Wow 41 likes this is the best channel. Coldwar you inspired me with ur fury cold start. My brother has a 77 fury. Watch my 1990 miata cold start with 210k on my channel. More cold starts cheers Dave from Michigan.
There was a Nash Metropolitan in my neighbor’s yard for years. It literally disintegrated into the ground. One day I saw two guys throwing the engine into a bed of a pickup, the rest of the car is still there. It’s one big pile of crusty rust. I used to work with a fellow mechanic at a car dealership that used to say “we’re not barbarians ya know!” No lie! I was meant to find this channel!! Happy New Year to all the agents and Stella, & the new puppy. The Nash has found a good home!
That little Nash is adorable Imagine some 50’s department store manager’s wife(read Mad Men era)receiving it as a Christmas present 🎁 White driving gloves 🧤 would be a must, eh?😏
Hey, I sold this guy that generator on his 57 Pontiac a number of years ago. I converted my 57 Pontiac to power steering, so I no longer need the standard generator. That was cool seeing his 57 Pontiac and seeing my old generator. Cheers to all you guys.
I loved that engine start at the end. For a while I was wondering what that sound was. Carburetors have so much more character than fuel injection startups that just light off instantly every time.
A Metro, can't get much cooler than that. Obviously a future episode of it's own. That six volt start reminded me of a '50 Merc I had, a great car that always ran and only broke down once, when you would start it the battery always wore down right to the point where you thought it was going to die and then it would fire up. No matter the time of year or weather it would take it's time and push your patience to the breaking point. Great video, Bonne Annee to you and yours.
Awesome cold start!! you can hear the compression building, building, building and fire! Thanks for posting, good luck with the nash/AMC/Austin, the trunk would make the best cooler for drinks ever!
Happy new year to you Scott, Stella, Francene and friends!! What a great neighbor Tom is. I like his home made cab on his tractor. It's great to see another car in the stable and I sure look forward to seeing the magic you pull off on this one. Probably more exciting than 6 volt cold starting magic LOL!!
Ahhh, the good ol` `59 Nash Metr ! Not necessarily a required addition to the collection, but a quirky acquisition, for spite`s sake. I do believe it needs to be placed next to the Nash Ambassador Custom, though. BTW - for some reason, I was really diggin` Tom`s lil` JD Tractor.
wow..the size of the heater motor! classy doors and the huge back window in this 55 horsepower tire burner..lol.. a friend of mine still owns one, and I remember driving and riding in it...brings back some hilarious memories.
OMG you not only got it home at the last of your video you got it to run. A '59 Nash Metropolitan parked for who knows how many years and you will get it all sorted out and running in no time i'm sure. Hey Happy New Year to You and the whole gang and of course Stella and Francine.
You guy's have finally reached a new , Uhhh pinnacle in automotive preservation, a Nash Metropolitan. Nash/AMC always brought us Uhhh collectables like the Metro and the Gremlin. God I miss them!
Happy new year as well! The Nash door design brings back some memories: In the late Seventies we discovered a 1952 Nash Statesman in a garden that had been parked for many years. The owner was a sick old lady. The floorpanels were quite crusty and the car was extremely bathtub like, the hidden wheels were very special as well: I admired the door design and the apealing ugliness of the car. It was so different from eveything other car design I knew by then. This car was unique in Switerland. In fact I have never seen a second Statesman ever.Being a teen with limited car knowledge and no place to store it and no budget I could not buy the car. A few years later a neighbour called me, that the lady had passed away and if I still had interest in the car. Sometimes I still regrett that I did not get the car when I had the chance. Since then the late fourties and early fifties Nashs got my interest.
I know a few guys who have put MG Midget front spindles I'll these for the front disc brakes, and the rear end so it's not screaming at 60. Best to all and stay WARM!
Happy New Year! Years ago there was guy from Cleveland, Neil Zurcher, who built a tv show around his little Nash called "One tank trips". Back in the 1970's I was running my '50 Chevy on a set of Fisk tires. Fisk made a very good tire. Thanks for sparking some great memories.
Five bonus points if you remember Fisk's print and billboard ads with a drawing of a toddler in pyjamas yawning and the caption read "Time to re-tire". :-) Come to think of it, when visiting my granny, as the car approached Springfield, there was this pungent smell - must have been the tire factory.
I did not know that the Metropolitan had the safety oil fitted in the rear axle. The handling of this particular model was legendary but not in a good way , When the weather got cold the little woman would not be able to leave the house as the safety oil froze in the rear axle preventing any travel until the temperature rose and the roads were again safe for her driving skills. This was a secondary safety back up as the first was that the door locks froze so access to the vehicle was denied. Of course some objected to this so would not lock the doors, or they hoped someone might steal it. Seriously that looks a pretty good keeper with a few more bad storage years left in it before going beyond the point of not worth return... Happy New Year to you and all agents
I missed this episode...I had no idea you got a _METRO!_ I bloody love those things (by the way, the engine will last forever...it's a BMC B-Series, I personally own four of those sweet, torquey little units.)
So right you are. Had a neighbor and that turquoise/white Metro was a second car for the Misses and yes a 2 car family was a Big Deal for most, spot on with that. Nice start to the New Year with Cold War Motors. Carr;y on comrades
Funny cars those Nashs. Every time I see your green DD Frazer I do a "Sigh" because I really would like to own this car.... My most important wish for 2018: Health to all of you! Have a good time.
An auspicious start to the New Year, and the My Classic Tire franchise, with the screen debut of the fabulous Fisk Airborne Deluxe. Keep them coming....
Man o Man, I love the 261 cu. in inline six. I just put one from BC into my 53 Chev. 1/2 ton pick up. Fenton headers with an Offenhauser twin carb intake. It is a very nice motor. That 57 will be a great car.
