏾
Yes girl!! You know it's my favorite thing to share 🙌 sales on plants = saving money = ability to buy more plants!! 🌱💕

Hi Rhonda, your very welcome.
Thank you for this video!! I need some of these!! I need deer resistant as well. Going there today!! 😍
Hi Jeanine, good luck! I hope you find some deals! 🌳
@@HookedandRooted thank you so much!!🎄
Lucky you, my local Home Depot down here in San Antonio, Texas don’t do any discount like that 😒
I'm sorry, I know its very dependent on location/region. Thanks for watching.
Love your videos! Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much Angie 😊

Hi Steph - Hooray for the plant haul!! Are you planning on planting the blue spruce right away before the ground freezes?

Thank you for the info. Very neat!!!
You bet!
My Zone 6 HD had a small display today of these at full price. I guess that I either missed the sale or they lucked out by not having extra inventory.
Hi Thomas, I'm sure it depends alot be store/region/garden zone etc. Next time your in, just ask if they ever mark/ed them down? Thanks for watching.

Zone 7b CT here bought a bunch of them, will they survive the winter if I keep them in the pot?

Thank you.
Man our home depo has no plants to buy. Our garden center closes up shop about October.
Oh how sad 😔 are you in a colder zone, below a zone 6?
No im in Oregon. Not sure why our home depo/ lowes garden centers close up shop so soon. They also rarely but plants on clearance 🙁
awesome
I'm in 6b can I still plant evergreens as long as ground isn't frozen?
Hi Deborah, yes you can. It would be important to make sure you keep it well watered until the ground freezes. And also add a layer if leaves or mulch to protect the roots in case the ground heaves the new planting a bit over the winter. Hope this helps.
Great video ❤️
Where are you located?
Massachusetts
I'm also in Mass. Will you plant these this year or tuck them somewhere until spring?

@@HookedandRooted, Yes, thank you! I'm going to HD tomorrow. Fingers crossed...
Dwarf Alberta spruce = mite food.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing your experience. I have one that I'll keep an eye on for them.
