I was touched how your mother take care of you, how your father lifts you that morning, your friend who awaits you in the car and most of all to the dog who follows you until you get in the car, I'm crying.
Meg Allen You think it's easy to do this every day? I am sure there is a lot of love involved but you're playing it down way too much, making it seem normal. Even when she's his mom, it's a thing not every mom would be able to or would want to handle. Maybe not a hero but definitely more than just a mom.
John Baugh Maybe you're right. But it's the word "just" that triggered my reaction. Usually it's used to say that "xxxx" isn't anything special so no need to make it bigger than needed. But I could be completely wrong indeed Thanks for making me see an alternative option 🙂
I was wondering do you get funding for lifts and ceiling track? I think it's strong for your mom to lift you but maybe the lift can help with that load?
bombo longkumer Many individuals with disabilities find it slightly offensive/demeaning to be referred to with those kind of misnomers. I know you are trying to be nice, but those euphemisms often come across as condescending. Just something to think about...
Amy, It's fine to be nice to others. What girl doesn't like being told she's "too cute"? Nothing wrong with some positivity. As this video shows being positive is important.
As a home health nurse, this truly makes my heart so happy! It's so rare that you come into good families like this. People really don't understand how rare this really is ❤️ most nurses suck too, which makes it even harder for those that care.
I was thinking I know how much your mom loves you. I was thinking how she is probably so thankful to still have you in her life, even though you have significant physical challenges. My son had cerebral palsy. He died at the age of 26 from a car accident. I am so thankful that you are alive and your mom and dad all work that her. This is beautiful. I also appreciate your bravery for telling your story. I have been feeling like the Lord wants me to share my story but I am so hesitant. You have certainly encouraged me today though. Angie
Perfect example of never knowing what lies ahead. Your son had CP, yet it was a car accident that took him away! I would venture to say that wasn't what had you worried through his or your life for that matter. ....God bless
Wow...moms are heros...i recently had to take care of my son who broke a leg and had surgery. Was very hard to take care of him. Moms will always love their children and do anything for them...🤗🤗
I used to do this to my grandfather when he was alive. I am a nurse now and your parents are doing a perfectly fine job of taking care of you. You are a strong and wonderful guy. I really wish you and your family all the best life has to offer. Take care! Oh! You have a great channel by the way. I learned something today out of this so, I subbed. Keep em coming and inspire everyone!
I don't have a spinal cord injury but I was born with muscular dystrophy and it's crazy how much we have in common when it comes to our routine. My mom and I do all the same things besides the suppository and catheter. Zack Collie you have a fantastic Mummy! I am 62 old, i’m not quadri but i have infection arthritis in my spine bones and after months of pain, needles and hospital, doctors said they can’t cure me and send me at home . I must die from septic at any moment but it’s low in spine. I am in my electric bed since 9 years and half. I can’t stand or walk and can’t stay in my wheelchair because of suffering. My infection is now in arms, hips, one leg and ribs. My mom is just dead at 105 years old. My first daughter does all for me, like your mother. My other daughter is dying from multiple sclerosis. My routine is very like yours but with morphine and Fantanyl and a lot of precautions to not break my vertebras. I am always in pain
Days and nights in pain. They offer me the death assistance but my daughter doesn’t want and i love life. I was palliative nurse all my life. I have an horizontal wheelchair, like a child stroller. My bones crutch, i am now 4,5 feet. I have in my home palliative services. I am on FB each night because of the suffering. I ´m member of guinea pigs groups and my two piggies are in my room. I was also voluntary for the Nasa research program for tracking exoplanets and i was beta gamer for Big Fish Games but i can’t anymore. I write romans and novels with Siri Aids.
I am amazed at your open and honest approach to sharing your care and self care routines. Your videos have opened my eyes to the struggles you and your family have on a daily basis and how much I take for granted. You are an inspiration to all others affected in a similar way. I hope if you ever read this comment that you are doing well and can keep doing the amazing work of spreading insight into a world that most of us will never know and or are to afraid to ask about. Big love to all carers and to your mam. Thank you Zach Collie...
