Any alterations he does to the original sample is simply pitch matching on the turn table and eq before he records the sample. Another cool trick you can do to repitch samples which idk if he does but you play the record in 45 rpm instead of 33. Keep up the great vids!
On the class 9th was teaching he used Dilla as an example for what you are saying, but I found that Nujabes does this a lot too, thus why I mentioned I've talked about it in a Nujabes video. But yeah changing the rhythm can be awesome but I still find it crazy difficult, because working with a chop that has a melody attached to it can be tricky Great comment :)

Also, putting the restrictions of 4 or 8 bars when re-sequencing it, I feel, is also very fundamental. I think anyone who wants to break into sampling should watch this video, because I’ve probably spent several months picking this stuff up from listening to other producers. When a producer “follows” these rules, they have a chance at flipping something into a timeless beat. Very good video

I literally have been diving into samples and sampling trying to get myself better at ti and what you are giving us are GEMS, GEMS all over the place for real. Brother, thank you so much. Sampling was an enigma to me when I first started producing. I loved it but I couldn't understand how they did what they did. The channel is just me trying to do a type of content I wish I had available to me when I first started. The hardwork is crazy, and the growth is very inconsistent, so words like yours are really motivating. Happy new year!!

Sorry if this is a noob question but does 9th just leave the orignal drums that are in the sample and just play over them? Or does he mix them out somehow
I struggled with this question for a long time. If the drums in the song are fire and pop out well enough then why not just leave it as is? Leaving them plus some tape emulation or distortion should be enough to give then more grit and punch. But sometimes the kick and snare on the sample are weak, so you can layer with ur own drums
@@Narokx alright thanks man i struggle with that too but this reveals some clarity. Sometimes i edit the attack and you can almost completely remove the kick or snare
Messing with the attack is clever too, beause you can replace the punch, and also helpa with layering. Another major key is drum sample selection. Some trap drums on boombap is almost guaranteed ass lol
Dilla Da 🐐🐐 Lowkey scrolling through a million samples to find what you like is the most boring part of production. It is so important to have a folder of sounds you like to reduce the search time.
Chop on the kick and snare, chop between the kick and the snare, sample the intro, sample the outro. Bend the audio, stretch the audio. Take just small pieces from different sections along the track and play it in 16 levels, make a new melody. Pitch just some samples and combine with other non piched ones. Sample 2 or 4 or more different tracks and make 1 beat. The techniques are endless and everybody does what they feel inspired or uninspired to do. Thats the beauty.
