I, too, played the demo. The first thing I noticed upon walking around the town for the first five minutes was how blurry my character was. And when first making your character, the character models for the male, female, and non binary characters all look like the same model, but with different poses and slightly different visual changes, which definitely put me off when creating my character. And you're not alone on the clunky combat system AND the annoying day cycle, it definitely irked me a bit when playing. The background for the town and other areas, along with the character portraits, are beautifully drawn. And despite Harvestella's obvious flaws, I did find myself enjoying the demo in the time I spent playing it. But $60 is a bit much for a farming Sim that doesn't even handle the farming aspect of its intended genre properly. As such, until Harvestella goes on sale for $35 or less, I will pass on buying it. It was good, but not good enough to be sold as a First Party Nintendo exclusive game.
Yeah, I think the price point is too high. Maybe it’ll go on sale for the holidays? The trailer got me so hype and I couldn’t wait to play the demo but I was kind of disappointed. It was supposed to do so much. I just don’t think it’s polished enough and the combat drove me absolutely nuts. The characters and story so far was nice though.

I have played a lot of Squenix games and I have a feeling that they will listen to the community if there is a lot of problems with it and they see that people are not happy with it. The thing that really bothered me when I played the demo was how long the loading screens were! I'm ok with it not being an open world game but waiting this long every time I want to go somewhere ruins the experience for me (And the map isn't even that big in the demo) Also, I couldn't see the point of all these dialogues where NPCs ask you questions just for your answers to have absolutely no impact whatsoever
Yeah... after playing the demo I decided I was definitely not paying $60 for this. It is beautifully done graphically for the most part (aside from the weird blurriness thing), and I am interested in where the story is going, but all the elements are just lacking for me. Like you said, everything was clumsy. I don't like the timing mechanism, farming seems sort of like an afterthought and nothing would be lost if it weren't there, and there was no incentive to get to know the townspeople at all (at least there didn't seem to be any sort of relationship meter). Maybe in a year or so when it goes 75% off and through a couple of patches I'll pick it up.
Playing the demo made me so dizzy, and I thought it was the first person perspective. Had to put it down 10 mins in since it gave a migraine. Now I realize it wasn't the perspective so much as the blurriness that made the experience less than ideal.

I think I was expecting a lot from such a high price as well, especially since games like Ooblets nail all these things in their own style and really flow together.
I bought this out of curiosity and my impressions was that the actual game barrages me with story constantly, more than I expected. Somehow I'm super uncurious about the mysterious astronaut girl they inexplicably parked into the bed next to mine and just want to do farming, but alas the mayor has walked into my bedroom to ask the obvious and I must press A several times. It's good to know it gets better later on. :)
Spot on opinion! Especially with the blur, and the price. After the demo my initial hopes were scaled back a bit. Like you I was hoping it would raise the bar, and I barely had enough time to blink in this game let alone raise anything lol. Maybe a sale.
It shouldn't have marketed itself as a faming sim. It's and rpg with farming elements. People who say this game isn't worth 60 dollars didn't want an rpg. It's a great rpg like final fantasy or tales series. But because it marketed itself as a farming sim the people who would enjoy this game think its a farming sim... when it's a fantastic rpg.
That's great to hear actually, my favorite genre is JRPGs and my second favorite is farming haha. I feel like this game was made for me. The demo was disappointing but I feel like I would enjoy the full game once it gets going.

This is going to be one of those games that is not going to be spoken about much after its launch but in time going to have a very strong fan base behind it of dedicated players that is begging for a sequel.

I noticed how odd the combat was, it’s definitely because there is no blocking at least right away like you said. I think I’m going to watch gameplay because it’s very interesting concept and story. I just can’t about the price 😭
Tbh if Rune Factory 5 had these graphics and the village was smaller, RF5 would have been in A or S tier for me on a ranking scale. But RF5 still has soul so it’s pretty good. As well as Harvestella but at least it wasn’t like a 20 hour tutorial at the start compared to Dragon Quest Builder’s 2 did. Def recommend rushing to chapter 3 for Harvestella.

But the demo showed that between the blurred graphics, the complex fighting system, the feeling of being rushed, and the price. I just can’t. It was either this game or Dreamlight Valley before the new Pokémon games come out. Add with so many problems I just couldn’t.
I usually get both. I don’t have many people around me that play Pokémon. Plus I have a living Dex (regular and shiny) going. And I would like to keep it going.

I was planning on playing the demo for this game. Then that big sale on the eshop happened and now I'm playing Spiritfarer and once I'm done with that I plan to play Atelier Ryza.

