The worst thing about Ghostbusters 2016 (although I didn't watch the film myself, who did?) is that it started the whole "blame the audience before (and after) the movie is released" mindset of movie/tv makers. That mindset became so popular, "its never my fault" and it has done so much damage. Having the Hollywood aristocracy spit on and kick the "plebs" has made Hollywood more unpopular than previously. Honestly, the poor quality of script writers and their need to blame some-one else has been the downfall of movies for at least a decade now....
I watched it, I didn't think it was terribly bad - the lower side of mediocre, perhaps - but not terrible. And, I say you're right: it's mostly harmless, the sort of movie that would have come and gone without notice had it been released before Gamer-Gate, but after an initial wave of distaste from veterans of the Gamer-Gate wars, its worst crime was that its cast, crew, and the infotainment industry in general just couldn't keep themselves from trying to pick fights with the audience, while putting off movie audiences with no stake in the Gamer-Gate game, and setting off a bigger wave of backlash from movie audiences in general. There's a lot of comments to this video that claim that "Ghostbusters 2016" was the dawn of "woke" Hollywood, but that's simply not true: there were LOTS of "woke" movies before it, many of them a LOT more woke than GB16 (see "The Haunting (1999)" for an almost completely forgotten example from several years before! Well, I mean, don't actually WATCH it - it''s genuinely terrible! - but if you're unfamiliar with it, at least take a glance over audience reviews of it!) The reason nobody remembers those earlier woke bombs is that they happened too early for gamers and moviegoers who had been pushed too far to take shots at them, and nobody involved with them were motivated to pick fights with apathetic audiences who just didn't want to see their woke baloney....
@pietrayday9915 that's pretty much the vast majority of franchise movies, unfortunately. Dumb people on both sides try to make it be like a cultural war when the actual product is forgettable and not worth fighting over in the first place

@@theroguecybersoldier2629 Not quite. I have the remastered version of the game on Nintendo Switch and for whatever reason they cut the parade part out of the game which results in an awkward dialog that makes it sound like you missed something that happened which you in fact did since they removed it from the game. Me too, loved original 2 movies. Named a tuxedo cat Viggo. I was upset at start of 2016 when they killed people in it. Women can be funny, but not slapstick like they looked after and original was not slapstick either. 2016 was like maybe mean girl comedy, the bullies kind. Of course that was their hay day when they had the ear of those who were not paying attention. Then when they got the dementia puppet into office and saw the entire world tank they lost their reputation.

Sheesh, they STILL keep talking about it 8 years later? This, of course, was the film that started the trend of alt-left-infected corporate studios publicly insulting customers.
I'd argue it was already started before GB16, and was in motion for a while already through the video game industry, with "Gamer-Gate" being where the opening shots from both sides were first fired. It's probably heresy of me to say so, but I really don't think Ghostbusters 2016 was all that terrible, nor was it especially woke by today's standards - it's worst crimes, IMHO, were its mediocrity, compounded heavily by the temper-tantrums from the cast and crew who just couldn't handle the criticism - fair or not - with a dash of grace and humility --with that failure of grace and humility being a running theme being a running theme for a LOT of woke failures ever since. That, and the bad timing to be released just after Gamer-Gate had come to virtual blows, the woke Community Organizers took a beating, and the "New Right" - ordinary gamers who were tired of getting crapped on - were energized and looking for their next fight. I don't think the backlash would have been nearly as bad for them, if they weren't caught up in the Twitter echo-chambers, convincing themselves that almost everyone in the world was "woke" aside from a couple White Supreme Pizza Christian National Terror spoil-sports that could easily be brushed off with abuse and insults. Had this movie been made and released a few years earlier, I think nobody would have cared, and if it had been made several years from now and the cast and crew managed to keep their politics and hurt feelings to themselves, nobody would have cared. It might have never have been the hit they wanted and hoped for, but it wouldn't have been the poster child for everything wrong with Hollywood over the last decade. I don't think anyone could have stopped that Twitter echo-chamber from prompting the entire "progressive" infotainment industry from swarming out after Gamer-Gate to sacrifice themselves on the altar of wokeness, though - it seems like the whole bunch have programmed themselves to grab armloads of money and run into the nearest fire screaming "TAKE THAT!", expecting nothing but cheers like they got in the days when Twitter was on giant progressive "Safe Space".....

