    A Man who shares his knowledge to others who could use a bit of Help and actually takes time to show others his skills and tricks on this Musical Craft, to me is a True DJ. Everytime i need some tips I watch your videos mate, I'm a Jazz/Classical Musician and just started to DJ a while ago, to me it is as Beautifully Complex as Playing a Sonata!! It's about keeping Exact Tempo and working with your hands and Above all Mind. You my friend are a great teacher.Thank you very much.

    This beat matching technique is my favorite. Works sooooo well. I usually put the pitch on the incoming track real high to begin. How much I lower it depends on how much faster it is. If I go too far down, go a bit back up. Then I just fine tune. Love this technique.

    Been looking for this as I’ve gone back to CDJ-850s temporarily so I can learn how to BM without quantization or automatic locking or visual cues. Bloody helpful. Thank you.

    as a total beginner this is my favourite way to practice beatmatching. It allows you to focus on first beatch matching by getting the speed of both tracks the same, then getting them 'in beat', and then you can play with the cross fader, effects etc etc all you like!

    This is the style I picked up a few years ago by watching this video. It's truly the easiest way to learn beatchmatching.

    @ Timo van Vliet
    That is the one thing that drives a lot of peoples crazy. This needs a lot of practice when not using a BPM counter.
    A helpfull trick is to pitch the one u wanna bring in faster so you there is only one way you have to move the pitchfader. Move the fader up ( tune = slower ) and as soon as the beat matches for at least 30 seconds, you are good to go.

    @yeesnaw 12 лет назад

    yes, there is, i haven't even dj'd and i should be getting my midi either tomorrow or the day after, all i can say is that you won't always have the waveform infront of you so it's best to learn to do it without looking at the screen and using only your ears to beatmatch. The last thing you want is having relyed on that aid for so long that when you don't have it infront of you that you simply can't beat match at all, or even if you start using upper end equipment.

  • @Rayven_cat
    @Rayven_cat 13 лет назад

    @angerfistzalig that's the best way to learn. I learned on belt-driven crap turntables. Learning to beat match by ear gives you valuable arrangement experience too. You learn when to wait and when to go with the next track.

    Just wanted to say thanks! that cue trick is pretty sweet! I mix Drum and Bass, so i have a 32 bar section to use the cue trick before i drop a 32 intro on for the double drop! Used to get stressed trying to beatmatch on one 32 bar section! Now i have 48 bars to mess with it! Thanks mate!

    @AdobeExcel i think of it like this, the jog wheel is a temporary change in pitch, IE finding where u want the pitch to be, then the pitch control slider is a permanent pitch change, which u can adjust after uve found your bpm with the jog wheel.

    The software BPM detection on the CDJ 400 from Pioneer is, in my opinion, really really near to perfect ! It does not fluctuate with 90% of all songs and its so precise, that if you set the Bpm of two songs to the spot where it jumps from e.g. 126 to 127, just at the "break even point", then the beat will stay even if you go away for at least a minute ! Try it out, it works for me !!!! Saves my mixes when Im drunk lol : D

  • @driveinshowbunnik
    @driveinshowbunnik 12 лет назад

    @JonesBurway if you have a pioneer player, you have to pause the track and then move the jogwheel untill you have the place where you wan't the next cue point. than just keep your hand on the plattern an press cue and the point is set !

  • @TomTrustworthy
    @TomTrustworthy 14 лет назад

    adobeexcel, yeah your right about the pitch control. So in the middle its set to 0, if you move it up it makes the 'record' spin slower then if you push it down it goes faster. So if one song is faster you can move the pitch control down to make the slower song be just as fast bpm wise. The jogwheel just will move you to different points of the song, but if the pitch is at 0/middle it will always move the same speed.
    120bpm vs 130bpm would require pitch change to stay inbeat

  • @Rayven_cat
    @Rayven_cat 13 лет назад

    @rondamon22m22 this is where learning how to beatmatch without seeing the BPM counter is essential. Put some tape over your BPM counters. Learn how to tell if the song you are cuing up (headphones) is going slower or faster than the track playing outloud. When they get really close it is hard to tell if your new track is moving slower or faster. This is where you need to practice the most. It took me about 3-5 months of solid practice to be able to lock it in real close. Practice is key.

    apart from CDJ's most clubs now use Serato, because with Virtual DJ it beat matches for you, so that takes the purpose of djing away, with serato you still have to beat match but you have your laptop so you can still see the soundwaves with specific lines of where the beats are so you can match visually as well as by ear.
    and trust me this is coming from a guy that started with virtual dj, but when i wanted to start playing at clubs i HAD to learn how to use Serato.

