I’m so impressed by these two. They are first and foremost so sweet to each other.
Rediviva is so ridiculously beautiful built.
On top of that it looks like she sails even better than she was design for. I mean small flaws her and there, but no way. She actually sail by her self if needed. And that is amazing!
    Good Job 👍
Big Luck to you all on your journey 🥰

Happy to see the upgrades going online, the safety they offer is indispensable.
    A few things:
    1. I didn’t see a waterproof boot to protect the connection to the antenna, any of ingress of salt water will render that useless.
    2. Did you apply any dielectric grease to the coax connections? It helps prevent corrosion.
    3. I didn’t see a stress relief below the antenna, that coax connector is not meant to support the weight of the cable, it is a must if your communications are to last any considerable amount of time, the weight of the cable and the movement of that cable moving at the whim of the wind will eventually break the wires inside the coax.

If you haven't done so, I strongly suggest water-proofing the coax connector where it screws onto the antenna base. I am not a sailor, but I have many years experience with VHF radios. Without waterproofing, it's almost certain that water will get into the coax and raise the SWR thus reducing the range of the radio and putting stress on the transmitter. Bon voyage!

Top tip: Use Por15 on your rusty metal parts. It's the best rust converter/ protectant. Just wipe dirt and grime off then brush Por15 on. Shortly after, red rust is gone, and it turns black. It not only colors it but it seals it with a hard coating to protect from corrosion and dings. Enjoy your southern voyage.

You never know when some autoimmune disorder may take your ability to work and play away from you. I only wish everyone could stay active and enjoy life their while lives long. But I am living proof that even if you take care of your self, things can and do go wrong some of the times. So, yes, I too live vicariously through channels like this. I totally enjoy watching this build from pouring the concrete ballast, and binging all that came before to catch up, then following along for the last many years to the present. I may miss a week here and there do to a doctor's appointment, and/or memory issues, but I usually watch a double feature the next week and I'm caught up again.

Mounting the radar that low in the back will give you a lot of “noice” in the pictures. An standing in front of it for longer periods will expose you for a lot of unhealthy electromagnetic radiation. Many boats mounts the radar high up in the main mast. Remember that it’s a tool for mainly looking forward. Many obstacles in front of it will reduce quality of the reception of the radar severely.

I think mounting the radar at the stern, where you have it, will drasticly reduce its range, I realise the main mast is cluttered at the peak, but how much space is above the gaff jaws, to the peak,
The higher the better for the radar, , the AIS/VHF antenna is in the spot I think the radar could have been placed
With the AIS/VHF , GOING TO THE SLIGHTLY

Before you leave the US, I think you need to find a marine supply store and purchase a saltwater marine ignition switch with a flip-up cover. I saw the episode where you installed the current switch and it looked like an 'El Cheapo' switch from an auto parts store. In that exposed position, it will definitely get splashed. Saltwater corrodes stuff like that with astonishing speed.

Never coil coax it will inhibit your signal. VHF is line of sight so the higher the antenna the better. I am so happy you have AIS now I can track your travels. Replacing the PL-259 connector is easy check the internet for instructions. Coiled coax becomes a balun that in some cases will completely kill any transmission.

On the coax connections outside the boat ( antenna ) you need coax self annealing tape so water wont get in. Those connections will fail over a short time. It will give you a high S.W.R., will damage your radio, and shorten the range. It was good to see you put in a good diameter coax, better for signal strength. Long runs of small coax will turn your 25 watt radio into a 5 watt output at the antenna.

Try if possible to avoid coiling any electrical cables in loops . Especially antenna coax cables .
Any looped cable effectively creates a local antenna that will create interference and reduce the effectively of your masthead antenna and radios. May also be worth running a seperate ground wire to the antenna mount and ensuring the radio has a really good earth / ground plate connection on the hull to seawater . Keep up the amazing work and bringing salty ocean vibes to our mountain home .

Love your channel!! Agree with the use of silicon at the connectors even in the interior. At 20:03 it appears that you have coax in a coil. This effectively builds an inductor and reduces your VSWR by adding inductance (think resistance) in your line. Try to cut to length leaving only enough to repair the connector and leave slack throughout the cable run without putting in a coil.

The further away the radar dome is from your body the less exposure you will receive. I would want it high as possible for that reason, plus the radar will be more effective with more height above ground. One concern with rear mounted dome would be all the rigging forward of it will cut some of its effectiveness.
