The PSP truly felt like the future when it first came out. From the first party games to lesser known niche JPN games not to mention wifi and the ability to watch videos and play music. For 2004-2007ish it truly felt like a one of a kind machine.
That PSP unboxing is nostalgic. I was 10 at the time. My dad bought it for me, just after launch. He couldn't wait until Christmas, he gave it to me early.
I got it for christmas the year it came out and oh man, was I excited!! My cousin and I took turns playing Daxter and it was incredible. Video games can create such great memories.
Same, we were poor but I somehow got a PSP. I watched Spiderman 2 so many times that summer. And Wipeout Pure was awesome, esp when I found out about the glitch that let you use the web browser 😉
I bought a PS Vita at the beginning of the year from a girl I work with. She said it was having stick drift. Cleaned the sticks with rubbing alcohol and canned air and it works with no issues. Best part is I only paid $15 for it.
Ah PSP, the console that made me a Sony fan after growing up with only Nintendo hardware. Crisis Core and Dissidia were just too tempting to me at the time, I had to have them. The PSP was also where I beat FF7 for the first time, still blew my mind all those years later from it's release.
I still have both of them, but the PSP still is my favorite handheld! Played it for so many hours that I had an extra battery to just replace and continue playing. It got even better after I was able to install homebrew and could play many emulators.
God I love my PSP, had the 1000 and 3000 models with the 3000 model still currently using. It was my gateway to many great PSP games but it was also the system that got me into PS1 games. There was something magical about playing PS1 games on a handheld. It’s how I played Chrono Cross for the first time.
PSP was a fantastic handheld console.. I loved the untold legends game, Syphon filter, Ghost Rider, Resistance, God of War chains of Olympus etc. plenty of top notch gems on it.
I loved the UMDs for the PSP....I thought (& still do) they were so futuristic, and just a cool form factor for physical media. I also, loved mini disk as well. My 2 favorite forms of physical media still to this day.
God the memories. I adored my PSP, and I still love it to this day. I got one for my 8th birthday in 2005, along with a Lego Star Wars set. I got the media pack version that came with the Spider-Man 2 UMD movie, having only seen the GBA before this, this thing blew my mind. The backlit screen was the best part to me.
A little fun fact about the ps vita intro video: If you go into the welcome park app and after finishing each tutorial once, the stickfigure will be on the left of the screen. If you then click on it, it will drag down another bubble which allows you to watch the intro again
I have a PSP 3000. While I enjoy the slimmer size, brighter/more colorful screen, increased RAM and battery life, and redesigned buttons, it feels so fragile. I’ve heard that’s one of the few things the 1000 has over the others is how premium and sturdy it feels; that and the UMD tray using a button to pop out instead of just being pulled open by hand. I kinda wish there was a 1000 model that preserved the size/sturdiness but otherwise had all the other improvements of the 3000. That would be the ultimate PSP in my opinion.
The PSP was the first console I bought on launch day. It came out the day after my 13th birthday and I had a ton of target gift cards that I used to pay for it, and NFL Street 2 Unleashed. I was blown away with all the accessories that came in the value pack. Everything felt extremely high quality down to the leather wrist lanyard and neoprene sleeve. I distinctly remember being fascinated by the clear shoulder buttons and the clear “floating” face buttons that we wouldn’t see again until the dualsense. Such an amazing product experience at the time and thank you Ryan for the care you take with these retro unboxings.
The way you did this video really took me back! I still have pictures my parents took from the Christmas when I got my first PSP as a kid, with a huge grin on my face like it was the best day of my life. Back then, I think it was! My friends didn't believe me when I told them at school after winter break was over lol. Lots of great memories with that system, and I've still got it too! Lumines 2 was one of my favorites, which I'm pretty sure I got the next Christmas. Finally around Covid time I got around to playing Lumines 1, which I really enjoyed 100%ing.
Still have my psp 1000 model i still play it to this day great games like pursuit force, dragonball, naruto, jak & daxter, kill zone liberation, tekken, nfs carbon
I have my psp at work with me just now, just gave it a clean but need to replace the front shell or the complete shell. Just ordered Daxter and Ridge Racer.
Nice! It’s the “Walkman of the Future” and PlayStation’s biggest gaffe ever. ☝🏻 I love the PSP and own four in various colors, complete and in box. I also own two launch model US Vitas complete and in box. 🔥
It’s not happening. The business model of having to support a separate handheld and home console with a different games library is untenable. Even Nintendo, the handheld king, unified their home and handheld consoles into hybrid for this reason.
I love the Vita so much I have four!. My original black European 1000 and 2000 and a Japanese 1000 Cosmic red and a Japanese 1000 Glacier white. I rotate them so I play them all equally!
PSP. I was 13, and I remember I went on vacation to Paris. Randomly went into a game store looking for figures and saw a PSP from Japan. They got it 1 year before Euroope. I nearly lost my mind. I bought it and some Japanese mech game. I had to survive for 2 weeks with literally money, but I had the PSP. Before this, I only HEATD there. Still have both of mine. It was an event when I went to Best Buy on launch day and bought myself a PSP with my saved up allowance money. I bought it with Untold Legends.

I’m looking for a 2000 model Star Wars series now, that was my first psp I ever owned
man, really surprised to see the vita powering on and even holding a charge, the thing about buying brand-new old stock hardware (with a battery inside) is that the battery is just often dead out of the box, so it's better to buy a used handheld/controller because of this.
As I posted in another video that opened one of these psps a few days ago... I have a psp 1000 that came with a bundle from back then. Man I remember getting the PS Vita super bundle with like 11 games for 99€ back in the day. I literally couldn't believe my luck. Got Freedom Wars as an extra game and loved it, and later on fell in love with Person 4 Golden. The Vita is such a great platform, too bad it died too early.

Now I never got a Sony PSVita so I can't speak so much on that but from what I see and have heard I think Sony would make a amazing handheld gaming console If they ever went hard on handheld gaming again. 4:57 PSP just hits differently than modern handheld gaming consoles. Cool video. ^_^
I got my psp in 2005 I lost it in my moms house I’ve been looking for it since 2011 but the psp was insane at the time we had game boys but the psp had console quality games like midnight club 3 and gta lcs and you could browse the internet with WiFi it felt magical
Had the Vita been named PSP2, it would've sold wwaayy better. i recalled so many people at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc mistaking it for a revision of the original PSP instead of the next gen PSP.
Just bought a used like new psp from amazon. Gonna get some good games for the psp. I didn't play that many games for it. Always good to see Mystic take us through some much gaming goodness! 😁
I love these videos I did purchase a brand new, PS Vita sapphire blue edition from Japan, and I have it mounted on my wall. I absolutely love it, but the face buttons are too tiny, and my hands are too big to use it sadly, and I have small hands so I don’t know how anyone use the PS Vita.