I'm playing the demo right now and calling it a "farming simulator" is VERY generous. Unless you literally ignore the story and only buy seeds from the general store, you spend more time battling than you do farming. Also the day cycle is so quick. You have barely any time before the game forces you to go back home and rest. You cannot cook until you have $2000 which takes a LOT of selling of crops and goods. I also have an issue with the character model which is basically female regardless of which gender you picked making customization non-existent. I love Square Enix & their games but this one is a pass for me.
I've preordered the game and I'm still really excited it. Square Enix games usually sell at full price, but I would have been happy if they'd taken 10 or 20 off. The blurriness isn't a huge issue for me but I'm hoping that if we dig in beyond the demo, the value will be more apparent.
My biggest issue with this game is the character creation / gender system. First, they offer you a choice between "male, female, or non-binary," which conflates biological sex (the first two options) with gender identity (the last one). I could forgive that and choose to pass it off as a language/translation issue, but then the game goes on to offer you a character customization screen in which every single character looks and presents as stereotypically female. Don't get me wrong, I get that in certain (especially Japanese) graphical styles, guys are often presented with more feminine features than you might see in much of western media, but as a trans guy, I've had more than enough of the whole "being a guy forced to dress, act, and sound like a woman" thing for one lifetime. If the devs wanted everyone to play as a super feminine character, why not just have the game feature a locked girl/woman character as the lead? I would be fine with that, even though I likely wouldn't play myself due to dysphoria. I'm all for more representation for girls and women in video games. Just don't pretend to give players an option, only to make every single option look and sound the same. Sooo yeah. This one looks to be a pretty big disappointment. But that's okay. There are plenty of other games to play - both recently released and soon to be out. I don't mind saving my money for a more deserving game.

Have you heard of Wylde Flowers? I’ve been hooked on it & haven’t heard many people talking about it which is a shame. Story is great, farming is fun, controls are tight. It has witchy themes, which may not be for everyone but as a Wiccan myself, it feels tailored to me lol. Even if you’re not pagan, tho, I think it has a lot of appeal for people.
When I originally saw the trailer for this game I was interested. However, the lack of a marriage mechanic and then videos from other RUclips gamers discussing the problems with the game made me decide against it. I would likely have kept it in consideration though if there was marriage if I am being honest By the way does anyone understand how Quietess works? For example how long is it and when does it appear? I think I remember hearing it happens after every season but I am unsure about that and and since it’s a season does that mean it’s the 30 in game days or is it different?

I liked the demo, mostly for the story part and cozy feels but yeah, like you said about the price, i won't be picking this game full price day one, i'll wait for a price drop. I noticed the blurriness but it's not too bad. The days are short but isn't it like that in stardew valley too? It's slightly annoying i must admit.
I ended up cancelling my per order after playing the demo. I felt time went to quickly and I didn’t enjoy the look of the character movement. I might get it on deal later, it’s not worth the price
UGH yesss, I kept blinking when I was playing the demo thinking my eyes were just not focusing, it actually started hurting my eyes after a bit. I was so looking forward to it after the initial trailer but am quite disappointed after the demo. I hate the lack of a dodge option in battles right off and the character "customization" was severely lacking. I did enjoy the overall story bits we got and while the days are far too fast I liked how things took time, etc. This being a triple A dev and so ridiculously expensive is shocking really. I might watch for gameplay vids and sales as I'll never pay full price for it.
I'm getting both copies of Pokemon so...lol xD this is going to have to wait. also I recommend playing Rune factory 4 and 5 or in general this game is literally like RF.
This First Look makes clear, that you never playe rune factory. and i highly recommend it to you. (Farm+RPG, you can tame and RIDE animals AND its a official spin off of season of storiey (or the original harvest moon), so they know farming). And it has voice acting... kinda. Have Fun. :)
For that price I don’t think it sounds worth it unfortunately. That’s so funny the main character is blurred. It def seems like a style choice and oversight on their end. #BraiseTheChicken
The blurry look and the price is really putting me off the game slightly I hope that square enix can fix this before official launch. Apart from that it seems like a grower of a game slow but a grower but my eyes can't take the bad blurriness of this game sadly. I had super high hopes for this game and to me, it just flopped. The graphics, the odd running, clunky mechanics, it's just not worth the price point. The character creation is so odd as well. There are just multiple issues going on.