Wow, we have really gotten some good Classic Tires lately! That Metropolitan looks good enough to make a daily driver out of -- keep the rust, get it to drive and stop and drive the wheels off of it! And.......the Frazer cold start was cool! :-)
Happy New Year. That snow can help when you need to slide a car about! Look forward to seeing more of the Metro, and the old Austin B series coming back to life.
Happy New year from 35 degree tropical heat here in Queensland Australia. Loverly.way to start the year good luck to you all. Love the 6v Frasier porn at the end. Best wishes.
I'd be careful about throwing my junk in the back of that Metro...:D The '61 National Parks sticker on that Pontiac would make the car a keeper for sure. Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year from dirt road Pennsylvania! Beep Beep! I remember the song about the Metropolitan from long ago. We had one as a field car. Oh if we knew then what we know now...one tires of saying that as one learns just how often one was lacking in the brain department. Always enjoy your videos!
Wow, you do love a challenge. First a Citroen Maserati, now an English built Nash, with Lucas electrics an Austin Engine and Smith's gauges. What could possible go wrong?!! Happy New Year!!
Haha nothing at all, right? Well, in fairness, i have no intention of fixing up the Nash; they're not really worth enough to justify the massive amount of resto this one would need... Cheers!
That Metro looks like it came from Michigan (heart of the rust belt, ask me how I know) anything that old is gone from the windows down. We don't crush 'em, they implode! Another save to put on the score card. 6/29/20
Happy New Year to you and the agents and Stella and Francine. A new coldwarmotors video always requires immediate viewing. Keeping up the good work and thanks for the entertainment.
Thanks for the videos from the past year! Looking forward to what you have for us in 2018. You and your agents gave me allot of laughs after a hard days work. Happy new year!
your growing auto-garden is approaching epic status! always room for another Nash, right? lets hope you come across a Desoto someday. ya gotta love salty Tom yelling "what are you doing" at the young guy heehee. i wonder how that 60 Fury is looking these days? happy new years Cold War Motors !
Great video, as always. I've seen many antique tires but never have come across a real Fisk. The company was from Springfield Massachusetts which is about an hour north of me. The Pontiac was great too!
Happy New Year from northern Norway :) I do enjoy these videos, and I believe I have seen them all, at least once :) any coldwarmotors youtube video release day, is a great day :)
happy new year!! look forward to the will it start video! amazing cars that you find Scott! A new year and a new row of vintage cars for the 2018 row of classics!
a great car - lucky you guys, everything good is up nort' :) yep, a great metropolitan w/ austin engine from the UK. I used to have a 1953 Canadian 210 2 door sedan!
Being that I am in the market for new tires, I have been leaning on My Classic Tire heavily for guidance, and the show never lets me down. A new set of Fisks are on the horizon.
I think that beastie should have the same drive train as my first car a 1958 Morris Minor. I also think that it is the only car that should get the moniker "Cute" because it is. Keep up the good.
Seats have been redone using chevy pattern covers. The original pontiac seat had an asymetrical pattern. I have had a bunch of canadian made 57' Pontiacs. Those Metropolitans used a little tiny diff and only a little water in them would lock them up solid when it froze.
And a big Happy New Year to you, Scott! Thanks for the very entertaining video. Always something going on at Cold War Motors. I'd never have thought that freezing water in the diff would've caused your cars rear end to seize up, but that's what it was. Tom
The driveline was all Austin A-40 Somerset with a late 1950s upgrade to 1500 with the Austin A-50 & A-55 1500 cc block. Transmission was 3-speed unlike the BMC 4-cylinder cars which had 4-speeds. Remainder of the driveline was Austin. The body design and unibody were designed in the US by Nash Motors and built to their specs by BMC subsidiary Pressed Steel Limited, which built all BMC's regular bodies. There were few basic changes from 1954 till the end of production with 1962 models. We saw very few Metropolitans here in the East, at all, even though Austins in particular were popular, along with Morris Minors.
Back in the 1980s when the Pate Swap Meet was still going strong SW of Fort Worth, I spotted a unique Metro which had been put together from two damaged Metros. 1/2 was from a Metro damaged in front and 1/2 was from a Metro convertible damaged in the rear. The unit that was damaged in front had the engine compartment entirely removed. The convertible had the rear trunk area removed behind the seats. The two were joined together and the front became the open driver's area while the rear section enclosed became the VIP limo section. It was a dual-cowl phaeton! I never found out what methods were used to connect the two together. Perhaps two steel box frame pieces were employed? It appeared for several years at the Pate Swap meets and disappeared, having been sold I believe. You never know what you are going to find at swap meets!
My mechanic collects Metros. He tried to buy a local one years ago, but they wouldn't sell. Now it's a shell with a tree growing through the middle of it.
At 14:40 all I could think of was this old Cheech and Chong record Los Cochinos, where Cheech is begging the the car to start, and ends swearing in spanish Pedro skit I think. oddly that album cover has a green car too
That might well be the fastest that Metropolitan has ever moved. That bath tub body was very heavy and the 1500cc BMC B-series engine wasn't exactly a power house with a mighty 50hp so they were decidedly leisurely. However, it is a B-series so there's a lot that can be done with them, there is a guy here in the UK who races one in classic saloon car racing. If I remember rightly his was in way worse condition than this one looks when he started with it (it was a UK car...) Good luck with this one, a Happy New Year to you and the girls and I hope you're surviving the sub-arctic weather OK...
I know these cars were built in the UK, But were they sold there? The Metro was not the worst car they put these engines in, That honor goes to the truly awful Austin/Morris Marina. A car that had a front suspension not strong enough to go in a golf cart.
"Who the fuck's driving this shit?" You really have the BEST crew!
This is the best car channel on youtube
Second only to Regular Car Reviews.
David Johnsoñ you know it
Second to none. Happy new year CWM.
I agree!! All other channels take a back seat to this one!!