It wasn’t only men that didn’t like the movie. Where then were the woman audience? Surely woman supported this movie and spent their hard earned money at the theatres. Wait…..what?
As a woman, I watched it during a church activity. I only remember Chris Hemsworth and his part wasn't great. I also saw a movie about a guy who was turned into a cat on the same night. The fact that I even remember the cat one existed means it's more memorable. The cat one wasn't great either and I'm a dog person but it was odd enough for me to remember its existence. The cat movie with less of a budget was more memorable for me than 2016 Ghostbusters. Even if I only remember it to make fun of it every once in a while, the cat reincarnation movie made an impact.
Just remember: Women are the majority demographic. Women also make about 80% of the purchasing decisions in households. Anything that ISN'T created and marketed SPECIFICALLY to men ONLY fails because not enough WOMEN support it.

Ghostbusters 2016 is the movie that forever changed the entertainment industry forever and despite the movie being 8 years old where still seeing the effects of the movie to this day
Unfortunately, it started way earlier than that. We saw early warning signs when they made Heimdall and Miss Moneypenny black in Thor and Skyfall respectively, and with the Annie 2014 movie and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, and once Black Lives Matter and GamerGate came into existence. Ghostbusters: Answer the Call was just when it became increasingly apparent that the weirdos and activists had officially taken over the entertainment industry.
it wasnt just a multiverse, they laid out plans for an entire Ghostbusters 2016 empire before production for the movie began, they wanted to do everything with it, video games, cartoons, streaming series, crossover events, toys, comics, then nobody saw the damn movie so it got scraped and cost Sony a shit ton.
The downfall of modern entertainment started right here. Gaming, comics, films and television are still dealing with the fallout and trying to climb out of that massive hole. Or dig deeper, depending on who it is.
Paul Feig can not admit that his movie just bombed with the vast majority of Ghostbusters fans and the normies . In his mind , it's not his fault, so it must be ours. There used to be a time when society would call this BS out, but now that everyone has to take sides, normally down political lines, this is no longer the case. Do wonder if all this has raised it's head again due to Daisy Ridley blaming men hating female characters causing Disney Star Wars to fail, recently.
Afterlife is a worthy continuation. It was made by Jason Reitman with Ivan Reitman’s blessing. And it had a teenage girl Ghostbuster, Phoebe Spengler, carrying the legacy of her grandfather.
And it treated Egon and the others with respect. Sure they might have retired, and gone their separate ways, but they weren’t broken down losers like the OT cast in Star Wars films by Disneyz