This is one of the most amazing videos I have seen lately. You got this routine down man. Your mom and dad are so loving. I really like that you are able to get out of the house and spent time with your friends and soak up some sun. It looks like you are living your life and that's the most important thing.
Not sure how this ended up in my feed, but it is an amazing snap shot of your life now. I am a father of 6 kids, and I can say (without further video evidence), you are the very lucky son of a super mom. Sounds to me like you are aware of that, though. Keep reminding her how lucky you are to have been born to her, and keep living life to the fullest you can.
Please consider a hoist . Your Mom is a gem but her back won’t last long doing this every day. I am suffering as a retired nurse who worked in the days of heavy lifting with no aids. What incredible support you have from your parents and your friends.
Marilyn something like that type but the room might not be suitable. There are other options perhaps even a device that is attached to the ceiling . I think professional advice is needed .
Not only is your mom amazing you are too! I love the gratitude that you show her. I'm disabled due to being legally blind with out any ability to have my vision to be corrected by glasses. I have albinism , so my vision is due to the lack of any pigment. My eyes are under developed due to the absence of pigmentation while developing in the womb. I also try to be as independence as possible and show how much I appreciate others who help me. I love the education that you share with your viewers. I'm curious about other people with different disabilities. Sometimes we, as disabled people, forget to show people that help us the gratitude that they deserve. I think it's wonderful that you remember to do it.❤️
I have a step daughter who is 28 cant walk talk or see she was born at 28 weeks and died a few times before she was ok. I love her to death because her mother dont love her I have had her since she was 9 her mother was cooking drugs in the home with her 3 small children ages 4 6 9 I have had them ever since that day she got caught. Hi Zack, my name is Kenya, I'm Brazilian, forgive me for spelling, but I speak very little English and this text was translated by goolgle translator and could not be without commenting your video, I was amazed by your mother's love and affection for you, it shows us that love existed and is worth it. Congratulations to her for being a true mother, she inspired me, I am a mother too, she taught me a beautiful lesson in overcoming, and love and dedication. Your family is beautiful that God always blesses you.
You are an amazing young man for sharing and making your normal daily routine visible. It's a good reminder that everyones' "normal routine" is different but it's normal for each one of us. Looks like you form part of a super supportive family & friends network. More power to you and yours. Great hair by the way!
Parents man, heart goes out to anyone who does not have the blessing of a loving parent. It’s something all children deserve and such a blessing if you can have one in your adult years too
Absolutely loved how informative this video was! I love seeing how happy and optimistic you are! That definitely teaches and inspires me a lot! I honestly learned a lot from you and thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you soooo much for sharing. I know so many people are really ashamed to share the intimate parts of this and I’m sure this was really vulnerable for you of course but also your mom. You two make an amazing team. Your sense of humor and smiles and laughs through everything are incredible. I have gastroparesis and separate G and J feeding tubes, a port for IV hydration, POTS, hEDS, MCAD, CRPS, being tested for another crap, and our bowel regimen is very similar but it also humbled me a lot, I always feel bad bitching about my chronic illnesses when so many people have it so much worse. Anyway, thank you for the insight again. Sending lots of good vibes- and thanks for the reminder to give my mama a hug.
It makes me sound silly but I didn't realize a bowel movement has to be assisted if you're quadriplegic. Thank you for educating me. Your mom is amazing. That's pure love 💛
Thank you for this intimate view in your life. You give so much to many people in showing how someone can master challenges - physical and characterwise. And it is a really well made video. Btw your tattoos are cool and beautiful; you are a handsome and likeable guy and they fit you perfectly. I wish you the best and your mother, the love and connection you have is really touching.
thank you so much for this video! as a nursing student its so great to get a peak into the life of quadriplegic adult. Im positive this will give me a better understanding of my patients needs. Your mom is an amazing woman. Im a special needs parent too and its such a blessing to care for my kiddo. Keep loving on her thats the best reward for us moms
This is really helpful to dispel any wrong ideas. Also, what a great mum you have and good friends to drive you. Love that the dog gets his bed in the van and comes along too!
