im so happy the ladies took up the issue with women safety especially as a little person and being scared of just being picked up and taken advantage of.
i re-read my comment and it looks like im saying I am a little person and experience this myself, I'm not and I don't but I've always wondered about how scary it must be and I've never heard someone talk on it
As a little person myself. I prefer the term little person because I feel like it classes me as a person and I feel as human as everyone else. The term dwarf almost makes me sound like a mystical creature but I don’t mind if it’s used in a medical context. The word midget is highly offensive and is a derogatory word. People used to used that word to bully me and make fun out of me which a lot of other little people have gone through. Thats why most little people hate the word midget and dwarf. It’s crazy to me a lot of people are trying to determine what sounds offensive and what doesn’t when they have never ever gone through the experience of being a little person
Interestingly, I always thought dwarfs in movies and stories were actually little people and not mythical creatures. I always thought little people was the offensive term because I thought adults wouldn't like to be called little.
Ahahah "Dwarf, also knows as midgets are mythical creatures that live in Midgetopia and are aggressive creatures that have the looks of an average person but are really short. They are really fast and dangerous, they like to eat human's and get angry really easily. Their life-span is little between 10-20 years. They live into shadows because they're afraid of light and they don't want to be seen my humans but when they encounter one they attack."
Interesting to know and thanks for clarifying, I was never sure of the "politically correct/non-offensive" term. When I was little, I used to think "midget" was discriminatory since it sounded like I was addressing someone as a thing while "dwarf" reminded of the dwarfs from Lord of the Rings whom I thought were brave, funny, and cool; so I reasoned this must be the "nicer" term. Pretty weird but that was my flawless 8 yr old logic at work I guess. (to clarify, No, I've never addressed someone who's LP either midget or dwarf before)
I'm not a little person but I'm smaller and met a lot of people that are around my height and I gotta say, you just have to be smaller than average to people want to pick you up
I appreciate JC’s honesty with the last question. It probably took a lot of courage to stand in front of other little people and admit that he would choose to change if he could. They all did an incredible good, and I’m so glad they shared their experiences💕
I agree I think he was the most genuine and sweet out of all of them typa guy I would love to be freinds with it seemed like the others were trying to put on a act wether that's because they're in a video or somthing i dont know but yeah guy in the blue cap is a cool dude imo
i don't want to be mean but from what i saw on big brother live feeds 24/7 he's not that great he's do really sexual stuff to people without their permission, he compared the m word to the n word (which yes, it's both derrietory but you can't go around saying the n word like he did) and he's basically alt right (i personal have no problem with either party but i don't like extremist like jc seems to be) like i wish i could say good things about him but i can't he's good at the game of big brother i guess (except for actually trusting tyler an not letting both sides take each othr out equally) but that's it but i guess if you guys want to like him good for you (i'm not saying you can't) but i'm just making people aware the show makes him out to be 'funny' but if you watch thel live feeds it shows a different person
When she mentioned that people have tried to pick her up-- I felt that. As a disabled, wheelchair dependent person I cannot tell you how many times people have decided to just start pushing me like a shopping cart. Its awful but not shocking. For the last time-- Disabled people, little people, deaf people, etc are NOT children. You CANNOT just MOVE A PERSON without their consent. Please respect us.
I mean... dont do it to children either. Children need to learn they have autonomy over their bodies too. If they don't want to hug this new adult you've introduced to them. Don't make them.
Wow, I can't imagine people just moving you like that. Would you hold someone's legs and get them to walk? Your wheelchair is doing the same thing. RUDE. I'm sorry you had to experience that.
Genuine question, how would you like for non-disabled people to respond to this, if at all? I'm a caregiver and some of the people I've cared for and do care for are disabled so I think that if I saw somerhing like this going on my automatic reaction would be to get angry and defensive over the disabled person. That being said, I understand disabled people do not need to be saved per se. I would love to help if possible and welcomed.
I was thinking that the entire time! and then was also wondering where she got it - i imagine shopping for clothes must also be a bit of a hassle as a little person.
My heart goes out to anyone who's physical appearance subjects them to humiliation, shame and belittlement. We are all beautiful specks of stardust in the infinate universe!
Wow I always thought “little person” was condescending and offensive. I never knew midget was a negative word I thought it was a term that defined their condition. Glad I watched this!
Same, I am a millennial so when I first started hearing more and more of "little person" I thought "Wow wtf, that sounds insulting" didn't realize they think the same about "midget" but the opposite of "little person." Glad they were given a voice and able to educate us on that.
@@djrz123 i agree. if someone were to use the word m** unintentionally to describe me, I would kindly let them know it's an offensive word. some lp's who were/are bullied and called m** could be more sensitive and defensive when it comes to that word.
@WaitingToFade Same here. I always got teased for being really short and have been called that. I never thought of it as offensive, just annoying. I'm glad I watched this too
Im not trying to equate it to the N word or F word but, think of it as that way. Its said as a way to define them, a midget, that is what they are. Thats why its offensive. Also, the people who used that word in my life have all used it while making fun of a short person. Rarely was it used to describe someone jokingly or to be cute. Its usually to describe the person and further make fun of them talk about them
