Hi, I work in mining and have a prado work vehicle, and own a discovery 3 so have more than just opinion of these cars. Both vehicles are great vehicles but you need to understand them. I own a discovery because it is so capable both on and off road. I would back it every time in a heads on competition. Where the Prado wins hands down is its durability, Toyotas just dont stop no matter how much you abuse them, they are very agricultural compared to the disco so there is less to break.
have owned a Prado 120 for several years. the prado is better finished inside, but too soft on the track. The only jeep that has a built-in frame so a low center of gravity is Pajero 4. this is the best jeep.
I have owned several land rovers and i think TOYOTA makes nice videos against it rivals by giving emphasis to Toyota's positive and other cars negatives. BUT about 1:37 i thing is a pos for the Cruiser that it has almost for wheels on the ground. On the other hand, the 150 is a brand new car compared to a 2003 Discovery. Let's compare it with a Disco 4. To the TOYOTA owners i would say: beware fellows, the disco can overtake even with only one wheel on the ground. Finally what's with comparing two TOYOTAS... are they stupid? Check out the video with title: Land Rover Discovery 3 LR3 vs New Land Cruiser Prado 4.0L V6.
20 years experience in buying bulk (100 to 200 ) four wheel drives per year. Toyota landcruiser lasted longest - 9 months - Nissan patrol 7 to 8 months, bottom of the list Land Rover 2 months or less. So you know what we ended up buying most of then. Who cares about about tire pressure. I am talking about driving these into the ground, to the point of running them on rims... Toyota is a tuff machine. I know!
A bit surprised they seem to be giving the old prado a good review in terms of stability here, because it is one of the most dangerous vehicle to drive through curves. Because of that problem had to sell mine for the nissan patrol y61 2008 with the td42, which has incredible stability in corners or curves at 140km, slow to pickup but when fired it will stay at 140km all day and very reliable and safe suv. In Africa that is an attribute you don't want to compromise. The new toyotas are overhyped
There's no way you can tell from a trail ride how these vehicles compare to one another. A very slight adjustment in angle can make for a very different look for articulation, body position, etc. Also, every time a vehicle rides the trail, the trail changes. You could run the Prado over the same trail four times and get four different results. What would have been more scientific is to have it on an artificial hard course where the different specs can be measured.
@jeep4jeep I like your comment. The clip stops where the new Prado's front wheel is still lifting. The rear wheel is not in the hole yet. With the LR and Pajero, the clips were cut one foot further. look at the stone in front of the left front wheel and see the difference in distance. Yes, and look at the line they take with the LR into the corner and the throw it to an angle. See my response video to this.
I think the best toyota is the hilux, but can behave dangerous in curves and in the wet. It tends to spin out of control sometimes but are incredibly reliable. Buy one and drive it as slowly as possible curves.
after trying and owning all of them I can say that both disco and pajero are better road and off-road cars. even in a new LC all road curves are more noticeable. go for disco if you have no budget limit; otherwise, pajero
Prado is great and maybe one of the last real off road vehicles can you buy today, but Pajero... Don't have an incredible engine or other modern tecnologies but the rear locking diferential and super select system with central locking dif. make a real opcion for off road AND cost a lots less money.
As LR3 owner I prefer to keep my LR offroad, there any other presented car can defeat it. I have tested other cars models 2009 but any of those have as good capabilities as LR3.
That Disco 3 doesn't have air suspension for sure.. mine has zero roll in the corners and it'll stick the back wheel down much further than on this video.. Seems like some foul play.
All dispute which one is best is pretty much about price a person can afford, and utility he or she would utilize for. If you have a lot of money and drive mostly in city and sometimes veture to wilderness then LAndcruiser is good choice but if you have less money and need to drive coutryside then other choices better.
Same goes for handling, the old Prado is by a big marginal the worst handling of those on a real slalom test. Claiming even the old model still to outperform the competitors, is what finally ruins the credibility of the video, as there's countless unbiased reviewers saying the opposite of the same vehicles in comparison. Prado is a great vehicle indeed, and I like it too, but I'm still rather realistic about it's abilities. :)
Our british Jeremy clarkson cant praise Land Rover and Range Rover highly enough, infact on one top gear episode he didnt have a single bad word to say about it. Thats rare... Just because he doesnt drive one, doesnt mean he doesnt like it -.-
@erkhesod yeah, i am pretty sure many is the main reason why there are way more land cruiser than range rover. a base model range rover is nearly $80K. a brand new top-spec land cruiser is $65K. since mongolia is a not so rich country (hey, this is the truth), people will automatically go for the cheaper one.