Oh yeah, this game on the switch is HORRIDDDD which is a shame, I was so confused and thought I was going crazy until I realized it is just a blurry game on switch. I got in on steam. Plays so well and so worth it (Play it with a controller though)
The Demo is the reason I am not spending that much money. I liked a few things but the constant blurryness actually makes me feel sick, specially since I play handheld almost always. Also the movements look cheap and cut off to be and aweward, no voice acting.. yeah to many reasons I feel Stardew is still better. xD I wait for when it comes out and people can give a full review but I doubt this will be for me.

It's still blurry. I guess SE wanted people to admire the environments more than their characters. Given the limited customization of the main character; it's not too big of an issue.

The characters appearances wasn't my issue. Combat was as I find it cumbersome having to switch from one job to another but that switch has a cool down. You have to memorize fairly quickly combat know-hows, which is a lot for a player like me who has some neuro issues that have to be accounted for. I'd expected this game to be more streamlined than this, especially since this is SquareEnix and not Xseed. I don't know, the demo leaves me disappointed and mixed. This game feels all over the place but at heart, it is fun.

This just sounds stressful playing an RPG with side farming on a clock. I'd rather play one or the other that's more polished. Maybe the graphical issues are better in the full version, sometimes the demo is an earlier build. Or maybe it's the choice they made.
I would get the game but the graphics just aren't worth it, and considered how expensive it is it's pretty disappointing. Also, i got the worst headache after playing like 15min of the demo so it's definitely not worth it. It's like I'm buying a migraine for myself for 50€ lol. And i don't know if the blurriness will be fixed because the latest rune factory game looks almost as bad, but i think harvestella looks worse.
I had alot of fun with the game but I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks it's blurry and overpriced. Also the game doesn't feel like it has much depth, like walking into the npc houses and nothings in there or going to smithy and she just stands there and pops out better gear not much interaction! The game is not worth 60 dollars.
I was so hyped by the trailer, and so disappointed with the demo. The art style at times is stunning but at others the opposite. The camera movement made me queezie, I suffer from motion illness so this did not help. Being visually impaired the time was way too short, and took away from my motivation to continue, plus way too much reading to do with no audio. I was expecting more for the proposed price. I think I will stick with other games like Hokko and ooblets.

Harvestella reminds me of the Atelier games with Final Fantasy. Currently, I own Ryza 1 and 2 and Meruru, and crafting spending TIME sounds familiar.

You have barely any time before the game forces you to go back home and rest. You cannot cook until you have $2000 which takes a LOT of selling of crops and goods.
I also have an issue with the character model which is basically female regardless of which gender you picked making customization non-existent. I love Square Enix & their games but this one is a pass for me.
I've preordered the game and I'm still really excited it. Square Enix games usually sell at full price, but I would have been happy if they'd taken 10 or 20 off. The blurriness isn't a huge issue for me but I'm hoping that if we dig in beyond the demo, the value will be more apparent.
My biggest issue with this game is the character creation / gender system. First, they offer you a choice between "male, female, or non-binary," which conflates biological sex (the first two options) with gender identity (the last one). I could forgive that and choose to pass it off as a language/translation issue, but then the game goes on to offer you a character customization screen in which every single character looks and presents as stereotypically female.
Don't get me wrong, I get that in certain (especially Japanese) graphical styles, guys are often presented with more feminine features than you might see in much of western media, but as a trans guy, I've had more than enough of the whole "being a guy forced to dress, act, and sound like a woman" thing for one lifetime.
If the devs wanted everyone to play as a super feminine character, why not just have the game feature a locked girl/woman character as the lead? I would be fine with that, even though I likely wouldn't play myself due to dysphoria. I'm all for more representation for girls and women in video games. Just don't pretend to give players an option, only to make every single option look and sound the same.
Sooo yeah. This one looks to be a pretty big disappointment. But that's okay. There are plenty of other games to play - both recently released and soon to be out. I don't mind saving my money for a more deserving game.
I felt the same, I was super on board until I saw the price tag. I downloaded the demo and played it for a bit and was very underwhelmed. Glad I didn’t waste my money

Have you heard of Wylde Flowers? I’ve been hooked on it & haven’t heard many people talking about it which is a shame. Story is great, farming is fun, controls are tight. It has witchy themes, which may not be for everyone but as a Wiccan myself, it feels tailored to me lol. Even if you’re not pagan, tho, I think it has a lot of appeal for people.

