I'm not looking forward to Hermione becoming black, or Snape becoming a single mother EDIT: For the idiots who actually think Hermione is black. From the HP Wiki: - *Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 21 (Hermione's Secret)* - "Hermione's white face was sticking out from behind a tree." - A drawing by J.K. Rowling clearly has Dean's skin shaded in; as Hermione's is not that makes her lighter skinned. - *Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Chapter 5 (An Excess of Phlegm)* - "But when Harry arrived downstairs ten minutes later, fully dressed and carrying his empty breakfast tray, it was to find Hermione sitting at the kitchen table in great agitation, while Mrs Weasley tried to lessen her resemblance to half a panda." Pandas are black and white; Hermione would only resemble a panda if the bruise was showing up on white skin.
I would welcome a black Hermoine, if the trade off is her being less arrogant and insufferable. I love the fact that the character is interested in magic and absorbs all knowledge available, that's relatable ... but I *hate* how she looks down her nose on others, including Ron. She's awfully close being a "girlboss" imo.
@@bjoardarI wouldn't. I won't. Hermione is white. Period. If the series is to be faithful to the books, then she won't be blackwashed AND she'll be an insufferable know-it-all. Anything else is inadmissible.
I'm still waiting WB casting a minority actress and the series start calling hermione "mudblood". And somehow the start to blame the audience who dare to criticize the casting.
The Mudblood thing is a major reason why she needs to remain white. If she's brown skinned the Pureblood 'racism' will not work, it will be far too easy to mistake for real world racism ... oh, unless they make Malfoy black too 🙄 No.
Hermione's gonna cut him off before he gets to that part by telling the white boy to shut his mouth. Ron and Harry will clap(actually, probably do jazz hands) in the background while cheering "YAAAAS SLAY QUEEN!!!"
If two massive corporations end up making this show together, there's no way that at least one of the main three characters doesn't get current-year'd.
Ron will be a nerdy white kid still. Hermione will be a black girl. Harry will be gay and develop a love/hate relationship triangle with Dumbledore and Voldemort.
@@GamesandNonsenseUnleashed LOL. But the love triangle will be gay Harry, nerdy Ron, and black Hermione with Dumbledore and Voldermort as the groomers.
JK never sold the rights to Warner Bros, its a partnership, this is why she is a billionaire. Rowling has absolute power and can veto anything she does not like. If JK says no, then it doesnt happen.
I think making Anime version of Harry Potter in Ghibli Studio style, that closely follows the books, would be nice. perhaps 100 or more episodes of 30 minute shows. but a live action reboot would be just redundant.
The only reason why the whole reboot is even being done is that the original cast members don't want to have anything to do with the entire franchise anymore or even be associated with it at all. This situation makes it difficult for Warner Bros., who would like to adapt the last book of the series about Harry Potter's children to the big screen or at least to streaming, and now have to start from the beginning to make this possible.
Are you kidding? If we talk abut streaming or just tv, there are a lot of new content. We are in a golden era of shows. This is just a remake based on the popularity of this ip, It's not like HBO is going to stop making original content
This could have a disastrous knock on effect if they're not careful. If they make the TV show too 'woke', then it'll cause damage to the brand (same as Disney Star Wars has) that could see a lot less people wanting to spend money on things like visiting the Wizarding World Of Harry Potter in Orlando, or buy any future games and other merchandise released. They need to err very much on the side of caution with this one.
IF YOU BREACH A CONTRACT IT DOES NOT MATTER WHY YOU BREACHED THE CONTRACT; THE ONLY THING A COURT IS GONNA CARE ABOUT IS THAT YOU BREACHED THE CONTRACT (UNLESS YOU HAVE "EXTRAORDINARY REASONS")
And really, the only 'really accepted' reasons are 'force majeure' and 'frustration of contract'. Everything else gets wobbly as far as the courts are concerned. FWI: (Force Majeure='something nobody could reasonably predict happened, therefore the contract is void', ie 'there was a global pandemic'), (Frustration of Contract is similar. More 'I signed a contract with you to rent your venue for a performance on Thursday. On Monday, the venue burnt down. We have a contract, but you don't have a venue I can use. You can't comply with the contract')
Streaming sites are already not sustainable. Other than having content being censored and/or removed, it also costs money to run the servers. Support hard, offline, content copies.