Indeed, not a fake, it's an Toyota advertisement. All cars were driven properly, but the results and conclusions written there are false and would not hold in a peer review by unbiased reviewers. For example the wheel travel test is done incorrectly, as things like weight distribution do a big difference there, and the actual wheel travel things aren't measued in any manner, neither is load taken in account, etc.
I'm waiting for a completely new Pajero/Montero in last 2010. I are sure the excellent LC150 will have a really competitor. The actual Pajero was year' 2000 project but are still a great car for all the road, I are sure the New Mitsu will be better and the two leader will again be Land Cruiser and Pajero, nothing else with reliability, comfort and offroad capabilityes.
Toyota is an amazing car manufacturer today! these are the new top ones in my opinion. BMW - Nice luxary and performance cars. Mercedes - Nice luxary and performance cars. Toyota - Does it all pretty much. Volvo - Safe family cars.
You'll get more articulation on the Disco as soon as you put it into low range. Not that it matters for an off road comparison on these others, it's still more capable off road.
First let me say, I do own a LR3... This is definately the base coil suspension/no Terrain Response first off... second look at the lines taken at 1:37. They should really us an RTI ramp if they want to compare. Thirdly, only the LR3 and the Pajero are available with a factory locking rear differential... Pretty sure you need to spend $3000 to outfit the Toyota with an ARB with the same performance. I respect toyota for the way they have simplified things to make their vehicles seem more reliable, but my LR3 has been in the shop less than my Father-in-Law's 2012 Tacoma TRD...
The body composure test at 1.40 shows that all the cars a leaned RHS down, while the new prado is RHS up? At the front wheel articulation test, the two prados don't drive fully into the ditch, they only go a few inches down the side( the old one doesn't even go anywhere in the ditch), while the D3 and Pajero drive to the bottom
J120's handling is very reliable and has a great recovery, it also looks better than J150 (horrible face and front bumper) and has a strong power train and a bigger fuel tank. Also Land Rover and Pajero look better than J150. You don't buy these cars for a race and stay all the time at paved track. I would like to see that horrendous car in Tsogwe moegatle like Land Cruiser J120 or Land Rover Discovery, those last are really an all terrain animal!
this LR have air suspension? i have a LR with air suspension, he don´t do this terrrible shake when he goes into these holes, he do movemento just like the current prado
I'm just bored, I realy love old Land Crusers, that was great cars, all of them. New one it is just "toyota corolla". I don't wanna buy something ordinary, what was made for ordinary people. I want The Legend - Land Cruiser!!! You know Australians produce old Land Cruiser 70. They are realy smart people! That what I choose!!! The Legend!!!
this true dude ~ you must trust it ~ come to malaysia , and you will know , Toyota is the strongest car ~ no lie behind this video ~ i dare you to come to malaysia to watch toyota in action if you didn;t believe it ~
This is an Toyota advertisement. Which can also easily been seen from the texts. The Prado is a great car, but in totally different things what the video claims. For example, the Prado doesn't come even close to the Discovery or Pajero in handling on road. But but =) nice advertisement.
@BoreOffEXIDE you'd better study. the accelerators used in some toyotas are american production and for american market. american built toyotas are affected. whereas landcruisers are built in japan as far as I know.
А как прадо замечательно рулиться вообще посмешило :)))) Ниже правильно говорят, сравнивают новый авто с старым и поношенным DIII. Почему бы не сравнить с RRS или DIV на которых стоит система ACE ?
KDSS is a great west Australian invention based on its passive design. BUT!!! Land Rover Discovery II a similar system called Active Corner Enhancement back in 1998,13yrs ago, so typical of toyota to copy others and pass it off as their own,
pajero is best handling car. because pajero is monocoque body, 4wheel Double wishbone suspension, frontmidsip, Weight balance is 51:49. prado is no good weight balance, rear suspension is rigid axle.
All the little yellow lines they superimpose over the pictures showing different wheel lift, different vehicle angles etc are meaningless bullshit and, in this case, selectively used to try to show the Toyota as the better vehicle. In reality though, the Discovery 3 is a superior vehicle to the Toyota in every respect - the Discovery 4 even more so.
this has to be biased, hell in the begining they let the prado drop b4 stoppin it, where as the land rover's stand still is when its at its highest point, not on the same height as the prado
well not even the best Live axles cud beat independent suspensions . so this doesnt make sense at all. well except for rock crawling, independent suspensions on offroad vehicles are great advantage, thats why everbody loves the landrover models (except for Defender) and obviously the hummer H1, Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Armada, yeapp
bollocks this, the 1998 discovery 2 cornered flatter than all of these with A.C.E. But it was soon realised that slight body roll was better than none, as too much lateral G-force (instead of downward) was exherted on the tyres and caused them to 'slide'. thats why the later landrovers have a slight body roll.... Just shows that Toyota are about 10 years behind Land Rover
Owning a land rover doesn't make u a great guy,and owning a toyota land cruiser doesn't make us cheap.SO BEFORE SPIT OUT A GREAT DIALOGUE THINK TWICE ABOUT THE FACTS.