I also noticed they used a lot of assets from Final Fantasy Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn. The kids look like they used Lalafell body meshes.
When I originally saw the trailer for this game I was interested. However, the lack of a marriage mechanic and then videos from other RUclips gamers discussing the problems with the game made me decide against it. I would likely have kept it in consideration though if there was marriage if I am being honest
By the way does anyone understand how Quietess works? For example how long is it and when does it appear? I think I remember hearing it happens after every season but I am unsure about that and and since it’s a season does that mean it’s the 30 in game days or is it different?

I ended up cancelling my per order after playing the demo. I felt time went to quickly and I didn’t enjoy the look of the character movement. I might get it on deal later, it’s not worth the price
UGH yesss, I kept blinking when I was playing the demo thinking my eyes were just not focusing, it actually started hurting my eyes after a bit.
I was so looking forward to it after the initial trailer but am quite disappointed after the demo. I hate the lack of a dodge option in battles right off and the character "customization" was severely lacking.
I did enjoy the overall story bits we got and while the days are far too fast I liked how things took time, etc. This being a triple A dev and so ridiculously expensive is shocking really. I might watch for gameplay vids and sales as I'll never pay full price for it.
I'm getting both copies of Pokemon so...lol xD this is going to have to wait. also I recommend playing Rune factory 4 and 5 or in general this game is literally like RF.
This First Look makes clear, that you never playe rune factory. and i highly recommend it to you. (Farm+RPG, you can tame and RIDE animals AND its a official spin off of season of storiey (or the original harvest moon), so they know farming). And it has voice acting... kinda. Have Fun. :)
For that price I don’t think it sounds worth it unfortunately. That’s so funny the main character is blurred. It def seems like a style choice and oversight on their end. #BraiseTheChicken

The blurry look and the price is really putting me off the game slightly I hope that square enix can fix this before official launch. Apart from that it seems like a grower of a game slow but a grower but my eyes can't take the bad blurriness of this game sadly. I love rpgs and farming games so I am a little disappointed on a game I was really looking forward to playing. Maybe if they fix the blurred vision and reduce the price further down the line I may buy it then.

I had super high hopes for this game and to me, it just flopped. The graphics, the odd running, clunky mechanics, it's just not worth the price point. The character creation is so odd as well. There are just multiple issues going on.

Oh yeah, this game on the switch is HORRIDDDD which is a shame, I was so confused and thought I was going crazy until I realized it is just a blurry game on switch. I got in on steam. Plays so well and so worth it (Play it with a controller though)
The Demo is the reason I am not spending that much money.
I liked a few things but the constant blurryness actually makes me feel sick, specially since I play handheld almost always.
Also the movements look cheap and cut off to be and aweward, no voice acting.. yeah to many reasons I feel Stardew is still better.

The characters appearances wasn't my issue. Combat was as I find it cumbersome having to switch from one job to another but that switch has a cool down. You have to memorize fairly quickly combat know-hows, which is a lot for a player like me who has some neuro issues that have to be accounted for. I'd expected this game to be more streamlined than this, especially since this is SquareEnix and not Xseed.
I don't know, the demo leaves me disappointed and mixed. This game feels all over the place but at heart, it is fun.
Definitely getting this for the Steam Deck instead.

This just sounds stressful playing an RPG with side farming on a clock. I'd rather play one or the other that's more polished.
Maybe the graphical issues are better in the full version, sometimes the demo is an earlier build. Or maybe it's the choice they made.
I would get the game but the graphics just aren't worth it, and considered how expensive it is it's pretty disappointing. Also, i got the worst headache after playing like 15min of the demo so it's definitely not worth it.
It's like I'm buying a migraine for myself for 50€ lol.
And i don't know if the blurriness will be fixed because the latest rune factory game looks almost as bad, but i think harvestella looks worse.

Also the game doesn't feel like it has much depth, like walking into the npc houses and nothings in there or going to smithy and she just stands there and pops out better gear not much interaction! The game is not worth 60 dollars.

I was so hyped by the trailer, and so disappointed with the demo. The art style at times is stunning but at others the opposite. The camera movement made me queezie, I suffer from motion illness so this did not help. Being visually impaired the time was way too short, and took away from my motivation to continue, plus way too much reading to do with no audio. I was expecting more for the proposed price. I think I will stick with other games like Hokko and ooblets.
I’ll be getting Bratz instead !
The fact that stood out to me the most were the number of loading screens for unnecessary things and the poor animations. Which, for 60€, could be way better. Just the normal actions, the talking, the moving, it's all so annoying and too simply made.
I just bought a Switch but really find it hard they justify ANY of their full price games :(. Love the system though.