I think it was more so asked because there's a possibility of passing on the dwarf gene and having a kid that will have to go through the same hardships and heath complications they had to go through as a little person
I guess it would also be really hard on the woman's body to carry a baby. I'm very short and I found my pregnancies hard work because baby + placenta is a huge chunk and I pushed my organs all over the place.
@@MHS-ql7ee I think she just meant that being small isn't inherently "being less" nor would every population of people necessarily look at it that way. She was referring to ancient egyptian culture rather than the custom in that location. (Not that small people are being treated particularly badly there today, but I don't think she meant to address that.)
i just wanna say thank you to Jubilee. we are never actually represented. like, we are not a fetish, we have feelings, we have a brain, and we are human too.
Ikr, like it’s crazy how much I didn’t know. I didn’t even know the word _midget_ was offensive, I guess I have to learn to focus on the LITTLE things more
Okay, so how are you suppose to be represented when there's only 651,700 of dwarves in the world out of 7,781,467,700 population as of May 2020? You know that you all only make up 0.0833943616075706% of the population, right?
"ask me what my name is and call me by my name" it's so simple yet people can't do it, and the sad things is that it happens daily to anyone who's not considered "the norm"
On average, people don’t do that for “normal” people, so wouldn’t it be weird to treat them special? Why not treat them like just another person? I mean as long as the person isn’t being rude for no reason. It’s like describing someone like “that tall skinny white dude over there”, in this case for example “that short black women”. It’s not meant as an insult, just descriptive like normal. If that makes sense
Even when you're just shorter than average people will tell you they could easily lift you up and carry you around. Somehow people feel the need to tell you this.
@@RacingPepe Yeah. I am a short Asian woman (153cm, idk in inches sorry). I do get told by my friends who've carried me that I'm very light and small. So I get teased by them saying I could get carried or kidnapped by men easily. That is why I don't do solo travel. Safety is definitely an issue when you're smaller than average.
@@xMissEerie Hmm I'm a woman that's 154 cm and have a small frame, and I spent a good chunk of my 20s solo traveling around 6 different continents. I also met a guy who was a little person also solo traveling. You should absolutely be aware of your surroundings and ways to keep yourself safe, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to cut out experiences altogether.
Same, I thought midget was correct and dwarf was bad. In my defense, english isn't my first language... Edit: Before this video, I even thought "little person" was also a bad expression because I thought it sounded childish, therefore probably used to infantilize them. I definitely learned something valuable from this video!
I’m not gonna lie, the term little people always sounded so condescending to me. I don’t have dwarfism but I didn’t realize people actually preferred to be called this
🤣🤣nah frrrrr the way I thought they were being offensive with their title...they had me thinking like I thought yall were supposed to be down with everything😭
I think it shows how history matters when it comes to words. Having negativity attached to them for hundreds of years gives the people experiencing it a pretty sour taste in their mouth. It was used by hateful ppl for too long
I'm not a little person and Ive still been picked up in a club by a man I didn't know, physically lifted. I haven't been back to that club since and I can't imagine feeling like that's a general thing to worry about to keep yourself safe when it was so out of the blue and nothing I prepared for as an average height person
one of the few jubilee vids where everyone is likable. i cried when she was talking about someone being so insistent on picking her up that they ended up passing out. imagine someone that intent on your degradation, as someone who was abused i really felt that, not that it's the same, but that's where my mind went. they were essentially tryna override her personhood, it's an incredibly fcked up attitude.
People from everywhere just wants to be offended by something. I just dont like the heavy editing. I wish they showed when the asian little person shamed the others for saying that others fetischize them.... he tells them they are spoiled and just look for something to complain about.
same. im happy that I get to hear so many opinions all in one space. but sometimes I wish the videos were longer (a bit more uncut) because the speakers definitely have more to say than a 15min video can hold
They seem to like the term “little people.” As someone who doesn’t have dwarfism, this kind of surprised me. I think I’ll just stick to individually asking what they prefer to be called. To the people telling me to call them by their name, I was talking about descriptions. I’m not going to call them “little person x,” every time we meet. If I went missing, I’d want people to describe what stands out. My height, hair and race make me stand out. “Jeans and a t-shirt,” isn’t enough. If I don’t want to offend someone while describing them, I might as well ask first.
Yes! I’m not sure why so many people are uncomfortable with that term in the comments. It doesn’t matter if you feel uncomfortable with that term, they are OK with people using them (at least this group of people).
JC is young and is still learning to love/accept himself. I wasn’t surprised at all he went to “ disagree “ on the last question. May he be whole one day ✨
Yes, also he has an accent so I wouldn't be surprised if he had an even harder time growing up as his community my have been even less "pc"/sensitive than what would be experienced in the US
I think it's a bit condescending to say he's not whole just because he would take the opportunity to be different if he could. He made it clear that he does accept himself the way he is, but he's also aware of the ways he's been limited.
@@micheal2458 I think most people in their early 20s are struggling to be happy with themselves and I’m sure with their condition that’s 100 times harder. But I agree with pistachio, I’m sure in time he’ll learn to be happy with himself as he is