what ever people say i love the mitsubishi

Probably a Land Rover XS with coils and not the air suspension - No doubt uploaded by Toyata
I think the best toyota is the hilux, but can behave dangerous in curves and in the wet. It tends to spin out of control sometimes but are incredibly reliable. Buy one and drive it as slowly as possible curves.

That seems far fetched and not really believable.
ruclips.net/video/rCXcKkUqAAU/видео.html
Had a Pajero for 3 years. Loved it right up to the point when I drove a Disco 4 (LR4). Just no comparison on or off road.
Uploaded by Toyota I bet...
Prado is great and maybe one of the last real off road vehicles can you buy today, but Pajero... Don't have an incredible engine or other modern tecnologies but the rear locking diferential and super select system with central locking dif. make a real opcion for off road AND cost a lots less money.

Great Video. Very insightful
I'm still buying Pajero
That Disco 3 doesn't have air suspension for sure.. mine has zero roll in the corners and it'll stick the back wheel down much further than on this video.. Seems like some foul play.
excelente vídeo ... demuestra en forma científica la superioridad de la nueva Land Cruiser Prado ...
This is a total bulls*** the Land Rover version it's not equipped with air suspension or Terrain Response.
All dispute which one is best is pretty much about price a person can afford, and utility he or she would utilize for. Prado is the best for on road and off road. Prado J150 2010/2023 is more beautiful than the new prado

BMW - Nice luxary and performance cars.

that determines the balance of the vehicle is the alignment and position of the tires. no matter what mitsubishi is the best of the whole
Both LR3 nd Prado is gd....bt when it comes to sustainability I would choose TRJ or KDJ 150 or LR4
excelente camioneta la prado 150 que belleza.!!!y muy seguras a si es pa que que si...!!!
You'll get more articulation on the Disco as soon as you put it into low range. Not that it matters for an off road comparison on these others, it's still more capable off road.
i have driven all this jeeps bt i know land rover is the best for the second place pajero

Prado such a beautiful SUV why low sales in USA, Canada and UK?
Lots of technical nafnaf .... but it remains the Landrover, that I personally like best :o)
I notice they didn't dare compare this with an LR4? Anyway once off road the LR3 and the LR4 would leave the rest in their dust.
this was upload on 2009 maybe the new LR4 was not yet on sale. one remark , the LR is not any more what it was before. now they have many problems.
and prices?