I salute your courage to help other people in your situation to not be scared of routine but understand it better but definitely someone who finds them self in a recent medical condition well truly love this informative routine.. would love to see what u do to keep your mind busy what u do or like to do in your spare time
My brother was a quadriplegic. He got injured in 1960. Thing have improved I see. He was a C7 injury. He was also 6'4" which complicated things quite a bit. He could use his hands fairly well. So he was lucky there. There was no self emptying a leg bag, and several other things I saw you do were much easier for you, even with your higher injury. He was at the Long Beach VA hospital. They have a huge spinal cord injury unit there. I spent the summer with my sister in law and I got to meet quite a few of the patients. I loved it. Your mom is amazing! She deserves a lot of big hugs, I think. Oh, he had terrible leg spasms which took over his life and finally he had surgery to sever the nerves that were causing it. He was so happy after that. But sadly, he passed away in 1988 at the age of 53. I miss him. We were never close when I was growing up. He was 7 yrs older than I, and he teased me constantly. But we got so close before he passed. I was so glad. Just out of the blue one day he just up and apologized to me, and I told him I was all over that. I'm sorry I ramble, but good luck to you. I think you have a bright future!
This made me smile. Sorry to hear about your brother. I also have a brother which is 7yrs older than me and he was also always teasing me and watching out for my mistakes back then. He's not quadriplegic or anything though. I was just able to relate when you said, you weren't close to him when you're growing up. We're still not close now though but I understand now how he felt and why he acted that way towards me. The 7-year gap must also been one of the factor there lol.
You have beyond one of the most amazing mothers a child could ever ask for.... No word a lie, I am jealous! Whenever I was 19, I had to have a surgery to remove my gallbladder due to having a more than a few times of having extremely bad and sharp pains in my chest and back for between 8-12 hours at a time... I went in for my surgery in the morning and by the evening I was aloud to go home.. All my mother did was pick me up, brought me to drop off my paper for meds, than dropped me off at my fathers ( which my dad works none stop, leaves at 630am and comes home around 7-8pm ) so after my surgery I could hardly do anything, let alone roll around out of bed... & she wouldn't let me go to her place to help me whenever I would be crying calling her asking her to come get me or help me.... I would die if I had a mother like yours!!!
i feel you, my egg donor (can't really call a demon a mom), wanted me to get out of her way while I was crying about suicide, so she could go eat her lunch while watching her fave soap opera...Y and R.
musket 0402 no I was just making the point that when I just needed a little help that my mother wasn't there for me so if I was in his position I wouldn't have my mothers love and support like he does.... I was just pointing out how amazing she is with explaining why
I'm in tears right now. Although, it's hard to say what it is about this video that's affected me so-- was it the the blatant display of unfaltering devotion, by a mother for her son? Was it the obscene levels of resilience with which he endures? (Prevails?) Or was it that, if only for a moment, I was able to forget my own self-absorbed problems-- the years wasted, lost now, to drug addiction and incarceration; the horror and dismay of success looming; the spiritial malaise of a godless life-- and to be reminded of how privileged I truly am, how grateful I need to be, and just how much f***ing beauty and love there is in this world. Or maybe it's that.... I long for incapacity? Long for some debilitated and costitutionally helpless state in which there is only me and there is only her-- and no one else. To where happiness and wonder are always and everlasting. To some existence where I survive on/by/through just one thing: her unyielding and unconditional love for me. This is a beautiful video. I truly admire your courage, and your mother's dedication. I will spend the rest of the day reminding myself to be thankful for all the little things I take for granted, and that love is real. Thank you.
Just stumbled onto your sight and now I'm hooked. You have an amazing support system, and found love also. You're a poster child (adult) for persevereing. Will keep praying for medical break throughs.Be well!💖🌈😍
@@Theorist9 thank you very much. If you're ever bored, feel free to check out my writing on Quora (link in bio) and read my solitary confinement piece-- among other stuff
Thank you for sharing something so private. It could be any person who ends up with a spinal injury. It's good to normalize these things. You're an awesome man for for sharing ♡
@@omega-zxul6267 YOU ARE EITHER A MORON OR YOU MISREAD MY COMMENT , CONTRARY TO YOU ACCUSING ME OF BEING A FEMINIST ( WHATEVER THAT MEANS ) MY OWN MOTHER BEAT ME AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY ABUSED MYSELF AND MY SIBLINGS . Zack, I did caregiving job for a paraplegic person years ago and I know how hard it is...I praise your mother for such a dedication and care she gives you daily. May God bless both of you !
