  • November: Seasonable temperatures, along with a stretch of clear weather, got November off to a spectacular start. This month's video features a three night canoe trip down Long Lake to the Cold River. Foggy mornings and clear days made for a memorable trip, nights were spent at the Calkins Brook Lean-to, the Lost Channel Lean-to and the Island House Lean-to.
Visit www.hikelonglake.com for maps and trip details.
Visit www.adirondackforests.com for more on the wildlife and the spectacular forests of the Adirondack region.
Long Lake and the Raquette River are part of the Northern Forest Canoe Route through the heart of the Adirondacks. www.northernfo...
Paddling up the Cold River provides access to the Pine Point trail to Shattuck Clearing. The Seward and Santanoni Ranges are close at hand.
Among the wildlife featured in this video are:
    Red-breasted Merganser,
    Blue Jay
    River Otter

That was probably some of the best photography of the Adirondacks I have ever seen. Awesome job.

The Cold River Country of the High Peaks Wilderness is one of my favorite places on earth - backpacked through there many times and never disappointed. Too old now for backpacking - and bum knee - but I've given instructions to our son that some of my ashes are to be deposited near Rondeau's when I check out. A true personal Shangri-La. Thanks for the great video. 🥾

I absolutely love this video, I spent my summers as an infant to teenage years in the Adirondacks. My parents had a cabin, the only modern convenience was electric and a wood stove for heat. I loved it then and I love it now. Closet place to heaven on earth...imo.

Just found your site. Bin thar! Stayed at the Calkins Brook lean to 3 times, but couldn't quite get to Pine Point, water was too low, but have a pix of me standing there by the tree with the sign. Hiked part way to Shattuck. We broke ice twice leaving Calkins! Also stayed at the Deep Hole lean to where the rivers converge a couple of times. All this was before the Duck Hole dam broke, but sooo nice too see this again! Your photography is Excellent!! but your hike long lake site is down. Still keep'n my paddle wet... Jerry

Hello, just found your channel….LOVE your work! My parents would take us (5) to ADK with the pop up camper, when we were kids. They are now 86 and I’ll be showing them all your videos, and thanking them for instilling in me my love for the outdoors.
Thank you for creating for us to relive life memories.

Yep, it's pretty great. It can be a bit busy in mid-summer but if you can go early or late in the year it's about as good as it gets. (actually, that's true even in mid summer)

Apologies! The bird identified in the video as a Red-headed Merganser is almost certainly a Common Merganser.

Absolutely beautiful frosty mountain pictures. I was there in August 2021. Paddled to Plumleys Pt and hiked into Cold River for a couple nights and visited the Rondeau Site. Can't wait to go back but I have plans to visit French Louie's stomping grounds this year. Jeff
