Fantastic advice. I've been a professional photographer for 15 years and this used to happen to me a lot when I shot people and fashion - the pretty stuff. However then I moved onto ecommerce work and advertising and no one dared to ask me to work for free again. As bad as the clients are for asking for free work, it's also the fault of us creators for ever agreeing to it. Like you said, we need to value our work and value ourselves. They are showing zero respect to us by giving us these "opportunities", why should we allow them to do that? Unfortunately due to this being such a competitive field with a lot of creators agreeing to work on these barter terms, the clients seem to have gotten used to these freebies.

Yes and when phones can deliver good results the advantages of a professional delivering them only a a fraction of a quality improvement(big difference to us, small to them) they see it as it’s better to get that lower quality for free than pay for the pro’s

You're so right. Even though getting to these special locations can be brilliant, they are by no means free with the kit, travel and editing that are needed. Will have to try and create a document like you have. Companies seem to think that both Photography and Videography are simply things to do and Time-Lapses are by no means quick

Spot on. Oh the things we are asked to do for free and "for exposure"... Until exposure pays the bills, let's stick with money.

Glad you’re with me on this, unless the compensation can be easily measured say on a press trip with flights, hotel stay, experiences etc, coming to a total of say £1,000 , sure I can offer that in my time of day rate and whatever is left with usage licenses, but a free invite somewhere for an hour or two shooting is rarely worth the same as our time

You’re welcome, stock prices aren’t anything that’s secretive while exclusive prices depend on clients usage needs👍🏻

Glad to hear it Mattia, yeah it’s crazy how some huge brands think for the privilege of getting access to shoot from somewhere we’re all going to tag and mention them all over social and give them all our stuff to use for free, it’s crazy 🤣but yet lots of others do just that and that’s not on