Two amazing people, momma and son!♥️ So sweet seeing them work together, and can feel the love, and his spirit oh my!!💖😍 Thanks for sharing Zack Collie! God bless you all🙏🏻
I never knew that a quadriplegic had as much movement, purposeful or not. Being able to control the screen on your phone is great. Your family is wonderful.
Amazing!!!!! My career is a CNA in TX and I’ve had a variety of private patients and you are amazing and your mom is the best!!! All she does for you is what I do also! I love my work and I see how much love she has for you in the way she cares and helps you! And you, to see you to do as much as you can is dope as heck! Some people give up and your behind that! Way to go!!!!!
Wow!!!! I don't know why i watched this video but I'm glad i did! A true Mother's love for their child is unconditional in so many levels of life. I can't express in words what i saw in your Mother's commitment in taking care of you! Yes young man please give your Mother more HUGS!!!! I hope the best for you both & thank you for sharing with us!
Touched by the video. Love seeing you smile throughout the video. Love seeing your mom smiling throughout the video. And loved seeing you guys hugging. Very special.
I’m not sure How I got to this video but wow! I’m not a grateful enough person for my life and everything I take for granted. You are such an inspiration.
My husband has a spinal cord injury and is paralyzed from knees down but doesn’t have use of his left shoulder so I am his caregiver and helps him with his bowel and bladder care as well. I think you are doing a great service by sharing what people don’t know about when someone has a spinal cord injury or people who are in a wheelchair and their issues they deal with on a daily basis. I’m proud of you! Thanks for sharing.
It Is 2020 there is a thing called a super public catheter it goes into your belly and you will have a bag to go pee in and then you only have to change him when he poops and use a sideboard and Hoyer lift I have all that for my husband it makes it a lot easier
The power of love !! Your mother is the heroine, an angel , a goddess ! I love and i so much respect to your mother ! I cried to see the love both of you and your mother ! We can't fathom the depth of her love , a mother's love to her son ! Larger and deeper than oceans ! With so much love to the two of you , my best wishes in every aspect !

Kenia Dias Barbosa Santana Really good translation!
The English is perfect 😉
Wow humans are amazing
You are an amazing young man for sharing and making your normal daily routine visible. It's a good reminder that everyones' "normal routine" is different but it's normal for each one of us. Looks like you form part of a super supportive family & friends network. More power to you and yours. Great hair by the way!
Parents man, heart goes out to anyone who does not have the blessing of a loving parent. It’s something all children deserve and such a blessing if you can have one in your adult years too
I'm crying,absolutely amazing mom. It is a beautiful family,you so strong😍😍

Absolutely loved how informative this video was! I love seeing how happy and optimistic you are! That definitely teaches and inspires me a lot! I honestly learned a lot from you and thank you so much for sharing!

What an amazing mum you have. Thank you for being so brave to show your vulnerability to the world. Big hugs from an oldie from the UK❤
Victor L. Concepcion III Yes, I spelled it correctly.
What a great mom! Nothing like the love of a momma. 😍

Bless you Zack your a cool young man and your parents are truly amazing people .

A mothers love is never ending. Your mom is very strong in body and mind it’s beautiful to see the love and support she gives you. God bless you both
"Woe is me" is no longer in my vocabulary! Love your attitude & your loving mother❣
This Mother is indeed a Hero. 👍👍👍💖💖
Thats a lovely story. So nice that you became close before his passing. Thank you for sharing.
Are you permanently disabled because of a gall bladder operation?
i feel you, my egg donor (can't really call a demon a mom), wanted me to get out of her way while I was crying about suicide, so she could go eat her lunch while watching her fave soap opera...Y and R.
musket 0402 no I was just making the point that when I just needed a little help that my mother wasn't there for me so if I was in his position I wouldn't have my mothers love and support like he does.... I was just pointing out how amazing she is with explaining why
Cheyenne Kedy , I know it really hurts when you're in that Position! Sucks! What Kind of mom never in their life hug or kiss their child.
