      Only Metric measured, all European models have these Wonderful bearings, that were invented by NASA by the way. American two strokes do not use these because of strict environmental concerns , as to the Fact that they make the motors TOO DAMN FAST!!! Thanks for watching and respect.

    I have removed the reed restrictor plates from my bike before. It does work but the problem that eventually shows from doing that is the reeds start to deform slightly and stop making a good seal when returning back to the block. This makes your bike consume a lot more fuel then it normally would. The other risk is the reed has a bigger chance of breaking and going into the cyclinder which will make u have to replace the top end because the piston and rings will get damaged. Could possibly seize the engine as well. I had the fuel consumption problem and got lucky by replacing the reeds and putting the reed restrictor plates back on before they broke. All that being said, you do get maximum power from removing the restrictor plates. It’s a risk.

    This is a pretty good idea, the only problem i could see is if a piece of your reed broke off and got sucked under your crankcase (2 stroke) that would be some really BAD news. So if your gonna do this id replace the valve one every year or two.

  • @empirecycleman355

    I usually find that the chrome muffler bearings do not have the lifespan of the higher quality nikasil bearings. Also when replacing said bearings it is advisable to use a proper lubricant for the carrot.

    • @DIOSpeedDemon
      @DIOSpeedDemon  7 лет назад +1

      Nikasil Racing Cylinder Bearings cannot be beat and were originally developed to Power the American Space shuttle in its quest for breaking earths gravitational orbit. I would love to buy some, but they are made only in Iceland and extremely expensive to export. Also the customs permits are outrageous at this time. I am sure you have the same problem. Thanks RH SDD

    • @AtimatikArmy
      @AtimatikArmy 7 лет назад +2

      Make sure you use yellow lithium grease for best nikasil muffler bearing performance. By all means, NEVER use synthetic muffler bearing lubes, the muffler will over rev and you will have a run away engine and eventual total melt down. If you can't find yellow lithium grease, it is ok to substitute with Vaseline instead as it is the only other officially acceptable muffler bearing lubricant that is readily available in the states.

    I know this is from 2013, however. I'd like to give everyone some tips, if they haven't been discovered yet.
    You want the reeds to be narrower than the width of the reed block. Not only will this ensure that the reed doesn't rub against the intake, it will decrease the weight of the reed, giving you snappier throttle response. Trim off as mush excess reed material as possible, leaving 1/32 of overlap.
    Removing the reed stop will allow the reed to open farther, if there is enough air flow, at the expense of shortening the life of the reed due to fatigue.

    • @wesman7837
      @wesman7837 3 года назад

      Removing the stop is probably a good way to have broken reed chunks scaring up the piston, and cylinder.

    • @DIOSpeedDemon
      @DIOSpeedDemon  8 лет назад +5

      +Mike Montgomery No, first you must align the dual chrome muffler bearing adjustments, till they track due east. All Reed screwed must be weighed, filed to the lowest weight and put in with the slots pointed toward the front of the engine and not anywhere else. This work must always be done on the first Tuesday of the month to provide the best Karma for optimal speed and power performance. The blue oval performance mat used in the video must be precisely 9-1/2 inches in diameter, (the exact length of my enourmous Johnson). Lastly you must pay more attention to the contents of the video instead of asking Stupid Questions....Then yes, you put it...back...together...Forrest Gump.

    No insult or complement intended (just a statement), about the knowledge and the lack there of on reed valve design. We all need time to learn but good information from good sources is a must, might I recommend an S.E.A. publication, (DR. Gordon P. Blair’s book, The design and Simulation of Two Stroke Engines) learn the basics like reed block design flow area, realize how reed natural frequency effects design, understand how different types of fiber material and epoxy’s and reed thicknesses effect reed natural frequency’s and the performance of a given reed material, understand the relationships between design flow area and flow resistance, understand the effects of crankcase primary compression ratios and how they effect a given reed design ECT, and no you don’t need to be an engineer to understand this stuff you do how ever need to have good sound information, S.A.E. publications are usually a very good and trustworthy source.