I also have no reason to want to watch it on Max given my supposed "ad-free" plan still comes with ads! I get that your live sports, which I don't want, run ads; there is absolutely no reason a show from the early 2010s should have ads in them! Wasted that subscription as I went back to the hassle of watching my DVDs that I thankfully already owned.
So it's going to be another Rings of Power, they'll declare 5 seasons and it'll be lucky to reach 3. Rings of Power actors after season 1 were already in production before it had finished airing, at the moment they're saying stuff on social media about waiting to be called back to destroy more of JRR Tolkien's Legacy because his grandson is a moron.
It was a mistake from the beginning anyway, and I don't think anyone would be disappointed if it got canceled. Especially with the recent passing of Maggie Smith, no one is going to want to see a new McGonagall now.
If they are are going to adapt the books one to one, how are they going to adapt Hermiones white face, her getting a tan or resemblance of half a panda if the actor is going to be POC?
It's going to be really easy, barely an inconvenience. The Weasleys are already gingers so race bend them then play up rather than downplay Ron's feats. Like beating 3 snatches when alone and injured, pushing Hermione to recognizing devil snare or passing his first and second year classes using a literally broken wand that didn't choose him.
I've seen every Harry Potter movie in theaters opening night with my older sister back in the day and read all the books, once I heard about this reboot, my rage hasn't settled.
The question is Who's getting turned black, Ron or Hermione? Hermione might seem like the obviouse choice given past events, but Ron and the rest of his family are redheads so the curse may be too strong to save them from the melonin increase.
Meanwhile the vast majority of the world hasn't seen the movies. Or dumped them after one. And a series is the franchise's only chance to grab those who didn't give a shit.
@@sleelofwpg688 That's like arguing Rings of Power is the only way to make people interested in LOTR. If they didn't care for the OG films, they'll care even less about a woke copycat. Not to mention the OG books and HP land at Universal Studios.

@@seriade Yeah but it still doesn't matter what those rights were if JK Rowling didn't explicitly approve them on to co-produce the show... They can still probably get in trouble for their contract of them literally requiring to give them some control over some shows.... But not for HP specifically if JK Rowling didn't sign off on it.
@@Dragonk116 That is not the point of the lawsuit. The point is, WB never offered Com to be part of the show in any capacity. Whether JK could have vetoed any of Com's contributions or Com as a co-producer as a whole is a completely other legal issue (she most likely could have, thank goodness). It's the difference of not being able to win a competition versus not being able to even be in the competition. Com is suing WB because WB singed a contract that allowed Com to be in the competition (the show), but WB excluded Com from the competition.
@@mini-mei It all depends on JK's contract, and it's iron clad... If everything has to go through her first for Harry Potter to get approval and she said no, then the offer cannot be made in the first place. It's situationally dependant.
@@solanumtinkr8280 Again, this is not the same legal issue. JK can forbid Com working on the show AFTER them making the offer for a collaboration, but she cannot forbid WB to offer a collaboration in the first place. WB was contractually obligated to offer, but never did. Your contract with a company (here the "iron clad" contract of JK with WB) cannot interfere with a contract that company has with another company (the contract between WB and Com). This is called "tortious interference".
The casting call for the series was completely DEI, that killed any interest I had in the series. I can see it now. Harry will become Harriet who will later enter into a lesbian relationship with Ginny. The Weasleys will become latin. Hermione will be black. McGonnagal will be a black lesbian. Snape will be non-binary. Dumbledore will be a gay trans man. Tonks will be a man who will be in a gay relationship with Lupin, and Teddy Lupin will be born from a surrogate. Harry, I mean Harriet will have been from a sperm donor as James Potter will now be Janet Potter who was in a lesbian relationship with Lily. Voldemort will still be a white man though as why would they want to change the villain?
