Hey guys, sorry for pinning this comment on all videos but I want to give you an update on the channel. I've been slowly adding a show archive to the videos including a full transcript added as sub titles and a full track listing (with links to RUclips videos for each track). Pilkipedia archive link has been added as well and I've been having fun illustrating some of KP's best bits, I'm adding these to a shop incase anyone is interested: www.man-moth.com/ It's taking me a while to update the archives, especially as I don't work Mondays so please bear with me as I chip away at it. Lots of love, Man Moth.
These episodes without Karl has me in tears. I LOVE Karl on these shows, he really makes them legendary. But I have to say, Ricky and Steve's friendship really glows in these episodes. They riff off each other so well and they get on a lot better in these episodes than they do in the Karl episodes. I do miss Karl, but these episodes with Claire are absolutely hilarious. Ricky and Steve are always on top form in these episodes. There's no space for breath when you're doubled up laughing at the amount of riffing and gags they do xD!!
Plus her laugh is awesome, it intensifies some of the moments. After a few 'rounds' when i didn't really enjoy the Claire episodes (didn't skip them either though), i loved them more and more and now i even got to the point when, in a random series 3 episode, i felt like Claire's laugh could have even 'enriched' a certain moment :)
Yeah! They both take the piss out of her and never give her a chance to speak with their riffing xD They take the advantage to show just how hilarious they are xD It's so funny!
I am really glad to see the comments in these videos. I've listened to the radio and podcasts many times over the years, and it's amazing to see there's a community of freaks doing the same hahaha. Thanks Man Moth!
People didn't seem to realise that Karl wasn't the only factor to this shows succes. All 3 of them were crucial to the succes. If it was Karl and 2 others, he would have probably kept silent for his full career at XFM. Ricky and Steve gave him a platform and probed him to share his views. Wich resulted in comedy gold. Besides that Ricky and Stephen by themselves are 2 incredibily talented comedians and you can hear they are very comfortable with eachother.

I usually listen to XFM episodes when I go to sleep, but for some reason whenever a Claire episode comes up, I always save it for when I'm awake. There's something different about these episodes that makes them special compared to "DONT TALK SHIT. PLAY A RECORD".
As much as I love Karl, this is one of my favourite episode or at least one of the most memorable for me. Maybe it's just because it's a bit different but "why do you hate me?" made me laugh so hard the first time I heard it. Still made me laugh all these years later.
She learned to do that three 'Claire' episodes ago. She twice interrupted Ricky and he got a tad annoyed. He did his best to put a humorous slant on it, but it was a genuine annoyance to him for sure.
@@TheRowlandstone73 The joke is that Claire is just the mutt. She's irrelevant to the show and is lucky to be involved. Ricky rarely genuinely gets upset on these shows, same for Ricky and Karl. They even joke about Claire whilst she's not there that she is an alcoholic drugie they just feel bad for.
@@kitpalmer1583 you can say something in a funny way with an underlying meaning to it, which is what Ricky was doing, even though he always interrupts Claire
I love the Sturgess episodes. Merchant and Gervais are given a chance to shine without Karl, and they prove themselves to be very capable of doing so. They had already shined without Karl in the 9 episodes before he was involved, in fact those are some of my favourites. In both those early episodes and in the Sturgess episodes, they have hilarious discussions and Ricky's outrageous mannerisms are just as present, or perhaps even more so. Gervais and Merchant themselves seem to think that a lack of Karl does not mean a drop in the quality of their show. Gervais frequently says in episodes previous to this one that people tune in only for Karl, but at the end of this episode Merchant and Gervais proclaim that the show is better without Karl. I'm not sure I agree that the show is necessarily better without Karl, but it certainly is at least as good.
Karl is overrated. He's a bit of a one-trick-pony, whereas Ricky and Steve, when together, come up with all manner of comedic anecdotes and jokes. Karl has his funny moments but mainly down to his stupidity and their reactions to it. I find myself laughing more at Ricky's reactions to his inane nonsense, rather than the scenario itself.
I believe in synchronicity , but i'm also very skeptical. It's possible that they had a conversation just before going on air , where one of them said 'awww, bless him' (as part of a completely different conversation), which would have subconsciously primed them both to say it at the same time on air, in a way. They were also close friends, and close friends get familiar with each other's speech patterns, habits and idosyncrasies.