Great candidate for Will it run! Can't wait to get an update on this one! Happy New Year.
Nice way to cold start the New Year with this beautiful Nash Metropolitan!
Red and white looks great on it!
Awesome cold start!! you can hear the compression building, building, building and fire! Thanks for posting, good luck with the nash/AMC/Austin, the trunk would make the best cooler for drinks ever!
You need an Edsel on the property now! Yes, an Edsel. An Edsel is needed. Haha I'm sure there are few kicking around up there.
Steve Coan '58, '59 or '60?
I prefer the '60 over the '58. And I don't like the '59 at all.
In one video they found a Canadian built prototype Edsel. Sadly, it was way gone.
Happy new year to you Scott, Stella, Francene and friends!! What a great neighbor Tom is. I like his home made cab on his tractor. Just wanna say thanks for all the great videos you put out I really enjoy watching them ,Michael
These videos always bring a smile to face. Thanks for making and uploading them. Have a happy New Year, and try to stay warm. *:-)*
All the Best for 2018 Scott , Stella, Francine and all the secret Agents from Australia. Looking forward to a great year of awesome projects ! :)

Happy New Year, good to see that ol' yard of yours is still collecting. Happy hunting from Florida'79 2018.
Sometimes the ice is your friend, sometimes it's your foe. Froze the rearend, but you were able to skid it easily enough.
Stella runs the show! She might not say much but her charisma and breeding make her a natural leader.