And the Dursley's will be the UK equivalent of Trump supporters and the Malfoy's (if not all of House Slytherin) will be straight up pro-white race purists.
The casting call was open casting, so it’s a legality in the uk with the equality laws to specify those things. It will be interesting to see if they go full DEI. They’re keeping it in the UK.
Oh, if they get their way with what they had planned for the Weasleys, it'll be much, MUCH worse......The early casting call that I read about basically said that they wanted to cast each, and every single one of the kids, save for Fred and George, as a different race. So, Fred and George would be one race, Bill would be another, Charlie would be another, Percy would be another, Ron would be another and Ginny would be another. That's.....not only taking woke to a whole other level, it necessitates brings in a whole slew of disturbing backstories into play to even explain such a scenario! 1. The kids, save for one (or, if it's Fred and George, two), assuming they don't go the "make Arthur and Molly a different race from each other, and their kids" route on top of that all, are adopted.....While on the surface, it's wholesome that the two would take all those kids in, it would leave one wondering WHAT THE MINISTRY WAS *THINKING,* ALLOWING WHAT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS "THE POOREST WIZARD COUPLE" TO ADOPT *SEVEN* CHILDREN IF THEY CAN *BARELY* AFFORD TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES! 2. Arthur/Molly have been through countless divorces, got custody of the kids from their previous marriages and somehow wound up together. Which would leave you thinking "So, the 'happiest' wizard family is one that was forged through breaking countless others apart.......When's their's gonna break?" 3. None of the kids are Arthur's, Molly's always been married to him, but is as unfaithful to him as you can get, likes to "lie around" and for some reason........Arthur is either entirely oblivious or doesn't care.......No matter the scenario, thanks HBO, for wanting to take the most wholesome, fictional, family and smash it to pieces.......😒
The tv show being woke would be big. This would be the first major thing for millennial aged people that gets ruined. It was our star wars or lord of the rings. It is huge for my generation. Absolutely massive.
Amen! Plus, because Rowling's name has basically become like Voldemort's these days, I feel like some millennials have chosen to forget just how MASSIVE this franchise was in its heyday.
Difference between them both. “Normies” were the majority and most vocal supporters of SW etc. whilst HP as been majority embraced by the woke mob from the start. jK bowed down to too many character changes and so they already got their claws in. You will get this crowd out in full baying for blood if it’s not 100% woke. Unlike the “super fans” of lotr who all disappeared once the free gifts dried up.
I hope they wreck it. HP represented a big influx of normies into the fantasy world, who of course have demanded changes and turned the whole thing into a cozy wine mom fest now. In other words, a lot of the HP fan base has helped destroy other IPs; it's time they get a taste of what that feels like

We already know that Rowling herself retconned Hermione as black, which caused a big uproar and drama in the late 2010s because Emma Watson's Hermione was white in the movies. People also didn't like how Rowling described Hermione and Emma Watson as "ugly" in her earlier books by telling that the character has big teeth, glasses and messy curly hair.
@@danielmalinen6337No, Rowling has never actually retconned Hermione as black, but she did say that she 'never specified a skin colour' for her in reference to a black actress playing her in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, even though it's implied a couple of times in the books that Hermione is white (at one point she has a black eye and is described as looking like 'half a panda') so I'm not defending Rowling either. As for Hermione being 'ugly', she'd already written the first 4 books which described Hermione as being a bit goofy looking before Emma Watson was even cast in the role so those things aren't really connected either.
I dont care what happens with this series. The moment they said their priorities are diversity, inclusion DEI etc, i lost all interest in it. The movies may be flawed but they are timeless and classic to me. JKR has also been an advocate for this DEI nonsense too. She may have created my childhood and ill always be thankful for that. But the constant retcons she did with her books and changing things to fit "modern times" has ruined any hope i had for anything new set in the main timeline of HP. Hogwarts legacy was great cause it was set far away from the books and movies and did its own thing. So gaming wise im still in. But as for anything in watchable media thats set during the time of the books, thats dead to me. I have my gryffindor hardcover boxset for HP and my 8 film bluray collection and various games. Its all i need as a potterhead.
