It's far better to orient them flat/horizontal when driving... like on top of the vehicle - or inside a plastic rooftop luggage carrier. That gives it equal chance to communicate no matter what direction you're travelling... and far less obstructions from being inside the car.
I have a friend that had the normal starlink but got rid of it as soon as he got fiber in his area. He said the fiber is much faster and isn’t affected by weather like starlink is. I think this perfect for people who can’t get quality local high speed internet.
I got rid of spectrum and all in with standard starlink. Speed test varies 200 to 500 mbsp .usually it stays around 300mbsp. Using external google routers have all wireless. I am very happy with no down time or slow down through rain.
My question for mr. Elon is why the missed opportunity? Could have built a device for the starlink to automatically move to get better signal kind of like what they do with solar panels. Either way I think if people have these, they can look into Arduino and learn how to build a device using a servo to automatically move the dish to a better position
Our area had 5 Megabit downloads for the longest time and working from home was not feasible. When I got starlink it was a godsend! There is high speed in the area now but haven’t made the switch over convenience of already having starlink lol. We will probably switch to fiber and just keep the starlink just in case
That was a great video!! you did all the tests I was wondering about with the Mini, all my questions were answered in this video, thanks for a thorough and complete video on the Starlink Mini. Not in a rush to get it, maybe spring, maybe it might go down a tad, surprised it didn't during this time being Christmas. Great review. I specifically like the 5G vs Starlink signal comparison while driving in the Cybertruck. It answered a lot of questions for mobile applications. Thank you.
For the total data consumption problem, I think it would be cheaper if someone paid a bit more for truly unlimited data and have more hotspot. For connectivity problems, having multiple carriers running on dual sim on a iPhone could help a lot, for example, Visible has unlimited data + unlimited hotspot.
Appreciate the vehicle in motion test! This would be great for road trips to remote places, national parks. Just finished a 15k mile trip all over the US in my model 3, the starlink mini would've been so convenient for working remotely without taking up much space. I just wish it wasn't $600 🥲

I don't know if they stopped as I don't have this problem in my M3P and Y. With that, the mini may be struggled with that. Impressive that it even works on the dashboard.

What a great video! I really enjoy when you make these types of videos :) can you do a Model X review? Of how it’s held up? Any issues it might’ve had? And what you like about it after owning for a while now !?
Kim, don’t mix up WiFi coverage with Starlink connectivity. Using the big antenna and Ethernet output, you could construct a very robust WiFi network delivering 80%+ of the Starlink speed everywhere in your house. Your speed measurement went down in back of your house due to poor WiFi connectivity, NOT Starlink connectivity.
not her fault. starlink themselves refer to our purchased unit as "your starlink". so that means "starlink" can be referred to the entire unit, including the wifi

River 3 is great, using it as a UPS for my work laptop & dual monitors, they draw about 100W, get about 2.5H of backup with it.. enough to setup the backup generator 👍
I find it largely amusing a ton of people ignore the Blue and Pink pings. Just looking at the SPEED number and yellow ping and calling it a day. But those Blue and PINK numbers mean a huge amount. You need to watch it while it runs. Because the end is just random. But in sense Lower Blue/Pink numbers = better consistent data flow and stabler connection = better for devices needing a stable data flow consistency. Higher = BAD. And here i found it nice that the mini crushed the 5G+ at 11:20 when they ran the speed test from phone to phone. Showing the Mini was around to less then 60 on both. Awhile blue for 5G+ was over 350!
Umm Starlink mini has a built in wifi router to connect to the dish...... The DISH is what gets effected by sky weather due to the fact it is trying to connect to the many orbital satalites floating around our planet. And when the SKY isn't clear. AKA thick clouds. It can hamper the performance of the beaming tech inside the DISH and Satalites data flow. Normally ground internet systems like your supposed Xfinity system uses a copper or fiber cable that is either running on power poles above ground, or underground safe from weather problems. Those normally run into a base broadcast station that again will run cabling either from underground or throughout above ground poles to so for places. UNLIKE starlinks dish systems.
Where I live, there is no conventional Internet available so I’ve had Starling for two years now I was one of the early people and I’ll love it. We are supposed to get fiber soon and so because of the storms, the Internet doesn’t work even with the big dish, the Internet doesn’t work in the in rain so we can’t wait for fiber, but if you don’t have any other alternative, Starlink works perfectly and it works for gaming streaming. I have no issues with anything. The latency is not what you typically think of when you thinkof satellites
Starlink is on the prohibited list because it cuts into their abusive revenue stream. The ship wants to sell you Internet at $10/hr. But the food is unlimited. Limit my food and give me free Internet !
That's cause they already use them on the boats themselves or other satalite service. That's like saying someone walks into a baseball game while everyone's on Wifi and plugs their laptop straight into the server router that's broadcasting to the field. You can see the annoyance it brings. Not to mention interlocking signal disruptions that it could also cause on the liners own dish systems connectin to satalites. Since boats do not have ability to use Mobile connections to base hubs on land. Their only means is using dish systems to satalites. So person bringing their own. might also cause problems with the network streams. And bandwidth since your device and their systems might link to the same satalite and hampen the data bandwidth.
good question...I'm guessing its non ionizing radiation and probably directly near the receiver and not something that has a long distance impact from the unit.
the starlink mini will be the very thing that gives starlink a lot of money. you're buying portability at a premium (which cost starlink nothing thanks to the inherent nature of their satellite network) while getting LESS quality (bandwidth) due to the very portability you're buying, which then means less cost for starlink to provide bandwidth per buyer