I was surprised how everyone else likes their disadvantage. I know they accepted the situation and maybe dont't see it as a disadvantage anymore but being very different from average is always harder. Could be physical or in your mind or just preferences but yes, being that different will create harder times even in your daily life. Learning to accept my flaws doesn't mean I wouldn't get rid of them if there was an easy solution.
it might be easier to just climb when they need to, rather than carry around an extra thing. I know I sometimes prefer to do things that seem "harder" rather than something that seems "easier" when in the long run it's the other way around. I could carry my cane with me every day, so I have it if I need it. But it's bulky, takes up space in my bag, and adds a lot of weight. Instead, I do my best to assess myself in the morning, and if I'm without it and suddenly could use it, I just struggle and sit down more often. I'm used to it, and it's not so bad that I'd prefer the annoyance of carrying me cane all day every day.
Heightism is definitely a thing, As a tall guy myself with short friends (who are not little people), I've seen how society values tallness, and mistreats short people (who don't have dwarfism), so I could imagine how much harder little people have to deal with so I commend them for not giving up and being strong.
yep. I'm only 4'11, so i'm shorter than average for a 22 year old woman, but also taller than LP. It was so refreshing to cover heightism in my sociology class a couple years ago, because people act like it doesn't exist. It's especially bad for _guys_ my height.
Yeah, I'm not a little person (but I'm I'm pretty close to the upper end of the height range) and people just act like they legitimately can't see me. It's... absurd.
Discrimination in general doesn't make any sense. Why would you discriminate against a black person? They just have a different skin colour. Or why would you discriminate against a gay man? He's just not into girls. Some people are just sad and full of hate
Discrimination is sadly a problem in humanity. People feel they have the right to discriminate against people different from them, and think they’re better than those people. Racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. all make no sense.
It would still not be an accurate representation of a random sample of the whole population tho, for example if this is filmed in California then most of the people would lean far left and would have similar views and upbringing. I like the idea for a virtual version tho and getting people from all over the world! That'd be so cool to see how humans in general differ and agree on things!
I’m shocked by how many people didn’t know the word “midget” is offensive and think “little people” is derogatory. I’ve been calling people out for so many years about this. I’ve been watching the show Little Women LA since 2014 and before that Little People Big World in 2006 and it’s been so informative.
@@dolus123 it's not derogatory (you just use the words in different situations, just like you use male and man in different situations, and if you use it wrong it can sound odd. Like it'd be just as weird to hear "that male over there" instead of "that man over there"), but even if it was where did you get the idea that "fe-male" and "wo-man" would be the reason?
@@AmiriHipHop lol it’s because it reduces people to their sex, and is often used in a demeaning way by some misogynists. The word itself is fine, just the way it’s used.
I know someone that introduces himself as a “dwarf” and always seems frustrated when people refer to him as a “little person.” In the spirit of this series, everyone thinks differently and it’s hard to know what people will prefer unless you talk to them.
Why are you assuming he hasn’t? Just because he doesn’t think the life handed to him was perfect doesn’t mean he can’t accept/be confident with himself while also acknowledging the issues that come along with it. If anything, this take is dismissive of his own problematic experiences that he wouldn’t have had to deal with otherwise. Your comment is what’s wrong with our culture today, instead of being honest with ourselves we act as if very real problems disappear under the guise of blind sympathy and performative compassion.
13:50 I really respect JC's realism and take on self respect. He makes the best out of life and his circumstances, but he doesn't feel the need to cling to his condition. He's come to terms with its advantages and disadvantages, and yet having decided for himself its more negative, he doesn't try and lie or reconvince himself about it, instead accepts it and moves on. I'm not trying to invalidate the other people's opinions, but I feel like a lot of people with adverse life situations always make the case of love yourself no matter what and claim they wouldn't change or whatever. Its a very common thing, and all the more power to those people, but not everyone in the same position is going to feel that way and I respect someone who won't forcibly convince themselves something they don't actually believe. For him it would be silly to make more of his identity being a little person and there's nothing wrong with that either
I feel like JC being a WeHo gay makes his life more complicated and affects his self esteem. Even though the scene adores him and tries to build him up for being a great person. I'm a gay, thank got I live east of La brea.
I kinda get it tbh. I have ADHD which isn't a visible disability but affects my life negatively in a lot of different ways, and while I 100% wish I didn't have to struggle with it it DOES make me who I am because it affects so many aspects of my life. I'd love to not have to do a thousand spreadsheets, or take meds, or ask my loved ones for constant reminders and accountability to function. But on the other hand, growing up with this, how much of it has affected who I am as a person, you know? Our sense of self is a construct, so I know that if I suddenly didn't have ADHD my self perception would change gradually, and it's not like my goals and dreams would change, and certain things would be way easier. But when it's something you know you can't "cure" and just have to work with and affects your life trajectory in such a major way, well, it kind of IS part of you. Your mannerisms, the way you view the world and how you interact with it are directly tied to your condition. If this makes sense, if I could cure it right now, I would, no questions asked. But I am who I am because of it and would never wish I wasn't born with it. It's a complicated feeling.
there's a little person in my school and no one bullies her, she's actually popular. Once I told her that her eyes were pretty and she said 'I know' and I actually was happy that she knew that, I'm happy that her confidence is high.