    @rondamon22m22 You have the right mentality, listen to the headphones with one ear, listen to the outside with the other. I'm 'right eared', meaning my right ear is the one I listen to the headphones with. My left ear concentrates on the music that is playing over the speakers. When your ears are trained well enough and you are able to separate the cue track (headphones) with the playing track, you can then determine if your cue track needs plus or minus speed. headphone volume is key too.

  • @Tomasu321
    @Tomasu321 14 лет назад

    Depending on your brand/models etc. But on the Denon DNS-3700 and other Denons i belive, you change the cue point by stoping the music with CUE; moving the plater to the point you want, then hit play. this changes the cue position on my denons atleast, hope it helps :)

    any cdj with hot cues are awsome.. the first cdj i brought had 3 hot cues and was so good to chop and beat match.. then they discontinued the machine and i can no longer afford most cdjs with hotcue functions.. back to the old skool way of mixing for me ! ha

  • @Rayven_cat
    @Rayven_cat 13 лет назад

    @MsTrance1 you need to re-press cue in your instance. matching bpms by the number just means they're going the same speed, it doesn't mean the two tracks are magically aligned. You still have to do that part. Listen on your headphones and adjust the track you're bringing in to line up with the track playing. Watch more ellaskins, he's a good teacher! Let me know if this helped! PEace

  • @blurrrrz

    So true, I wish CD players had a way to disable bpm counting. I only use bpm readers for effects to keep them in sync with the music, I find that fair.

  • @Rayven_cat
    @Rayven_cat 13 лет назад

    @MsTrance1 because if you just move the jogwheel, the pitch will eventually be off again because you did not adjust it. You could just use the pitch, but that requires a little more of speeding up and slowing down and vice versa.

    Unless you're doing a complex style like Drum and Bass. Some D&B tracks will be read at 172 bpms for example and some at 84 bpm. You cannot match the clocks since one track will sound completely crazy and awful if sped completely up or down. But you have to remember the drum and bass matches the snares and hi hats rather than the kick drum. That can change the dynamics a bit. But you still use these basics of beat matching.

    @HjalmarGuitarMaster The light on the top is no relation to how the CD is spinning in the deck. The player actually analyses the track to get the BPM (and I'm guessing), stores the track in memory if it's not too long so that the player is not effected by any jolts/bumps like your home cd player.

    the easiest way i've found to do this is to make a 4 beat loop from the first beat of your track.. that way you wont have to press cue over and over again and when the time comes to throw it in, you'll start from the first beat of the track : ) and when you do throw it in, all you have to do is press loop out and there u go! ; )

    pretty much, I cue up the "one", move the pitch til it matches well, and i play the cue as close to the beat as i can. sometimes I'm a little off but I cant find anyway to fine tune it closer together til it's an almost exact match

    When you spin the deck on the side, its a very smooth spinning = so it spins very slow
    if you spin the deck on the top it normally spins very fast, but it pretends on how fast you set up the spin-speed for the deck.

    if you are learning its better to listen to one song on the speakers and the other song on the headphones, cover the bpm and then proceed to beatmatch. but before that, learn to cue the beat properly, hope this helps you. by the way, it wont be easy, but if you practice, in less than a week you will beatmatch by ear only and it will be more accurate than checking the bpm's.

    @MrN03yeomana CDJ's have no "USB" feature to them, so there is no way to plug the CDJ's to your laptop. Serato is the bridge between CDJ's and your USB port. You would have to connect the CDJ's to the Serato hardware, and then plug the Serato into your laptop.
