  • Reviewing the best mid-range Android smartphones of Springtime 2024, packed with the most dependable camera tech, excellent gaming performance and the greatest battery life. For a budget of around £300-£600 UK you can grab the Pixel 7a, Nothing Phone 2a, Samsung's Galaxy A54 5G, Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus and other mid-range marvels. If you can't afford the absolute best, here's my favourite phones for a smaller price.
    If you're after an even cheaper smartphone, check out my reviews and round-ups of the greatest Android smartphones in 2024 under £300 and £200.
    Manufacturers like Google, Nothing, Samsung, Xiaomi and Realme all offer a selection of compelling smartphones at a mid-range asking price. The Pixel 7a is still the best around for camera performance but rivals like the Nothing Phone 2A and Samsung's Galaxy A54 5G aren't far behind.
    Meanwhile the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus is a bit of a mouthful but also a great mid-range smartphone, boasting impressive specs for a budget-friendly cost. Or if your budget is smaller, try the Note 13 Pro 5G which is almost as slick. Don't sleep on the brilliant Xiaomi 13T phone for a bit more cash, while that Poco X6 Pro also offers stunning value for money.
    So many to consider, so which is your personal favourite mid-range mobile?

      People also look at software when buying phones. Iphones, whether you like it or not, do have an edge in terms of software, same as samsung. Hence why people opt to buy iphones/samsung for a better user experience. Good hardware doesn't mean shit if the software experience is bad.

    The only issue with a lot of these phones is third party support for cases, I actually bought the nothing phone two but returned it when I couldn't find a good case. Ended up with pixel 8 and even that doesn't have a great range of cases like apple and Samsung do.

    I think one of the most important things to consider are updates the phone will get. I think I will go with the Nothing Phone 2a because it is very affordable and gets 4 years of updates (3 OS and 4 security). Specs wise you can probably get better phones at that price but if they don't get updates it just doesn't feel worth it to me.

    • @justjuniorjaw
      @justjuniorjaw 3 месяца назад +7

      Yeah value wise Nothing 2a is the best in this price range. Personally I'll squeeze a bit more for something like Xiaomi 13t because the performance upgrade is what I'll want, with the bonus of IP68 as I'll be outdoors a lot.

    I'm screwed when it comes to choosing my next mid-ranger. My current phone has had a slightly smashed screen for nearly 2 of the 3 years I've had it, and I keep on flipflopping between finally getting it fixed or getting a new phone. I really want to get a new phone but the problem is my current phone is the Sammy M51, which is basically the A71 but with a 7000mah battery. I'm terrified of going down to a 5000 battery and it winds me up when I hear people describe 5000 as big. Why are there no nice new phones with decent batteries?

    • @justanotherviewer1282
      @justanotherviewer1282 3 месяца назад

      Newer phones with better soc don't need bigger batteries up to 7000mah, for example I'm using Poco F5 with 5000mah for daily usage still last the whole day, thanks to a new and more efficient 4nm processor from Qualcomm snapdragon, my advice is that get a new device with Qualcomm snapdragon and you don't have to worry about battery life, of course there's always cheaper alternative like Mediatek that is almost as good

    • @daviddoyle5540

      Honestly don't bother with this phone. Coming from a Mi 10T pro it's a major disappointment. I'm selling it and going back to the 10. Xiaomi have gone all in on the camera and the AI and admittedly the camera is stunning but that's where it ends. Upgrading to hyper OS was the last straw for me it's abysmal.I feel depressed using the 13T pro because it's such a waste and could have been amazing but there's absolutely no difference between this and the 10T pro which is why I'm going back. Also one of the first issues I noticed was that the battery isn't nearly as good as my 10t pro, I mean it's not bad but can you imagine upgrading to a flagship phone and getting less battery life, bonkers

    I'm an android developer, I hate that there is a big gap between weakest and strongest android phones. There are some things that need to be thoroghly optimized to work normally on weak android phones of 100-300 bucks cost range. but the most annoying thing is that some producers like xioami, zte, etc like to rewrite existing OS and they introduce lot's of unexpected behaviours and bugs on their devices, if you want to support them you need to write extra code. If you are a normal person don't ever buy ZTE, honor, Huawei, xioami. Samsung are also rewriting the OS but they have less bugs.

    I picked up the full Nothing Phone 2 for £399 recently, intending to use it as a work phone. I honestly prefer it to my Iphone 14 Pro Max. So much so that I'll probably sell my Iphone. That Nothing Phone 2 is the best kept secret in the world - it's not just the fact that it feels like a genuine flagship, for the price point, but the Nothing OS is out of this world. It's kind of a hybrid between stock Android and IOS. It really feels like a £399 Iphone 15, but with Android software?

      @@Trickey2413 What? Not everyone needs absolute performance. I prefer eficiency and battery life. Which the 2a is leaps and bounds ahead of the Phone 1 in that regard. I think the average user can't appreciate or even understand the amount of computing power they have in the palm of their hands.
      Do you do anything worth while with a powerful device and gaming is not one of them so is it just bragging rights and vanity for you like it is for the average person?

    Need a new phone for at most 400€. I'm from Finland so having a good IP rating is important, I don't really game much at all, more RUclips/Netflix, also I like to take photos, landscape photos, so a good camera for those kind of photos would be nice.
    Upgrading from Honor 9 since mine is on it's last legs. Was looking at the Motorola Edge 40 Neo, any reviews on that and any recommendations? Thanks guys

      It depends on luck. If the previous owner charged the phone to 100% every night the battery will have degraded significantly in 2 years of use.

      60hz is honestly pretty weak in 2024. However, the difference between 90 and 120hz isn't that big. 120 is a bit smoother, so it's definitely preferable, but 90hz is far from a dealbreaker in my opinion.

    Motorola Edge 40. Good chip, IP68, wireless charging and fast wired charging, one of the best screens in the mid range, premium build quality (albeit with the mystery branded glass on the front). All yours for 300 quid at the moment. Bargain if you dont mind it being last year's (but still current) model.
    The only issue is unreliable software updates. That said, Motorola have been mostly true to their word with updating the Edge 40 Pro... Had mine for 6 months and I've received 3 security patches and Android 14. No reason to believe they haven't turned a corner with the non-Pro one.