Did they say their priority is DEI in anything but the casting call? Because I'm pretty sure they're legally required now to include that in the casting call. I'm not saying it won't be full of DEI, or made for a modern audience, but that casting call itself might not mean anything.
@@dereka5017 i guarantee if it was 10 years ago and this was happening they wouldn't have put that little section at the bottom of their blog post for the show. Its only due to "current year" that they do this. And i look at it as an official confirmation that they fully intend to go rampant with raceswapping and gender bending etc. If you dont wanna believe this then thats fine. But i said what i said based on the pattern Hollywood has been going with for the last 7+ years. The evidence is there. Its time to wake the f*ck up.
Quite frankly, while the casting was great, I didn't ever care for the movies. Too much was changed from the books, needlessly in my opinion most of the time. I got through the first three movies and then gave up. No offense to Michael Gambon, he had big shoes to fill, but I did not like his interpretation of Dumbledore in the third movie. All in all, I'm not really into Harry Potter anymore, but even when I was, I didn't like the movies.
I have mixed feelings. The movies got a LOT wrong, and yet some things were right. The music is iconic, and the casting was mostly brilliant. (I miss you, Alan Rickman!). But the days of faithful adaptations, like the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, may be over already and it's too late to expect it now. You can either be faithful to the books, or you can push The Message, but you can't do both. And I fear I already know which one they'll pick. Rings Of Power, anyone? TL;DR, I'm not holding my breath on this one. I have the books and can picture the actors in my head, and that's probably as good as it's going to get.
Adaptation is always hard. I think all I remember about it is that the adapter owes the soure material 'respect'. And if you don't give it that, well, things go sideways at speed. Because adaptation isn't a photocopy, it's an interpretation
Yes, there is so much other things in the HP universe they could do instead. The Marauder’s time at Hogwarts, Voldemort’s backstory, the Founders, The First War, The Black Family, storylines from the other magic schools.
This is why people need to let go when the story ends. Because otherwise this happens to it. Two of the best comic strips ever are Calvin and Hobbes and the Far Side. Why? Because both ended at the right time and were never touched again. They became timeless and immutable. Now look at Dr. Who. Star Trek. Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Abominations one and all. Let Potter go. It's time to move on.
It's what I've been saying as well. This obsession with things whose time has already passed just leads to creative bankruptcy and cultural stagnation. It's fine to like a movie or series from before, but these "old stuff needs to be remade with new technology so I can like it more" claims need to stop. It worked back then, it's not guaranteed to do so right now, and it takes up the place of new things that could have worked if it ever got a chance to prove itself.
This is exactly why I hate the argument of "It flopped because nobody knows who these characters are!" when movies/shows do try to throw in new characters. No, they flopped because they sucked. Every popular franchise started as an unknown series but people have forgotten that because all the big ips managed to stand the test of time for so long.

It sounds like Warner Bros is banking on the fact that their Harry Potter series will be popular enough to cover the fines and penalties accrued by this breach of contract. Looking at how recent TV series have gotten, their media team better muzzle the cast and crew if they want any hope of making enough money.
I wouldn’t put past Universal to change all the graphics from older Harry Potter rides to the new actors. The ONLY reason the Mummy ride didn’t get swapped with the new one was bc of how bad it bombed
That's doubtful as the entire parks are based on the OG films. Unless they also renevate the entire parks to match the reboot too, swapping the actors will create a disconnect with guests and breaking immersion like that can be a death sentence for this kind of thing.
Rebooting is a sign there is no original thinking in any studios. It's time they failed if they can't even think of anything new... I'm sure there's a long queue of creators that just can't get their foot in the door. The studios need to see a series of foreclosures and takeovers, to get these executives back into the idea their providing entertainment and original ideas. I wish we saw non-American sources nipping at US studios heals. They need competition and a lot of it to hone their failing skills...
The people People that are screaming, "we don't need a series." Never readed the Books. They think the Normies Movies goers are the only fanbased. The Books deserved justice.