Great video thanks for sharing....This old Metro brings back some old memories. Some not so good.
You guys are the best, have a happy and safe New year
Love your adventures! I don't think I can make it through the day without watching one of your videos.

I saw that Metropolitan overtake a big '58 Caddy in Second Gear! Beep Beep, his horn went Beep, Beep , Beep!!!! 😎
That was a real score Scot, you'll have a ball driving that around. Happy New Year from Connecticut, love your videos.
Happy New Year to the gang and, of course, Stella and Francine.
Happy New Year! I've always thought those Nash Metropolitan's were pretty cool. Good score!

Happy 2018. I'm sorry Stella was not excited about the Metro. They are fun cars. I once had a 1960, sorry I sold it.

Ice is good for something...I am from North Dakota , lived there for 55 years.
Thanks for making these videos, I have used some of your tricks already to move our 1955 Plymouth that is in need of some TLC.
Man o Man, I love the 261 cu. in inline six. I just put one from BC into my 53 Chev. 1/2 ton pick up. Fenton headers with an Offenhauser twin carb intake. It is a very nice motor. That 57 will be a great car.

Thanks from me and Stella! Cheers...
Happy New Year. That snow can help when you need to slide a car about! Look forward to seeing more of the Metro, and the old Austin B series coming back to life.
Cool little Nash ! "My' year !! lol. It looks like someone drove that Nash over a shopping cart !.. bent metal underneath front end..lol....easy fix !
A lovely way to begin the new year! Thanks fer takin' us along...
Happy New year from 35 degree tropical heat here in Queensland Australia. Loverly.way to start the year good luck to you all. Love the 6v Frasier porn at the end. Best wishes.
Tom, you are always a blessing to hear if not see on one of these videos, total riot. Cheers
This Nash is the perfect complement to some of the massive Detroit iron in your yard with the 300 lb tail fins!
At last, a proper car, built by our British craftsmen. I’m surprised Mercedes never asked Austin to build them a small car in the German style...
Always a treat to watch your videos! Happy New Year!
I'd be careful about throwing my junk in the back of that Metro...:D
The '61 National Parks sticker on that Pontiac would make the car a keeper for sure.
Cheers!
You're absolutely right. A good clean Met. that runs can be had for about 15K American.
That Metro looks like it came from Michigan (heart of the rust belt, ask me how I know) anything that old is gone from the windows down. We don't crush 'em, they implode!
Another save to put on the score card. 6/29/20
Happy New Year to you and ALL the Agents!1oo1.... To Stella and Francine. How about a treat for the New Year.
Scott, thanks for posting this.... Happy New Years, looking forward too more vids from CWM
Happy New Year to all you hosers up north. Keep ‘em rolling!
Happy New Year to you and the agents and Stella and Francine. A new coldwarmotors video always requires immediate viewing. Keeping up the good work and thanks for the entertainment.
Well all right...an SM and now a Metropolitan...can't wait to see these two.