    first of all, nice educational video man,
    i can see you have a real gift for these sorts of things,
    might i add that maybe it isnt such a good idea to leave the springs of,
    especially when considering that some bikes have metal reeds...
    and like you said, they can become quiet fatiqued and without those springs, they will sooner break and make your bike go clank clank in wich a "chaos like" revising operation is necessary... ofcourse what i am saying increases its moral value exponentiolly, the more tuned or the more rounds per minute the engine can deliver...
    also messing around with the pre ignition ( wich some Capacitor discharge ignition (cdi's) units are tuned for) may cause these puppies togo bambam.. so yeah,
    anyway thanks for the video,
    i liked watching it.
    regards,
    a Ðا operative

      Valentino- {very cool name by the way}, You make a very good point. My racing books say that the stops can sometimes limit the valve opening to full potential. On the other hand- With the valves flapping all over, they can tend to create a weak spot at the base of the reed and crack and snap off. I have tried both ways just to experiment and I find that the stops are better for throttle consistency at high speeds. I meant the springs instead of the stops. With the Boyeson custom reed material in my new reeds, it is like three times as thick as a normal off the shelf reed. Thank you for the kind words, Randy H

    Thank you, Teacher .
    Now I have some idea what reed valves are. I am considering having a really fast two stroke scooter when I can fit it into the budget. I currently have a four stroke 125 cc GROM mini-moto and I am getting tired of wasting money on state mandated insurance and tags....
    At last talley , 7 states, "I think" , do not require tag or plate on 49cc and South Carolina does not even require driver license for small Engine scooters... South Carolina does however enforce a minimum age of 13 for scooter operation on street. Otherwise,same rules as bicycle...
    South Carolina is unique in this.
    I am not aware of any other states that require no driver license to operate a scooter or moped on the streets.

    I have a new set of reed petals I am installing one side is waxy texture and other is smooth texture.... what side is facing inside engine to case and vice versa what side has air/fuel entering against it.... I put the waxy side touching the cage so the air fuel mixture will touch the waxy side of the pedal... let me know if I need to change orientation.... these are R&D dominator m16 reed cages, also noticed this reed kit doesn't come with reed stops and are prone to premature chipping and wear.... would it hurt to add my own custom stops from the stock cages?

    • @DIOSpeedDemon
      @DIOSpeedDemon  3 года назад +2

      Great question, I would use the smooth side against the Rib cage where the reed material touches. Reeds stops May come with new Reed valve cages, but never with just reeds. you can build your own, but metal fatigue can cause them to become brittle and snap and get sucked into the enginee. That is your call to try this.

      what about boyesen kevlar-plastic vs carbon fiber? Ive heard they chip a lot but I was getting a lot of trampolining on my hobbit with a 21mm dellorto and i think .3 boyesen reeds. i want to try carbon now, at .4 but ive seen them chip a lot. what do you recommend? should I put the stock reed tensioner back and keep using the boyesen reeds?

    Hey brother I got a quick question if you don’t mind, I got a old 60hp Johnson and one of the sets of reed valves on the top carb is slightly open can I take the reed out and try to bend it back slightly? So that it sits closed it’s only open like a 1/8th inch or less, I can see like threw it

    • @DIOSpeedDemon
      @DIOSpeedDemon  2 года назад

      No, it wont work. The reeds have to seal tight with no leaks. Research and get a good set of reeds or boyeson reeds and replace them. It is a simple fix and happens all the time. If you have any holes in the reeds or can see thru them, they are shot and need replaced. You will immediately notice the throttle response and greater high end. Reed replacement is easier than replacing a air filter or spark plug. Try it one time and you can do it next time with your eyes closed. Good luck, RH

      @@tholland5509 They are not cheap and usually come with two new reeds. THey last a long time. If the old reeds are worn or damaged or show light thru them, they need to be replaced. look up reed replacement videos on your machine, then order new ones. You dont want them to fail in the middle of the river or ocean do you..???
