In this week’s episode, I review the step by step Lightroom editing process I use on all my landscape photos. I'm currently in beautiful Bali Indonesia where I edit one of my favorite photos I've created on my trip thus far. With all the tools and sliders inside of Lightroom I personally find it super beneficial to see how other photographers edit their photos. I always pick up at least one helpful tip from watching others go through their photo editing workflow and my hope is that you'll be able to do the same watching my workflow. In this video, I walk through an entire start to finish Lightroom edit of an incredible image from my recent trip. I hope you enjoy this week's video and as always thanks so much for watching! - Mark D.

🌟QUICK QUESTION: Which program do you do most of your photo editing in?
Darktable.
@@froreyfire 👍
Thus far, Photoshop... but wanting to look more at Lightroom. Also perhaps Capture One? I've been seeing that many Fujifilm photogs recommend it as "far better than LR and Ps".....your opinion?
DXO Photolab 6 and Photoshop...but mostly PhotoLab. I was a Lightroom user beginning with Lightroom 2, but I really like the results I get with DXO now.
Lightroom
For White balance adjustments, try this: Boost the saturation to 100 and then make your temperature and hue adjustments, finally restoring the saturation level to nominal.
I do a lot with "push pull" techniques like this. Go way over the top then drop opacity to like 20% often a great way to adjust.
I will sometimes pick something in my image that I want to be grey, boost the saturation to 100, toggle between b/w and color and adjust until it looks the same in both
this technique works great for astro editing
❤
That is actually a really good ide
Nothing to beat proper exposure in camera before manipulation in post!
Hey Mark. I'm always amazed at how much I learn from you in 15 minutes. Thanks so much. And keep cool out there.
Lightroom is my Go-To....then it's Photoshop. Cheers, Mark!
Beautiful picture and thanks for the tips. I often take my landscape shots a bit dark too, to get a better sky then fix it in post processing. That's when having a larger sensor really pays for itself with the extra dynamic range.
Another awesome adventure with Mark Denney. You live a charmed life my friend. Loved this. Can't wait to see more of your images from this trip! Safe travels. With love from Atlanta.
Thank you. This was such a helpful video especially the way you explain using radial filters to direct the light. Beautiful work Mark.
I do 95% of my post-processing in Lightroom. The new masking features are very helpful. BTW ... GREAT IMAGE !!!
Such a beautiful photo and edit! And shooting with Daniel, it doesn’t get much better than that! I love Bali ☀️
Absolutely inspiring.Thank you.
Thanks Mark! There are a lot of things you did In Lightroom that I never thought about. A lot of buttons for this girl. Will definitely have to rewatch this.
This is such a great resource video Mark, thank you!! I’ve been hunting though video after video for workflow steps. This is absolutely perfect!! Can’t say thank you enough.
These are some awesome tips, Mark! I appreciate the usage of radial filters to do local edits to emphasize light and color. I've never done this before, and will definitely experiment and incorporate this technique into my edits. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
Glad to hear it was helpful!
Thanks for the edit tutorial Mark, I feel like I always learn something when I watch your videos 🙂. This is such a beautiful image!!!
I enjoyed all the transformation you did to the picture, beautiful!!!
Great video and beautiful image in the end! Thanks for all the tips! Always learning great stuff from you 🙏
What an amazing photo. Well done. A true peace of art. Love it. Thanks for showing us your editing skill. I learn so much from you.
Thanks so much!
Excellent video! Thanks for this.
Thank you so much for sharing these photos and edits. It has really helped me navigate LR!
I really like the way you speak English and your pronounciation which allows a French speaker to understand you better than others.
I picked up your “sun radius” technique a few months ago and I love using it! One step I’ve added to the process is to subtract some of the shadows from that layer with a luminosity filter. I feel like it gives it a more natural look. Thinking if i were to be standing there looking at it the sun would naturally blind me
By “subtract the shadows” are you saying you’re just darkening the shadows?
@@johnd9357 after adding the radial filter I click on the Subtract button for that filter, right below it, and select a luminosity filter. Then click on the shadows I don’t want affected by the dehazing process. Hope that makes sense
Thank you for sharing this. Love your content..
A little negative denoise on the sun radius will add a glow.
Great Tips Mark. Really enjoyed the video
just tried it out, im happy with the results, thank you😁
This is great Mark … a beautiful composition and cool edit , many thanks 🙏
Great video Mark, and beautiful image. Each time I watch one of your videos I pick up an additional tip to help me with my own editing. Thanks for the great instruction!
Awesome video and an amazing shot, Mark. I LOVE Indonesia.
Beautiful image Mark. I really like the way you explain and show your editing. Very easy to follow along and learn. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Susan!
My favourite photo of yours !
Really appreciate seeing how you've edited this photo, Mark. Some excellent tips for me to try. Now - get into some air conditioned space!
Really enjoy your videos there is so much in lightroom I don't know or have forgotten you are a great help with these videos
Excellent tips Mark! I also like the soft, dreamy look. I keep forgetting that I can extend the gradients outside of the image area.
Thank you Mark....
Damn your photographs are really something. Makes me want to learn to do landscape photography.
Excellent tutorial! You've got a great workflow.
Amazing image, a true piece of art, very informative video as usual, thank you
As usual a top tutorial made all the better with the many examples you illustrate.
Your channel is my #1 for learning LRC. Great photo, but honestly I liked the bottle, an interesting real-life detail, showing that all that beauty is in danger.
what a beautiful shot wow.
Beautiful capture and then the edit to bring the vision home!
You make it look so easy, and I always learn new tricks from your great videos.
Beautiful image. Can understand why you are so pleased with it. Thanks for tips and make sure you hydrate.
Thanks Paul!