It's really great.
I so relate to JC's answer about having kids because I have a lot of mental illness and the thought of passing those problems down to my child scares me. I would never want them to go through some of the stuff I went through growing up.
My family has a history of severe depression. I have had it too. I did have children and have always been scared that they will develop it. I was open and honest about it with them. I think it’s helped them watch for the signs of it and nip it in the bud. I totally understand your fear.

I’d love to see a video with people who stutter, but as someone who stutters myself I think it would be a difficult video to make due to the speech impediment itself 😅 still hopeful though!
Yeah but if that’s how people who stutter are, we who don’t have that condition need to learn to accommodate and adjust society for you. The least we can is watch a video. If someone is not patient enough to watch a video on you guys....they’re the worst kind of person in my opinion
I surf with him and consider him a friend. The first time I ever saw him was in the water. What did I say? "Good morning, Handsome." The dude is seriously easy on the eyes. :-)
I am interested if there is added risk for females with dwarfism to have children as they actually have to carry the baby, I wonder if this can cause things like the baby being born too small for example. For a man while you might pass on the traits its still easy for them, as they dont have to carry the baby so as long as their stuff is workin birth wouldnt really be any different.
@@visnau1126 most little people give birth via c section. I follow a woman on Instagram with dwarfism and she’s had 3 healthy children. But I’ve not researched the complications with actual pregnancy.