Thank you! The books should have always been a series and not movies to begin with. The director on Goblet of Fire bragged about having to cut vital stuff out of the movies. And even the first movie with the shortest book got stuff wrong and cut stuff out. Not to mention Ginny's characterization was just thrown out the window. Like the casting for some parts was excellent but the movies really are not good adaptations of the books.
Part of me is definitely curious to see a more faithful adaptation (I've read the books), and part of me might just miss the old cast too much, even with the problems the movies had. And the music is pretty iconic. I have mixed feelings. I also have doubts on whether being faithful to the books will survive DEI, because the two don't mix and one has to make way for the other... We'll see.
It's impossible for the books to get a faithful adaptatation now unfortunately. Not just because they'll likely race/gender swap some characters but also because they were set in the 1990s, and TV producers now feel like they have to keep throwing 'modern day' sensibilities and attitudes in...they do it even with period dramas set in the 1800s these days.
Yes not to mention that the screenwriter for most of the movies Steve Kloves turned Hermione into a Mary Sue and butchered the character of Ron Weasley by turning him into the dumb comic relief character.
But that's why they're mad. There will be no justice done. As a book fan myself, I wish this reboot flounders in production hell and never sees the light of day.
I don't think this Harry Potter series will be a big deal. The movies really happened in a cultural moment when the books burst on the scene and everyone from 10 to 20 read them. Now who is reading the books? Who is watching the movies? Lets face it, that audience has grown up in more ways than one. The people still stuck on Harry Potter are the immature activists who refuse to grow up. I don't think that audience is actually going to show up.
It's shouldn't be Hermione who's turned black, despite the play-that-shall-not-be-named. It's redheads that get race-swapped! The Weasleys will all be black.
I just want to say I find it odd that WB is planning to reboot the HP series when they are working on a new HP theme park. Sure most of the park is based off of Fantastic Beasts, but they still have a ride clearly based off of the HP movies.
So I just saw a post with rumored casting, and I have to say, if this is all true I will be SO excited for this show. These 'potential/rumored' casting decisions are SPOT ON! "Toby Woolf, Joshua Pickering and Bronte Carmichael are rumored to be playing Harry, Ron and Hermione Lesley Manville has already signed on to play Minerva McGonagall alongside Peter Capaldi as Albus Dumbledore, Kristian Nairn as Rubeus Hagrid, Angus Imrie as Professor Quirell, Edward Bluemel as Snape and Lucy David as Aunt Petunia. Jamie Campbell Bower is said to be returning to the franchise, this time playing the Dark Lord Voldemort"
I don't think they should make a Harry Potter TV Series. The movies are fine as they are. They are loved. Isn't the recap here that Sky claims WB did not abide by their contract in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and so far in 2024, but WB's rebuttal is that it doesn't matter because they only care about extending beyond 2025? Have the recent Disney legal team moved over to WB to create these "legal" arguments?
like... man Warner Brothers is really run by potatoes because not only cant they even handle running the global server for an hp gacha game, they also decided to shut it down on halloween! Like how on earth do you mishandle a popular IP?
if you're going to ignore your contract like that then you need to wait at minimum 5 years after the contract expires before even discussing making a series

I'm not looking forward to Hermione becoming black, or Snape becoming a single mother
EDIT: For the idiots who actually think Hermione is black. From the HP Wiki:
- *Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter 21 (Hermione's Secret)* - "Hermione's white face was sticking out from behind a tree."
- A drawing by J.K.
😆😆😆
I know, I'm genuinely worried what they'll do to it. Could be worse than the Cursed Child.
I would welcome a black Hermoine, if the trade off is her being less arrogant and insufferable. @@davidjacobs8558 Those Ghibli renditions really had me wanting that to be real.

It's what I've been saying as well. This obsession with things whose time has already passed just leads to creative bankruptcy and cultural stagnation. @@animezilla4486 We are quoting a channel called The Critical Drinker and his point was the Hollywood doesn´t care about entertaining only that films and shows fill up token boxes.