That’s a great picture! Amazing!🤗🤗🤗
Beautiful editing work love the end result!
best photo i have seen in years. thank you for sharing..
Hi - so detailed and easy to understand the workflow. Keep it up.
Thank you!
Really great photo. Love it 😊
Great job Mark! I always learn something watching your videos.
Awesome to hear - thank you!
I use light room. This was really great for me. Looking forward to my next editing session.
Fantastic....AGAIN! Sharing!
Gorgeous image
Hi Mark, more great tips, enjoy the remainder of your trip.
Thanks Steve!
A really good demonstration video. By keeping to the topic but more, in keeping it relatively simple for enthusiastic amateurs like myself, it then is both quite easy easy to follow and to understand. Too technical and its easy then to lose practicality. Mark is a great presenter with an easy to follow and listen to style.
Thanks for the video, I always learn something new about Lightroom when I watch them lol.
Should intersect the sun radius with a luminance range mask to remove the glow from the shadows within the leaves in those bushes. The sun wouldnt be hitting them like that
Thank you , this was a great real world tutorial. As someone who almost exclusively uses Lightroom I really appreciated this one
Great edit and a very beautiful photo
Great information!
Wow, this is really a beautiful picture!
Really useful video with great combination of techniques. 15 mins is so much better than some of the 'shorts' we see. More importantly, a really great image!!
Thanks!
I love what you did with the photo. I would love to hear and understand more about your workflow. For example, you reduced the Highlights slider and increased the Shadows slider, but then increased the Highlights and reduced the Shadows in Curves. I know Texture and Clarity are not they same - may be siblings or cousins - so I’m curious about reducing Clarity and increasing Texture. It would be massively helpful if you are able to explain why you do some of these things. Many thanks.
I'm curious about this as well, I know the highlights/shadows sliders in the "Basic" section don't do exactly the same things as making the same adjustments in Curves but an explanation on the specifics would be nice
Nice! Thank you.
Fantastic shot 😊
Just have to add, that is an AMAZING photo! One of my favorites I’ve seen of yours. Like, holy frick that’s good.
Awesome shot! Looks like a composite!
Wonderful. So glad you did 2 things near the end. 1). Removed the water bottle, which was bothering the heck out of me, once you pointed it out. :). 2) Changed the lighting near the end in the upper right quadrant. What you had originally edited there didn't really work for me, but those changes right at the end nailed it for me. :). Thanks!
Thanks for the tips! This is a great picture.
Thanks so much!
That one caught my eye scrolling. Nice!
Well you pretty much did exactly what I said I think you did when you posted the image before you posted the video. 😊
Once again an excellent video. Beautiful photograph.
Glad you enjoyed it
Pretty good !
The trip looked like such a blast on your Instagram. Can't wait to see the pics!
It was amazing! Thanks so much
Beautiful
What a great photo. I'm using Capture One but once again you gave me an idea to apply. It seems to me that you can do a lot more with Lightroom as opposed to Capture one.
this is a very great video, letting us know the reasons for making ay adjustment
Amazing photo!
Dear Mark, great video: Very inspiring to edit on the go, especially abroad, with a full software and a laptop. I rely on a M2 MBAir and mainly Capture One (& DxO photolab for denoizing high iso & Affinity for merging panoramas). Editing every evening/night to redo my shootings if needed, learning from my mistakes. 🙏🏼
Thanks so much!
Stunning shot mark!
Thanks Kelly!
Wonderful photo. That tree house is really interesting. I'd probably dodge the sidelight on that tree and maybe the side of the tree house a bit to bring them out a little. You may have already done that with some of the finer Photoshop adjustments you mentioned.
greetings from indonesia, i always watch your chanel. great to learn from you.
Beautiful image, Mark.
Thanks Sarah!
Beautiful capture!
Many thanks Nate!
Wow, that photo tells a story for sure
Thanks Justin!
Such a great image!
Thanks so much Danny! Patagonia coming up right?
Awesome video and great editing ❤❤
Thanks so much!
Thanks for a great video. The shift doubleclick trick is really useful.
Glad to do it Ian!
Great photo and video was very helpful
Thanks Maria!
Another superb video, thank you. Love your style and easy to follow manner. I have a request... Can we have a video devoted to the Tone Curve which includes the colour channels please.
I really enjoyed your video and your way of teaching!
I would love to take a workshop with you!
Daniel Kordan is one of my favorite landscape photographers! Great stuff man!🙌
Magnificent Photo. I am impresset. From one of your fans from Denmark🙂
Thanks for this video, Mark! I’m a fan of your signature subtle adjustments with “a touch”😊.
Quick question, you start the photograph pretty dark, wondering what was your light meter setting on your camera for this ?
Hi Mark, as others have commented, do you ever bracket your images? for HDR images I tend to bracket the shot to ensure I have enough data to bring up the shadows and reduce the highlights. Occasionally I have merged HDR images as layers in Photoshop, this can help with ensuring you always have the correct exposure for highlights and shadows.
Excellent video,,thank you for shearing your workflow. I use mostly Capture one and sometime Lightroom. When I use Capture one I go to Photoshop for heavy masking and use TK8 or Camera Raw for the masking since Capture one is light years behind Adobe compare to masking.
You're very welcome!
I'm glad you made a visit to my country. Indonesia has been underrated as a destination, Westerners tend to visit Thailand or other South East Asian countries, and bypass Indonesia, despite the country being the largest one in SEA. We are comprised of about 18,000 islands with about 1,340 ethnicities. Thank you once again for visiting Indonesia and I would like to urge people reading this comment to visit Indonesia. It's the largest archipelago in the world and the Dutch used to call us the Spice Islands back in the colonial days for a great reason.
I’ll come visit for a free room 😂😊
What an image. Your final result came out fantastic. Probably my favorite photo that you’ve taken. Excellent job.