Paul Feig: I'm just here not to offend anyone Also Paul Feig in the same damn article: *Directly attacks Trump voters and men and blames them for his own faliures.*
I'm actually a Trump voter, and I didn't think the movie was all that terrible or offensive - I'd give it 2/5 or 3/5 stars, depending on my mood - it wasn't much worse than "barely mediocre", and maybe enjoyable when I'm in the right mood. The movie's biggest problem, in my opinion, is the fact that Paul Feig and too many other people connected to the movie just couldn't keep their big, stupid yaps shut, and couldn't resist doubling down on woke rake-stepping: If they'd just handled the criticism with a dash of grace and humility, and kept their politics out of it, and the infotainment industry in general hadn't chosen it as their senseless hill to die on, this movie wouldn't have gotten anything like the backlash it gets, and I think it might have had a chance of picking up an audience later on who would be willing to say, "how is it I've never heard of this movie? It's not as good as the original, but I can think of worse ways to spend an hour and a half of my life...." I mean, the likes of Turner Classic Movies (at least back when I watched that channel) padded its schedule with movies like that, which bombed at the box office on release, but found small audiences later on once whatever worked against it at the time wore off and time marched onward..... Sometimes such movies become cult classics - I doubt "Ghostbusters 2016" would have quite gone that far, but it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen by any standard, and the Ghostbusters brand name could have given it at least a small second life from curiosity-seekers who enjoyed the original, after the woke era finally dies off and people can give it a fair chance on its own terms. Instead, it's going to roll on for another 30 years or however long it takes for Feig and the rest to finally get rolled off to rest homes and stop bitterly ruminating on their failure to make it big in movie High School like that guy with the football from "Napoleon Dynamite"....
It's always someone else's fault when they fail, but they always are the first to say that when they succeed, they are completely responsible for the success. It's blame-shifting, and since it's safe in Hollywood to blame and attack men, Trump voters, white and Christians, that is always the people they blame when they fail.
Hatred implies we cared about it. Which, we clearly didn't. And, just for impartiality's sake I watched it so you didn't have to, and it doesn't have a single redeeming quality. The remaining original cast must had been envious of Harold Ramis being the only one who didn't get to see it, let alone be part of such mess. I'm certain it gave Bill Murray Garfield flashbacks. L very much earned. Paul Feig is an architect of his own demise.
The year is 2055. Hollywood has finally adapted to the new, emerging environment and providing the public a variety of new content and types of media. The Message is long-since dead and gone. Yet the access media still brings up Ghostbusters 2016 and calls for sequels to be made to that film.

@@RustCole01 A perfect comparison is how well the first Charlie's Angels movie did compared to the woke reboot. This kind of refutes all of the silly accusations of sexism and woman hating from the audience, and yet they still tried to make such claims after their terrible movie failed. No one really cares about a predominately female cast, the problem is when there's an agenda to constantly swap genders and races of established IPs that's soon followed by insults and denigration of the race or gender that was changed. If this happened in reverse, these people who champion the swaps would hypocritically have a stroke over it and probably even become violent about it. There have been tons of female-led things for decades upon decades that people loved because they were actually good and the people involved didn't preach some agenda at the audience. Now, when things fail, they like to pretend it's because people hate women or some such nonsense. No one is devolving, most of the people who hated GB 2016 still love the older stuff or even the newer stuff that's actually good. Consider how The Critical Drinker is consistently called sexist and an extremist, but one of his most-recommended shows was Arcane, an animated series with female lead characters that even has rainbow representation. (If I put the letters, my posts often get deleted for some weird reason.) I guarantee a majority of the people who would avoid GB 2016 loved strong female characters like Ripley from the Alien franchise and Sarah from Terminator.
- but if you're unfamiliar with it, at least take a glance over audience reviews of it!)
The reason nobody remembers those earlier woke bombs is that they happened too early for gamers and moviegoers who had been pushed too far to take shots at them, and nobody involved with them were motivated to pick fights with apathetic audiences who just didn't want to see their woke baloney....
@pietrayday9915 that's pretty much the vast majority of franchise movies, unfortunately. Dumb people on both sides try to make it be like a cultural war when the actual product is forgettable and not worth fighting over in the first place

I hate when developers do that and especially when they do that and don't make it explicitly clear that they're doing it. They did it without telling anyone.