I watch this series often. Of all the groups/communities you have had on this show, this group showed the most love and support to each other. It was beautiful to witness. There was appreciation of each other’s experiences and even when they disagreed there was deep understanding and honoring the that individual’s journey. This episode was so rich. Thank you.

J.C. is an incredible person and the way he answers his questions so vulnerably broke my heart. You can see that he is deeply hurt by the experiences he faced as a little person, especially in his discussion of not wanting to have children. IIRC, LP have a higher risk of health problems than average height people. I can understand if he doesn't want his children to grow up with pains or something, but other than that, it makes me sad to hear that. They all seem like such kind people and the challenges that they've gone through make for some really good advice from them, if that makes sense (idk how to word what I'm thinking right now lol). I know that being kind and going through a lot doesn't mean that you'd be a good parent, because some people simply don't wanna be a parent and that's fine... but if anyone would be a good parent, it'd be these people (based on what we saw in the video). not to mention, the more LP, the more they are able to be included when accommodations are brought up!

I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to not touch others body without their consent. It’s basic decency

I so relate to JC's answer about having kids because I have a lot of mental illness and the thought of passing those problems down to my child scares me. I would never want them to go through some of the stuff I went through growing up.
Excuse my ignorance but does it always pass down or is it like a recessive trait where there's a certain likelihood?
My family has a history of severe depression. I have had it too. I did have children and have always been scared that they will develop it. I was open and honest about it with them. I think it’s helped them watch for the signs of it and nip it in the bud. I totally understand your fear.
@@vampmode9132 There’s a certain likelihood-with hereditary traits, there is a way to calculate whether they will or not. And if they don’t, THEIR children definitely will.
There are many chronic illnesses/conditions and also some neurological disorders in my family. It's one of the reasons I don't want to have kids.
Awww that guy with an accent makes me so sad when he said he wouldn’t want a kid because he wouldn’t wish what he goes through on anyone else.

I wish we'd heard the women's thoughts on having children esp as they were in the disagree area!
A lot if women don't want children, you'd be surprised. I don't...
I dont think it was necessary for them to contribute on that question. I think we should get to a place where society reacts indifferently to people not wanting kids whether male or (especially) female. Our womb Our choice.

There was appreciation of each other’s experiences and even when they disagreed there was deep understanding and honoring the that individual’s journey. This episode was so rich. Thank you.
I can’t imagine the difficulties and indignities a little person must experience on a daily basis and to me, it breaks my heart. Getting to know all these amazing human beings in this short video, I admire their strength, courage, and confidence to face a world that can be so mean and cruel to those who are different.
J.C. is an incredible person and the way he answers his questions so vulnerably broke my heart. You can see that he is deeply hurt by the experiences he faced as a little person, especially in his discussion of not wanting to have children. I just really appreciate who he is as an individual and think his experiences are so legitimate. Him being so open, even with the painful aspects of his life, made me really think twice about people who have a different life than I do.

Many people use "therapeutic" abortions because they don't want children with disabilities. There will be way fewer people with Down syndrome in the near future. It makes me sad too, but apparently personal choice reigns supreme.
I'm embarrassed to say that I forgot LP even exist, because I've only seen one LP and that was 10+ years ago.
@@John-tr5hn I don't enough about little people health problems to have an opinion and so I'll talk about the "therapeutic" abortions. Ofc people can still get sick and have other sufferings but this one's I can control if I let it happen or not. And I would have other options if I really wanted to give love and raise someone (adoption for example).
it's not just the social experiences, depending on the kind of dwarfish you have, you can suffer from a lot of medical issues. many little people are in and out of the hospital and having different surgeries their whole life.
