Thank you John I enjoyed your starlink comparison. I have a standard dish and a mini. The standard dish is now fixed to our house and the mini we take in our motorhome. We recently did a 3000mile trip across Europe with the mini and it was flawless, most of the time we were getting speeds of 150-200 meg downloads, there is not much difference in the upload speeds of each dish. Bearing in mind the satellites are travelling at 17,000 mph I don't think whether you are travelling at 10mph or 70mph makes any difference, we found the mini dish worked just as well in motion as stationary. The main advantages of the mini is it's compact, lightweight, has a built in router, designed to run on 12v and uses little power all important considerations when kitting out a mh or camper.
Thanks once again John. Great video. This is a Public Service Broadcast 👌I bought the Version 3 this year for my van and it been faultless for conference calls so I am delighted. If the mini was as fast as the V3 I might be tempted as the convenience of the small size, no router and USB C is appealing but I cannot risk having speed issues when working.
Interesting comparison, quite a difference in download speeds - looks like you made a good choice. I’m seeing better down and upload on Mini at times, but not better than yours, but can vary quite a bit - slightly further north near Darlington but not sure if that makes much of a difference. All the best, David 👍
So the Gen 3 can do Roam it sounds. Can you use the Gen 3, with Roam (out and about with your vehicle), as well as switching the plan on and off when needed? If so, if the space/size isn't an issue, it seems like a good avenue. If space is an issue, and you are limited or don't want to mess with routers, with converter re: 240/12v etc, and don't need 3x the speed, the mini with the ability roam + stopping subscription when not in use, is a pretty good thing.
Leads to a question: Can the same plan/subscription, be used with both a Gen 3 and a Mini? E.g. you have the plan and at home you use the Gen 3 with the same plan, when you go camping basic stuff, you take the mini for the connection. So can use either of the hardware for the same plan, depending on your requirement that you decide? and sometimes when you travel, if you really needed the speed, and were happy with the router/240v or conversion and space of the Gen 3, you could use the Gen 3 on the roam scenario, with the same plan that the mini may be using? Same plan - alternating hardware?
Hi from Oz. Was the power consumption you showed for Gen3 including your router? In general we heared most complain in the USA about the impact on their power resource but I guess Gen3 is a bit better without the motor consuming power. We've got the mini with magnetic holder flat on the roof and speeds often upto 100mbps. Priceless in Oz where tower coverage is only near major freeways and populated areas. Also good wifi calling connection on your own 4/5G mobile number for medical appointments etc. Thanks for your review but we are glad we waited for the mini. AUD$80 for 50Gb per month roaming data here. Cheers
Great video! Has anybody figured out a work around the 2 month limit for using the device outside your registered country? I need it with work for up to 6 months outside the UK, but I don't want to come back. 😅
Hi John Alistair #rollingsouth_. Thinking of getting a star link mini when we revisit the US and Canada i’ve been on the star link website and it states that you only get two months roaming it talks about re-registering so can I buy one in Europe France, where I’m based and when I get to the US re-register it on an American address. ? have tried contacting starling but as you know this is a challenge. Thanks for your help. Great to see Mandys on the mend , and at least you’re heading for some sunshine…. apoapologies for any syntax spelling ,grammar mistakes….
I heard some using them on Biz jets as it’s cheaper than the sats systems installed and charging a fortune. Not sure how well they are working though , Window elements can be an issue for them. Hmm, Wonder if it would work under a rotor disc in flight.
We live in Ireland, and our average upload speed is anywhere between 20-30Mbps and pretty much never drops below 20Mbos. I've no idea why he've got such a poor result with it on your video. Download speed is 120Mbps on average and is fast enough for most tasks unless you need to download some huge files often. We ran our Mini 24/7, and we mounted it inside our Motorhome. You can see how it's mounted on a few of our recent videos (it's just behind me).

thanks, what mount did you use on your travels, flat or finely calibrated?

Took me around 4-5 hours to download a 120gb game on the mini.
great vlog on travels thanks lee

Hi, the power my gen3 uses is just the dish power, my 3rd party router uses 5 watts.
Okay, that's a very good number only 5W and no inverter loss. Your setup makes perfect sense 👍
Hi john will the starlink work in Europe without having to change any settings thanks Andy
The short answer is yes, but I’ve got a full review of Starlink already here on my channel. This video is just comparing the latest Starlink products.

Jon where did he get the suction cup mount from mate
You also have router powe W, which mimi doesn’t?
No I don’t, as I show in the video. My router is 3rd party and the Starlink app doesn’t see the power it uses.

Looks to me like horses for courses, you choose what you want and pay accordingly. I wish other companies had this option.
Great review ,but not for poor pensioners, hehe, all the best when it comes for Crimbo and Nerdy.
Mini speed is insane, don't need the standard at all,I mean currently I work with 4mbs so imagine 50 then can complain,no ways