I'm actually a Trump voter, and I didn't think the movie was all that terrible or offensive - I'd give it 2/5 or 3/5 stars, depending on my mood - it wasn't much worse than "barely mediocre", and maybe enjoyable when I'm in the right mood. The movie's biggest problem, in my opinion, is the fact that Paul Feig and too many other people connected to the movie just couldn't keep their big, stupid yaps shut, and couldn't resist doubling down on woke rake-stepping:
If they'd just handled the criticism with a dash of grace and humility, and kept their politics out of it, and the infotainment industry in general hadn't chosen it as their senseless hill to die on, this movie wouldn't have gotten anything like the backlash it gets, and I think it might have had a chance of picking up an audience later on who would be willing to say, "how is it I've never heard of this movie? It's not as good as the original, but I can think of worse ways to spend an hour and a half of my life...."
I mean, the likes of Turner Classic Movies (at least back when I watched that channel) padded its schedule with movies like that, which bombed at the box office on release, but found small audiences later on once whatever worked against it at the time wore off and time marched onward.....
Sounds like Trump Derangement Syndrome.
It's always someone else's fault when they fail, but they always are the first to say that when they succeed, they are completely responsible for the success. It's blame-shifting, and since it's safe in Hollywood to blame and attack men, Trump voters, white and Christians, that is always the people they blame when they fail.
But the Movie came out 8 Years ago and I just assume the Film's hatred was old News by now.
Hatred implies we cared about it. Which, we clearly didn't.

(If I put the letters, my posts often get deleted for some weird reason.)
I guarantee a majority of the people who would avoid GB 2016 loved strong female characters like Ripley from the Alien franchise and Sarah from Terminator. And as far as geek culture goes, people have loved everything from Princess Leia and the original live-action Wonder Woman TV series to Xena the Warrior Princess and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
@@shawnpatrick1877 Exactly bro. I mean, I'm over 40 now. I watched Xena Warrior Princess and Hercules when my Grandma used to babysit me. She only had like 15 channels on her TV.
But it was still entertaining. People liked that show. And that was like 35 years ago. The Underworld movies were also super well liked. Never hear people saying it's a woke Blade rip-off. It was it's own movie, which spawned a successful franchise.
Although I am happy to indulge in some misogyny from time to time, I certainly wouldn't trash a good movie or show because it stars mostly women. Good content can stand on it's own two feet. It doesn't need tolkenism to succeed.
Ghosbusters 2016 was the original Acolyte--they will. not. let. it. _go._
Oh please make GhostBuster 2024 or 2025 with the same cast and the same writing, I love seeing rich people dumping money into the drain and show you a surprise Pikachu face wondering why they're losing money.
Can't. They're out of money to piss away
@@drunklink350 Maybe they can check if Amazon is looking to fund a new show to revel in the same kind of "success" that they've been having with Rings of Power and... what else have they been putting out there, actually? Was Mindy's bad Velma impersonation one of theirs or was that something else?
The trouble is that for that kind of money, they could have made a really good movie. But instead they decided to sh*t all over the original and make a mockery of the 1984 Ghostbusters. A pity for them that people actually like the original movies more than his attempt.
We need to remember Paul Feig is defined by his worst movie: Ghostbusters 2016. But we're not, so he should probably shut up about it.
The main "Dude" looking for a fight is Paul Feig.
I wont say Ghostbusters 2016 was 💩, because that would be an unkind insult to 💩.
We didnt want a reboot. We wanted a continuation. Simple.
Those theaters must have been PACKED with women, since men were apparently the only ones who hated this movie.
Just like 'Barbie'.
I think I was the only woman in the theater when I saw it. There were guys there, but none of them laughed. I was banging my head on the handle of my cane throughout the whole thing. Because of how stupid it was and sent women 4 decades back.
Haven't even watched the video and I can already smell a fallback tactic.
"If all else fails, act like it's still 2016, where our tactics worked in full strength."
I dunno why some people act like we’re still in 2016. They call themselves progressives and yet they don’t progress.
The thumbnail matched my sentiments exactly! SHEESH! They are still griping about Ghostbusters 2016!
Don't want to alarm everyone but YT just linked Ghost Busters 2016 to this video
Truly the scariest thing possible
ROFL - I'm surprised they didn't add the link as a "fact checking" blurb from Wikipedia... "Fact Checked: FALSE! Ghost Busters 2016 was a movie made in 2016 which was totally great but unfairly picked on by the Extreme Right Christian National Terrors, and Hollywood DID totally get over it, it's everyone else who can't get over it, and that's why we keep bringing it up and complaining abut its failure!"