Great video, as always. I've seen many antique tires but never have come across a real Fisk. The company was from Springfield Massachusetts which is about an hour north of me. The Pontiac was great too!
Happy New Year from northern Norway :) I do enjoy these videos, and I believe I have seen them all, at least once :) any coldwarmotors youtube video release day, is a great day :)

a great car - lucky you guys, everything good is up nort' :) yep, a great metropolitan w/ austin engine from the UK. I used to have a 1953 Canadian 210 2 door sedan!
Perfect addition to the collection - Happy New Year!
Being that I am in the market for new tires, I have been leaning on My Classic Tire heavily for guidance, and the show never lets me down. A new set of Fisks are on the horizon.
Lube up the time machine.
I think that beastie should have the same drive train as my first car a 1958 Morris Minor. I also think that it is the only car that should get the moniker "Cute" because it is. Keep up the good.
Happy new year from tennessee, my canadian brethren!
My aunt who lived in NYC had one, drove it to Florida every winter!
That's a good looking nash, my father is a rambler man. Those cars are alot of fun.
Seats have been redone using chevy pattern covers. The original pontiac seat had an asymetrical pattern. I have had a bunch of canadian made 57' Pontiacs. Those Metropolitans used a little tiny diff and only a little water in them would lock them up solid when it froze.
Good looking Nash, Happy New Year from Texas !
Looking forward to more videos 2018 from you guys, stay warm.
Nash Metropolitian used a BMC 1500 B series like the Morris Oxford, later MGB 1800 was a B series.
You should restore that Metropolitan as well...
Saw a few of theese in Los Angeles in 1982...my last time period in The USA.
I'd totally get that thing running and driving. It's oddball enough to be cool.
Happy New Year!
Thank you for the Bonus cold start/Blair Witch Project :D
And a big Happy New Year to you, Scott! Thanks for the very entertaining video. Always something going on at Cold War Motors. I'd never have thought that freezing water in the diff would've caused your cars rear end to seize up, but that's what it was.
Tom

Also Happy New Year to you and all your agents.,
I like those little Nash cars. If it were mine I would fix it and use it as a driver. WILL IT RUN!
Happy New Year! Love the cold start at the end! I hope we see a "will it run on the Nash"
Back in the 1980s when the Pate Swap Meet was still going strong SW of Fort Worth, I spotted a unique Metro which had been put together from two damaged Metros. 1/2 was from a Metro damaged in front and 1/2 was from a Metro convertible damaged in the rear. HAPPY NEW YEAR ,THANKS for all the great videos
At, 13:27 it looks like Stella was pulling the car, lol
This will definitely be an interesting will it run.
Loving it! To the other viewers let those ads play so we can see more videos!
Cheers
glad you guys got one of these, I'd love one of those cute lil Metros. This'll help me see if they're a nightmare or not.
missed this one. bless tom for pitching in w/his tractor. (was that donald sutherland helping push the metro into second slot?!)
Thank you for getting a not so bad Metro. With your talent , it won't be long off. aeee.
the engine in that was a detuned MGTF, 1500cc. some guy races one of these in the 24 hour Lemons races.
At 14:40 all I could think of was this old Cheech and Chong record Los Cochinos, where Cheech is begging the the car to start, and ends swearing in spanish Pedro skit I think. oddly that album cover has a green car too

I know these cars were built in the UK, But were they sold there? The Metro was not the worst car they put these engines in, That honor goes to the truly awful Austin/Morris Marina. A car that had a front suspension not strong enough to go in a golf cart.
