- Reviewing the best minimalist Android launchers in 2024, testing my favourite alternative setups to the excellent Niagara. For productivity and performance, here's the top 5 launchers to download for your phone - including Minimalist, AP15, Yasan and KISS.
Let us know your own choice for the best Android setup in 2024 down below, and I'm hoping to round up the ones I like the most soon!
Niagara is still one of my absolute favourite launchers thanks to its minimal but genius layout. You get fast access to the most important apps, with the others buried away in a cascading menu.
However, I've also got a lot of love for AP15, which does away with icons and replaces them with straight text. This helps to limit distractions, with surprisingly deep customisation, making it one of the best productivity-focused launchers in 2024. It's similar to Minimalist, which costs a hefty chunk these days, but absolutely free!
For the top new minimal launchers in 2024, Yasan is a solid choice. This AI-led effort slaps just nine icons on your Android phone's desktop, based on the time of day and your browsing habits. And I'm also still a fan of the slick and simple KISS launcher.

Nova launcher didn't support gestures. Sadly. But this was my favorite ever since it was launched
@@singspirations021the new v8 does support gestures. Works perfectly on my friend's android 13 phone but doesn't work on my Samsung a20 android 11. I think you need at least android 12 for it. (Not sure)
I had been using Nova since 2016 until I discovered Niagara, I'm not sure I'll ever look back.

Tried a heap of launchers, including the one's mentioned here and always come back to Nova. It can be made as minimalist or as heavy as you like - add in KWLP and it is perfect.

Been using Before launcher for over a year now. Glad to have different options, though it's worked really nicely for me and I like the UI/look
I guess it's a bit of the oppostie of a minimalist launcher, but I'm really enjoying the AIO Launcher. It gives similar vibes to a minimalist in the sense that ytou only see the most useful apps, but packed with features.Hope to see you make another review of it!
Might have to give Niagara a try, I've been using Nova for ages.

I'm still rocking Total launcher, I love to fully customize my homescreen and because I still use the old and deleted multipicture live wallpaper app it works great with the launcher
I can make the widget hidden on the swipe gesture, so it can be empty to show the wallpaper
As for normal launchers, Nova Launcher (and its Prime version) as well as Lawnchair (like Nova, but open source and some features missing, I think) are good as well.
Before Launcher is the best I’ve found by far. I love how minimal it is and simply to use. Definitely recommended.

I've been using it for years, takes a wee bit of getting used to but it's so quick and fluid once you're into it. It's options now are amazing.
It reminds me of Nokia s launcher ,forgot the name...but this is so much better I think..
I compromised with myself and got a pixel with minimalist instead of a light phone 2, and honestly its the best. I have a smartphone with security but dumn and not distracting.

We continue to develop Before Launcher...for Pro about $6 (not $60) but even better: the free version is jam-packed with features. Minimalist, privacy-centered, no ads and never, ever a subscription.
Everyone seem to be sleep on Before Launcher.
The lack of meaningful backup support and minimal bulk customization options keep me from swapping to Niagara full time. I used to use it full time but ended up swapping phones which forced me to need to completely redo all of my customizations and folders which killed the launcher for me

I love Niagara even if it's only been a few days since I started using it but it has an issue. It takes a long time to load if you switch profiles. I noticed that issues when I created profiles to separate work from socials and from the rest and there is a loading time each time I switch, which can be a problem. KISS doesn't have this issue at all, it's always fast.
I think it is the first video without the Nova Launcher. I used the ap15 launcher before getting the 13 mini.
My preference rests at the maximalist variety. "Pear Launcher" is good!
i think emui with ios theme is the best for me, idk why but maybe the big icon (i set in 5 x 6) and the color of icon make it easier to remember.

Windows Phone metro tabs were the best and I've used android versions. Win8 launcher was the best but no longer supported so using another one. All your apps arranged how you want on the home screen, and swipe right to an a-z app list. I have about 25 apps on the home screen with the most used closest to my thumb. There isn't a faster navigation system. Easy, infinitely customisable. Long live windows phone!!
Agree! I loved the windows phone, I think I still have an old Lumia (right?) in a drawer somewhere lol. Just curious, I am familiar with Win8 but which one are you using currently?

Is the Time Limit of an app an option on the stable release of Niagra? I can't find it anywhere.
Just worked this out, long press an app then press screen time. The top box says app timer

Windows Phone was one of the best minimal launchers.

I have it on all my phones but the redmi note 12 because it won't let me use gesture navigation with third party launchers

I just use nova so I can get the notification bubbles
Notice how they all use the android buttons? They lack real gesture support as when you install them there is a noticeable lag when using gestures and flicking between home screen and recent apps. This is because android broke gesture support for 3rd party launchers years ago.
Depends on manufacturer. For instance, using launcher on xiaomi is a trash experience indeed. On the other hand, Samsung still lets you use gestures with 3rd party launchers! At least on my 6.0 oneUi version that's still true. Glory to Samsung! 🎉

Nova works absolutely fine on my S23 Ultra, no issues at all with gestures or anything else. They also worked perfectly well on my previous Pixel 6, it's mostly the Chinese phones that don't allow gesture support

Niagara was my favorite until i somewhat stumbled upon Kvaesitso Launcher. Those people are cooking something more unique.
I use a launcher (Lawnchair) to maintain a consistent UI on my phone. Don't like the silly things that Google change in every release, things I never asked for...
mininalist launcher is good but olauncher is the same and free...much better

Stopped using launchers when I switched to the Pixel 6 Pro. Now I'm using the Pixel 8 Pro and seen no reason to use another launcher.