no not fake this video is real, certainly toyota better than all others about off road...
The best off-road car for me!
really nice video toyota rocking........
i love toyota too
quality revolution
just one question. why is rr not in this video? i know because even toyota dont want to compare it to rr because they are scared
@DavrosK9who
The problem with the tyres is just all the weight being put on them from body role so they compress making them look flat. Prado is king.
This commercial does not show, that new Prado is the best of 4 vehicles) Discovery 3 is the greatest of these 4 cars.!
i think that Michael Schumacher is driving the new prado
Toyota Prado !! Way to goo !!! I 100% guarantee this vehicle !!! :) great !! (Y) moving forward !!
and why didnt they put it up against a new discovery 4 and see that they have fixed the body roll and so forth
Don, I fully agree. I am a lomg time LC driver, but this test is bollocks.
WHITCH IS BETTER?
Prado 150
lend Rover, best off road car in the world, i love it
Sulla variabile S notavo una guida perfetta nello sterzare da parte del pilota col new Toyota, a differenza degli strappi e veloci giri del volante con gli altri offroad, con un aumento della accelerazione laterale, aumentando l'angolo di inclinazione. Wow trust him to be factual and non biased when he has toyota in his name...
prado does have a rigid body but pajero is a dakar champ cant go wrong there m8 lol. plus the disco is same thing more kit
Who ever manufactured the pajero was dumb enough to put another independent front suspension at the back. They could have used a solid axle
This is quite unfair. The "new" Toyota Prado can't be juxtaposed with the Land Rover Discovery 3. There's the new Discovery 4.
this true dude ~ you must trust it ~ come to malaysia , and you will know , Toyota is the strongest car ~ no lie behind this video ~ i dare you to come to malaysia to watch toyota in action if you didn;t believe it ~

the legacy lives on
I'm not a discovery fan, but if you compare a 2011 new prado model, you should at least compare it with the new discovery oO !
KDSS is a great west Australian invention based on its passive design. BUT!!! Land Rover Discovery II a similar system called Active Corner Enhancement back in 1998,13yrs ago, so typical of toyota to copy others and pass it off as their own,
Все пилюсы скоро станут нормой. А конкуренты переплюнут и Прадо 150
cars are not compared in the same positions ...they seem like that but they were not in the same position
the landy would have owned them, and they made this test so the toyota would win everytime
pajero is best handling car. because pajero is monocoque body, 4wheel Double wishbone suspension, frontmidsip, Weight balance is 51:49.
prado is no good weight balance, rear suspension is rigid axle.
for 2010 the LC will have 204 cv with the 3.0 d4d.
Pajero is the best... Dakar rally proves it
like i always say....Toyota....like a boss..
Hey everyone do you want to buy a cheap LandRover buy a Toyota!!
Disco 3 have 120 awards how many have the prado ?
anyone who thinks this "test" was fair. has absolutely no concept of how cars work, or vehicle dynamics.
Sponsored by Toyota
lend rover? lol i see why you love this suv so much
land cruiser always no 1
this has to be biased, hell in the begining they let the prado drop b4 stoppin it, where as the land rover's stand still is when its at its highest point, not on the same height as the prado
Prueba partidista mal realizada, el discovery 3 puede regular altura y dureza suspensión y
no se hace en la prueba.
not seeing tires pressure issues it hik these are just excuses cause toyotas is on top of there game. Don't hate appreciate
Toyota New Prado the best of all
well not even the best Live axles cud beat independent suspensions . so this doesnt make sense at all. well except for rock crawling, independent suspensions on offroad vehicles are great advantage, thats why everbody loves the landrover models (except for Defender) and obviously the hummer H1, Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Armada, yeapp
@ShallNeverSurrender7 so true man.
Why they are tested old LR3 ?... There is a new LR4 - when they tested the new Toyota should be tested and a new Land Rover, not the old?
Prado is not in the same class as pajero in off-road category! Pajero rules in off-road.
Hang on... Why are they comparing the "new" prado to the dicovery 3?... O right because it's not even close to the standards of the discovery 4....
the best is Mitsubishi pajero !!!!
video payed by toyota
@mahidmalik7 ur right man pajero is the best
Зачем нам тут мозг сношать, ну хочешь ты грязь месить - бери трактор. А эти автомобили обычно только по асфальту и ездят. И на нём независимая подвеска и комфортнее и безопаснее. You can say what you want Land Rover drivers why would you buy a car which would break down after a year or two.
compare with the landy disco 4 then
Owning a land rover doesn't make u a great guy,and owning a toyota land cruiser doesn't make us cheap.SO BEFORE SPIT OUT A GREAT DIALOGUE THINK TWICE ABOUT THE FACTS.
