I've really enjoyed the last 3 episodes. I'm 60 and wishing I'd followed my dream back in the 90s to cross the Atlantic and Pacific back to NZ. But life got in the way, thankfully I'm only 3 months away from becoming a full time live aboard so it's never to late. Thanks guys.

What an incredible story! Aways wondered what you were doing in the wilderness building a boat. Now we know. You were well into the project when I found your channel, but I binged watch every episode until I caught up. Been hooked ever since with Garrett’s craftsmanship and Ruth’s first mate’s savvy and willingness to pitch in. And a gorgeous smile to boot. Inspirational! Have a great new year and smooth sailing!

I have been following your journey is the start of "Rediviva", and can say I have honestly enjoyed each and every episode. It was very enlightening to here your life story to date. As much as losing that hard drive was devastating, it was a blessing in disguise, we got to here a remarkable love story, not only love of each other but of a fabulous life style. May your years on the water be long and most enjoyable. Take care of each other, be safe and sail forever.

I never knew y'all built the shed that built y'all's boat in. I just came in when y'all were building the frame of the boat and had some friends helping for a wee bit. Then if this old brain remembers right y'all did most of the work on your own. No matter I just know that I'm totally enjoyed following along y'all's journey and praying and trusting that God would continue to bless you kids as your dream built. And as for now I'm still praying the same way and that God will keep you kids safe.... And by the way I'm loving how long your hair is getting. It reminds me of back in days when I had my long hair dark thick and wavy . How the girls were so jealous of my beautiful hair. LOL. Then sadly the Army came along and shaved it all off. Never had much of any hair after I got out. Then I quickly lost what hair I had by 1980 I was totally bald. So all I got is the memories. I wish I has pics of my long hair but my mother refused to take any of me with long hair. LOL... Oh well with much love you kids be blessed in Jesus name... BBE..

Great story telling, I’m glad you made these episodes. I’m very much like Garret, in the need for projects, a love for wooden boats, and the need to build things. I also feel the need to build my own boat, but I don’t think I’m willing to commit 7-10 years building instead of sailing. Aloha, I hope to see you in Hawaii one day.

The stories are what got you to where you are now. And I for one love you two sailing hippies. That was the most amazing story. I don’t usually comment because I watch on tv but I have been faithfully watching since the beginning. I was always inspired but you two in so many ways. I started watching for the building but quickly was amazed by your relationship maybe because my marriage was ending. To support each others dreams like you have and to continue being a team is so inspirational. To decide to build instead of Mexico because you could see he wasn’t happy is so selfless and beautiful. Thank you so much for being you! Thank you for your videos- I think they help people more than you realize. Here’s to a lifetime of adventure and joy! If you ever get bored enough to end up on the east coast, I’m in Newfoundland with open arms haha.

I found your channel a couple of months ago and fell in love with you and Rediviva. I watched episodes as they came out and in the intro there was one line that captivated me. It was Ruth saying "and I won't need these boots anymore." So curiosity got the best of me and over the last couple of weeks I have been binge watching from episode 1. What an amazing job you two have done! Through the episodes going from excitement to boredom with some of the more tedious tasks. At times I wondered if you were going to give up...of course I knew you didn't. The highs and lows kept me intrigued and I couldn't wait to get home from work to binge a few more episodes. The build of Rediviva is an adventure on its own, but now you reap the rewards of all of your hard work and finally made it back to Mexico. I am envious of you both because you acknowledged your dream while you were so young and you went for it. I am 51 and have recently become interested in sailing and my dream is to cruise the world before I can't. If I ever get out there and see you guys along the way...I'm definitely coming on board for some tacos and beer. The good thing too is I just got caught up as you are arriving back in Mexico so the hard drive crash had minimal impact on me as I have been living in your past. Now on to your future. Fair winds and following seas! Cheers.

When I sailed in Hobart, Tasmania the yacht owner had a bag that we slung under the keel every time we attached to the mooring bowl. This would be tied up so it was just above the water level. He’d then add some solution which totally stopped algae growth and barnacles for up to 5-6 weeks. By the way take a look at this years Sydney to Hobart finish, totally insane finish as 2 100’ maxis ghost towards the finish. Hope you guys have a great 2024, I’ve loved watching you for a few years now and want to see you cross the Pacific :).

Traditional rigging presents a moving, noisy scarecrow type environment... modern boats are more bird friendly so they’ll prefer to roost there, which generally requires the use of decoy owls as deterrents.

I hate to say this, but that is what Sailing La Vagabonde has done so well, they have let us in to their lives, love them or hate them, they exposed who they are, and we enjoy that as voyeurs... which is basically what we all are.

Loved this little series of videos. Would love to here how you decided to and ended up starting a RUclips Channel.
About the bird poop thing... I was lucky enough to meet you guys while you were staying at Channel islands Harbor and you were gracious enough to give me and a couple of my Fairwind Yacht Club buddies a tour of Rediviva. There was an undeniably energy that radiated from both the boat and you. It was like there was some kind of synergy between you. I actually felt high from it. I have worked around some of the biggest stars in television and had never felt that feeling.
Back to the bird poop theory... I think this energy is like a forcefield of some kind and the birds feel it and don't dare to despoil Rediviva.
Thanks for producing these great videos.

Love the story. So when is Garrett going to get bored again ? Now Rediviva is almost done I sense the need for a bigger boat looming. 🙂
I am not a great lover of rehash "how we did it" videos as I have watched every video on every channel I subscribe to. Keep on sailing and enjoy her for many years. Garrett you can whittle wood if you get bored give Ruth some time to enjoy her sailing dream. ATB. Have a great New Year. regards from the UK

The answer is yes. Bottom paint, also known as antifouling paint, is designed to protect your boat’s hull from barnacle growth and other types of marine organisms. It is a specialized coating that helps repel marine life from attaching itself to your boat’s hull, thus preventing them from creating a home on it and causing potential damage.

Seems Everything happens for a reason and the loss of your Hardrive has been our Gain. We've watched you guys tenaciously work to complete Redadiva. From watching your Story, I'd say you two were blessed Providentially to build Two Incredibly Deep Lovable Personalities and to hone Timeless (Forgotten) skills and work etthics. The Relationship you two have together is so wonderful to see and yes Ruth, your tag line sums it up.... "You're coming too" . We are with you guys receiving so much from your sharing your lives with us.
Thank you for Blessing us with your videos.
May Blessing Richly Abound to you in all things Great and Small.. Fair Finds and Following Seas, Gary Larson Music

Really enjoyed the last 3 episodes. You guys are such a great team. I really hope you are always perfect for each other. There's another couple who's boat building and sailing life I follow... I don't believe they are as fortunate...
I have a Morcambe Bay Prawner. It's a 28ft on deck gaff cutter. If you ever make it to Scotland we should cruse together.
Love the idea of a thorough walk through, love the idea of a synopsis of the build.
Thanks and look forward to more of your adventures ❤

Glad to know im not the only whackjob whos seriously given thought to copper sheathing a wooden hull... You guys rock, and your story is an inspiration to sailors and amateur shipwrights everywhere! Happy new year!

I dove for artifacts in N. Florida as a kid and collected several specimens of copper sheathing that had been torn off on the rocks in the St. Marks River.

@@jackbelk8527 That's not surprising seeing as how there would have been a lot of naval vessels operating in that area in the 18th and 19th centuries. I believe the British started copper sheathing their ships first, then pretty much everyone else with a navy followed suit. It cut hull maintenance down, extended the life of the ships and also gave a significant increase in hull performance.
