Even if we are convinced that it did work out to produce an exact regular hexagon, for learning purposes it would be important to talk about how we even thought to do that key move in the first place.

That's actually not a dot, that's the letter "O" it's to label the center point. if you look carefully to the right of the "O" there is a small + shape and that's the true center of the circle.
