Deep Blue Sea is a 1999 American science fiction horror film[5] directed by Renny Harlin and starring Saffron Burrows, Thomas Jane, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, and LL Cool J. It is the first film of the film series by the same name. Set in an isolated underwater facility, the film follows a team of scientists and their research on mako sharks to help fight Alzheimer's disease. The situation plunges into chaos when multiple genetically engineered sharks go on a rampage and flood the facility.

Fun fact: the license plate that Carter took from the tiger shark's mouth is the same one that Hooper extracted during the autopsy scene in JAWS

I saw this Movie at the Movie Theater (when it came out back in 1999), I was in the Theater with about 30 other people and when the part came when the shark jumped out of the water and got Samuel L. Jackson (mid-speech), literally everyone in the Theater (including myself) jumped.

Carter was the guy sort of in charge and the most in shape with best training so I think he was always behind bc the leader makes sure his team is accounted for. Theres always someone who guards the rear. That's tactical thinking

Great reaction. I remember my Dad taking me to see this in the theater when I was 11. It surprised me out how many of the characters died in this film. The biggest shock was Samuel L. Jackson's death. Everybody in the theater was tripped out lol. One of the best audience reactions I've ever been a part of.

As someone has already commented on here the number plate is similar to the one Matt Hopper discovers in the bellh of the shark during the autopsy scene in Jaws.
That number plate in Jaws is thought to be Spielberg's reference to the Bond movie Live and Let Die, not just because of the obvious "007" number but also the name "Louisiana" which is where a large part of Live and Die was filmed and set.
Additionally, either side of that is the numbers "72" and "73" which are the years Live and Let Die was produced and released.
Finally, at the top of the number plate is the wording "Sportsmen's Paradise," which can be seen on a sign for Louisiana in the Bond movie, although that actually says "Sportsman's Paradise.
It is well known that Spielberg always wanted to direct a Bond movie.

There is also "Leviathan" (1989 underwater horror film) starring Peter Weller. And "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" (1954 scifi adventure film) starring Kirk Douglas. And "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" (1961 scifi film). But "The Abyss" is certainly the best underwater action film ever made. Not surprisingly since it was directed by James Cameron who knows a little about about filming in water given his past "Piranha II" (1982) experience.

  • @blakewalker84120

You keep mentioning that this was about man vs. nature.
    But it's not really nature.
So far, in all reported shark attacks, the Mako shark has been reported 10 times with one fatalaty.
    Ever.
    This movie isn't about nature.
    The humans messed with nature.
They gave them hormones to make them bigger than they should be and massively smarter than any fish ever, anywhere.
These artificially modified Makos can't be called "nature" anymore because they've been Crispered into a monster species.
This movie is Man vs. Monster.
I want that to be perfectly clear:
This is not a shark movie.
    It's a monster movie.
    Let me repeat that.
    This is a MONSTER movie.
In real life, sharks don't do anything you saw in this movie.
I'd swim and dive with real Makos and maybe even pet one if it swam close enough, but there's almost no chance that one would ever get that close to a human.

    I already forgot it.
    Why?
I couldn't see it - you blurred it out completely.
OK, I get it, you have to blur it out completely for RUclips policy reasons.
But at least say something in words like "That is something you are never going to forget. The shark bit her in half and her guts came out." Or whatever it was.
Or, maybe in the moment you were shocked speechless, which seems to be the case.
So in post editing, when you're applying that blur, also put writing on the screen to let us know some clue about whatever it is we are never going to forget.

It seems like the blur/comment portion of my post was for your editors. That is something I see in other reactions, a bit of text on the screen describing what cannot be showed.
That's pretty rare. Maybe it's a pain to do it, but some reactors do, especially when it seems the blurred bits and the reactor's words don't go well together.