And don´t pretend you don´t know what we are talking about
@@joimumu Yep, this person also knows 👍
I could imagine that the Universal Themeparks will only honor the characters in the original movies just to piss off and ignore the WB series.
WB doing their own theme parks? Whatever happened to Six Flags?
I don't think warner bros can afford to go to court
It sounds like Warner Bros is banking on the fact that their Harry Potter series will be popular enough to cover the fines and penalties accrued by this breach of contract.
Looking at how recent TV series have gotten, their media team better muzzle the cast and crew if they want any hope of making enough money.
I would like to see more wizarding world and less Harry Potter. Let’s talk about other characters, let’s talk about new wizards.
i think it is the 5 season commitment at 75+% price tag that that WB has a problem with 😆
I wouldn’t put past Universal to change all the graphics from older Harry Potter rides to the new actors.
If they do indeed remake this, it’s going to be absolute dog barf. It’s simple pattern recognition.
I wonder if WB is planning to jump their IP over to Disneyland.
The only Harry Potter remake I would watch if it's adapted into anime format and it's animated by either Madhouse, WIT Studio or A1.
Rebooting the series would be like let's reboot Star Trek Next Generation or DS9....totally wrong. Just goes to show how far gone Hollywood is!
"just deal with it"? Ok, I'll deal with it by not watching it.
So I just saw a post with rumored casting, and I have to say, if this is all true I will be SO excited for this show. These 'potential/rumored' casting decisions are SPOT ON!
"Toby Woolf, Joshua Pickering and Bronte Carmichael are rumored to be playing Harry, Ron and Hermione
Lesley Manville has already signed on to play Minerva McGonagall alongside Peter Capaldi as Albus Dumbledore, Kristian Nairn as Rubeus Hagrid, Angus Imrie as Professor Quirell, Edward Bluemel as Snape and Lucy David as Aunt Petunia.
Jamie Campbell Bower is said to be returning to the franchise, this time playing the Dark Lord Voldemort"
I thought WB had all film and media rights for Harry Potter while Comcast only has theme parks.. what do they have to sue over?
Lol! A 99.9999% chance that Hermione will be black or mixed. 😂
It's 2024 and they probably won't be actually producing until 2025. Time has tolled.
What I want is a Harry Potter anime.
I just wonder what the beach episode would look like...
Warner does have a theme park, and that's Movie World here in Australia. So it will be interesting what will happen with that
I don't think they should make a Harry Potter TV Series. The movies are fine as they are. They are loved. There are eight of them, plus the books are forever solid, the video game is fun, were good baby! WE are GOOD. NO remake. No tv show NEEDED. INSTEAD HOW ABOUT WE MAKE A NEW SHOW, BASED ON THE WORK OF TERRY PRATCHETT! WITH FUN CHARACTERS GALORE, FUN STORIES, FRESH FILM SHOTS TO BE SEEN!! COULD BE EQUALLY AS POPULAR!! PEOPLE WANT BRAND NEW IDEAS LETS GO HOLLYWOOD, BREAK OUT NEW MATERIAL!!
This sue will be more interesting than Concord!
Disney when they bought star wars also brought a unreleased star wars animated tv show that had 37-39 episodes done and another 64 with plots done still havent released it
Isn't the recap here that Sky claims WB did not abide by their contract in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and so far in 2024, but WB's rebuttal is that it doesn't matter because they only care about extending beyond 2025? Have the recent Disney legal team moved over to WB to create these "legal" arguments?
I refuse to believe that Sky does anything other than sue people
like... man Warner Brothers is really run by potatoes because not only cant they even handle running the global server for an hp gacha game, they also decided to shut it down on halloween! Like how on earth do you mishandle a popular IP?
if you're going to ignore your contract like that then you need to wait at minimum 5 years after the contract expires before even discussing making a series
Maybe people didn't get that Fantastic Beasts was a Harry Potter Movie, because it was as much a Harry Potter movie as The Acolyte was a Start Wars show.
It was a prequel
not a good sign that stuff like this is happening already and it hasnnt even begun pre filming yet
